Agreed, I love picking people off from across the map with it. Most people can't aim it very well and thus get owned from across the map never knowing what happened. It is a very hard gun to use, but when used right it is amazing.

I remember some early screenshots with what looked like medics and I dared to hope for some class based action - resistance vs combine. If they'd borrowed a bit from RTCW, added the gravity gun - could even have dog escort missions, ET stylee. Maybe one day, it could be awesome ...

still dont see why every game needs DM, we've had over 10yrs of DM change it up a little besides just adding a new weapon/vehicle

Probably a little late for this but,

Not everyone plays for conquest. It's sometimes fun to try for late game victories like Diplomatic or Space Race...

There is more than one way to win a game of Civ. Conquest tends to get boring, fast.

I don't know what i'm missing, but Conquest usually takes longer for me, most of my games I won before 2000, including Diplomatic and Space Race.

Well if you want to kill enemies quicker you need to get better! Also..your only emptying clips because your using the assault rifle long range...remember all those other useless guns? Well here is where they come into play. Pick up a BR, 3 shots take off the shields and 1 shot to the head kills. It helps if your team also has this gun as you can take off someones shields, they retreat, your team finishes them off. You can't expect to dominate without getting better at the game. The game is very balanced and as you get better, you can kill enemies without emptying clips.

HL series was designed as a single player game.
Halo series was designed as a single player game.

So it's fair call to bash the Halo SP and get away with it.

Are you saying that its a bad design to give players a limited amount of ammo and that everyone should be able to shoot infinite amounts of ammo at enemies because it's stupid to have to worry about actually placing shots? I missed when we began discussing Civ4.
Anyway, yeah, diplomatic victory is typically impossible except online. Everyone except the two candidates always abstains. Space Race is one of the funnest, since usually even the bots are up to your level, and it makes it really tense. Plus, you can see and customize your space ship now! Freakin' awesome. Anyone ever try putting 18 civs onto a duel-sized flatlands map? XD

I've always defined a computer game as the experience of a player interacting with a system - what we call 'the game mechanics' are what differentiates the format from the film or the novel, and are what defines any game. A lot of game design is ensuring that this system of mechanics works to stimulate and test the player without frustrating him - and, in great games, the system must surprise and amaze him too.

Sometimes I encounter a piece of system design which strikes me as really intelligent; how in Timesplitters 2 the player takes less and less damage for each hit as their health bar goes down - the more damage they take, the tougher they get - meaning low health doesn't instantly spell doom in any encounter, and last ditch efforts are feasible; or how in Team Fortress 2 the complete lack of grenades makes gameplay faster, more dynamic and more (literally) direct, while also serving to differentiate the classes and encourage teamwork.

Halo is full of such clever design, from the way alien grenades glow conspicuously and leave fiery trails, making them hard to miss, through the way the sniper rifle leaves a trail, meaning snipers have to relocate and snipees have a chance, to the inspired shield dynamic which maintains the constant danger of death but always gives the player a chance to claw back victory from the jaws of defeat, and makes sure combat ebbs and flows between strength and weakness. The limited weapon limit provokes informed decision-making about what to take, what to leave. One-click grenades are sublime. Not all of this is original but all of it is effective in creating a system that's extremely fun to interface with. With high production values and an attractive, unified aesthetic, almost every facet of Halo betrays the attention that has been paid to it.

If your going to call a game garbage you need a reason. It's simple, you make a claim the burden of proof is on you, not me. You are arguing with logical fallacies. Limiting ammo in a harder game mod only makes sense because it's a harder mode, but when you think about it for a second in game perspective it doesn't. Surely game devs can think of otherways to make the game more challenging that don't rely on enemy HP boosts and reducing ammo quantities. Ignore that part for a second.

As for my park comment. I said I finished Halo 1 on legendary and I thought it was a piece of piss even with the disturbing lack of ammunition, but many others have done the same thing. Playing on legendary means jack shit and does not automagically make the game better.

Actually they don't limit your ammo at all on harder difficulties. You still get the same amount, just you use more of it. Also, they did more than up the enemies HP. The enemies are more accurate and fight smarter as well. Maybe not in H1, but in H3 they do.

If I remember correctly they actually didn't release a lot of information about the game, single player or multiplayer. I do remember the ads they had were cinematic trailers, and thats about it. They really only pushed that phrase and it worked well. I still am waiting for a developer quote saying that SP was the main focus of Halo.
