Harpoon VS. Big Ant Lion = One shot kill.

I carried the harpoon into Nova Prospekt, to the part where you fight that first Mama Ant Lion in the cafeteria type place, and took it out in one shot. Not sure if this has been posted about before, but I thought it was pretty sweet.

Also, trying to use the Harpoon to knock down gun turrets will cause the game to instantly crash. I tried this on three seperate occasions and it crashed each time.

There is a part before Nova Prospekt, when you're working your way up the mountain, and there is a small campfire, where two zombies are laying, and you have to knock the support beams out from under that doohicky thing so you can climb up. There are two harpoons right there, in front of the zombies.
 
Yeah my game crashed wen i shot a turrent with a spear, i guess its a proper bug then. We knew that the Ant Lion Guard died from one shot of this thing. You can also pick it up with the gravity gun after. Tis tres weird.

How the hell do you normally kill her?. I shot the one back in the sand dunes with the shotgun and the exploding barrels at her and that was easy. Is the one at the prision shower room harder to kill?

Playing on hard difficulty. Regardless, killing it in 2 seconds on any difficulty is fast.

Unless i use the harpoon, i find it takes quite a lot of gunfire to bring the Myrmidont down, so how exactly do you kill it in 2 seconds
 
Crossbow, it's a crossbow, is that soooo hard?

I'd say red hot glowing rod shooter thingie.

Either way, neither ant lion guard is very difficult to take down with regular firepower and physgun aided items, even on hard difficulty. The sidestepping weakness is pretty big.
 
You can take down the antlion guard there quickly if you use your powerful weaponry (RPG, secondary fire of pulse rifle or SMG) together with explosive barrels. Works well.
 
Also, if you jump up on the fence, but don't jump down, the antlion will spawn, then you can go back through the corridor and kill it from above and it won't hurt you.
 
were can I find this Harpoon? I forgot where it was located...

I found they were too easy. :| I just walked in circles and emptied everything at them.
 
yeah this has been posted before...
They said then that the game got bugged and the vortigaunt wouldnt come and make bugbait if you killed it w/ harpoon in one shot.

maybe they fixed that.

No dude, its called, Harpoon. I'm not talking about the crossbow.

Also, I meant taking it down in 2 seconds with the harpoon is fast.

EDIT: Can't believe I replied to that.

Yeah, and right before it. There's two of them lying near a broken canoe on the shore, near the first hut you see after Laslow gets killed.

Poor, poor Laslow. One of gaming history's greats.
 
I liked the long battle between you and the ant lion guard. You had to just hit it with every thing you had. Another nice thing about the antlion guard was that you sorta fear meeting up with it but you are very capable to kill it. To have it be a 2 second battle really doesn't sound like it would be that much fun
 
I just let it hit the wall and it would be temporarily stunned. Allowing me to use grenades on her... The antlion gaurd is tough however and occasionly I would be sent flying.

Watch father Grigori fight the antlion gaurds, it is quite amusing.
 
yes
you can use your g gun to pick up harpoons and kill the mama in 1 shot, you can also pick up the ants with your g-gun :)
 
Poor Laslow, he was the finest mind of his generation...

I have an idea on how to save him this time though!

turn off AI and spawn a wall of Gmen around him and then the antlions can't kill him :D
 
or just ent_fire antlion_spawn disable, somewhere the lines of that.
 
The harpoon i believe uses the same thing(cant think of the word) which happens when a strider stamps on something with its leg impaling it. Spawn an Ant Lion Guard (which is its proper name please :rolleyes:) under strider and it will kill it with one stamp, just like the harpoon. Same thing, just portable :LOL: I still cant work out why the manipulator can pick up the ragdolls though, weird bug.

I had that same problem. I don't know why Valve gives you a spear if you are not supposed to do these things...

I'm guessing once you impale the antlions it flags them for some physics thing and so you can use the manipulator on it

Well it's just a bug, doesn't mean valve put it there by accident or anything
 
yes u impaled one with the spear, the spear disapeared and i was able to pick up that antlion with the g gun :)
