Help Get Portal 2 Released Early - OVERCLOCK HAS BEGUN, Release Incoming!

I find it amusing that Amnesia is the least played. Its one of the better games in the Potato Sack but putting in the required amount of hours to fill that bar would probably raise the worlds average stress levels by several percent.

I've tried to beat Justine 2 times and both times I'm left shaking and exhausted. The One death/No saves feature adds a lot to the experience.

I'm inclined to believe The Gaming Masters portal page is fake, or badly implemented. Yesterday it said the game would be released Monday 22:00 GMT+1, but today its Monday 23:20

I better not find the bastard responsible for designing the auxiliary power systems for GlaDOS in game. I will break his god damn toes. Potatoes.

Actually the more people own a game the longer it takes to fill the bar for that game. Killing Floor has had more players than the "focus" game for much of the event and it's one of the least filled. Amnesia is really low because it's more popular than the others.

Ah, well there goes the hilarity of my joke, but that makes sense.

For some reason I envisioned this taking a day or two off the total time... not the handful of hours it will. at best. I guess as it stands I'd actually get to play it at release instead of after work the next day so... whatever.

Yeah, it was shortened enough that it now is being released on my day off!

This actually works beautifully for me - I don't have class on Tuesday but I have to work, so if the game just comes out a few hours earlier that morning I'll have more time to play before I have to go somewhere.

-goes back to Audiosurf-

In the same light (or dark) as Amnesia, Super Meat Boy also is moving very slowly despite being one of the more popular games in the bundle. I figure it's because prolonged play will result in destroyed controllers and anger therapy.

I think these are both valid points. I have both Amnesia and Super Meat boy, and have stayed away from them (in favor of Defense Grid) because they stress me out so much.

At this rate, when computations complete, the G-Man better show up and bust through my computer screen, give me a hug, and tell me that he and GlaDOS are my biological parents.

So I guess all hope of playin' this shit tonight is lost by now. My half an hour of Audiosurf yesterday was all for nothing!

The funniest thing about all this is, people have already played and beaten the game. There are streams of it running RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT. The ending's spoiled, easter eggs have been found. People who pirated the damn thing have been playing since last week.

Meanwhile, people who pre-ordered and paid for their copies are sitting around with their thumbs up their asses going, "COME ON GUYS CONCENTRATE ON BIT.TRIP BEAT, WE'LL GET THE GAME A FEW HOURS EARLY!"

Good fucking game Valve, you chunderheads.

I wasn't aware it had leaked (consoles?), but yeah I kind of feel they blew the ARG with this 'everyone play games till they are sick of them!!' BS. Also a lot of the Potato challenges are all Ninja Gaiden insanely hard to achieve. I keep trying the Audiosurf one, but I keep hitting around 178K, it's stupidly difficult....

Has anyone proved conclusively that the potatoes do anything? Or are they just another ground-born carrotsque vegetable, on a stick shoved straight into our intestines, and the only way we know to go is to spin around in arbitrary circles. I love my potato, but I can never have it. God damn potatoes.

Consoles. I think it was on Thursday I started seeing links for it. It was definitely out by Friday. That means pirates have been able to play the damn thing for nearly FOUR FUCKING DAYS, while everyone else has to wait, and/or play some bullshit "alternate reality game" by grinding up time on unrelated indie games. Valve screwed the pooch on this one, yet there are still people buying into it and defending this shit.

oh well i wasnt going to buy it anyway and now that ive seen the ending and read up on all the plot twists, i can stop thinking about this game on move on to waiting the next HL episode.

and im not naturally going to say anything about the game but yea, it can all be found pretty easily

People could download it but there wasn't a crack for it. I assume that changed recently, but it hasn't been playable for that long.

I don't know when the crack came out. I know when I saw the download links and tried to stay far away from that shit. That was definitely Thursday, because I was still hoping that “4/19/2011_7AM=4/15/2011_9AM” meant the game might be released early and I wouldn't have to worry about spoilers.

I don't know how long the game's been in a playable state, but I know it's been long enough for people to complete the game and post screenshots and big fucking banner-sized pictures in black-on-white impact font that

nah, totally had you

and that

lol nope, no ending here

and also

I'm not even going to tell you how long the SP campaign is

And Valve's apparently been banning accounts for spoiling things but they don't do the obvious shit and just release the damn game now. They can do it. There's a button. Just press the goddamn button. The longer that button isn't pressed the longer pirates have won.

I immediately thought of the tentacles when I saw that button. I don't think there will be a pillar of righteous fire this time...

I had my doubts about this idea from the start, and I still cling to them as the final hours of the weekend slip by. In one word: disappointing. Come on, Valve, don't you have enough money to swim in from your Mann Co. store?

Just my two cents.

If I think an idea is good, that idea stays good even if pirates do their dirty job. Pirated games are everywhere, that's not a big news.

I thought it was a pretty cool idea too, three days ago. Kind of amazed that people are still defending the ARG at this point.

I don't think anything could sum up this experience better than that scene. It's kind of sad that I still fall for stuff like this even after having watched that movie every Christmas.

Well, at least almost all of this will be forgotten after the game comes out, and we'll go back to loving Valve for a couple years until they make another hugely disappointing PR faux pas that starts the whole cycle again.

Huge Letdown

Not so long ago, I looked at Valve as one of my favorite companies on the planet. But I find myself loosing faith in them more and more.

This ARG thing has been so extraordinarily disappointing, and I'm sick of the small minority of people defending it. "Oh, how can you complain about getting the game a few hours early?" Well, I'll tell you how. I can complain about getting the game a few hours early because Valve led everyone to believe that the game would be coming much earlier than that. They release the message "4/19/2011_7AM=4/15/2011_9AM." I mean what other way is there to interpret that. People put weeks of hard work into this ARG thinking there was something significant to be obtained, when clearly that was never going to be the case. They could have very easily managed expectations, but they almost ensured people would be disappointed.

Half Life has been another huge letdown. I can't understand why they've refused to talk about it after almost four years. I mean could you imagine J.K. Rowling publishing the second-to-last Harry Potter book and then just going silent for four years. I can understand that they might not want to commit to a release date or give away details, but that doesn't mean they need to be silent. They are creating enormous expectations by acting this way. I think a lot of people are expecting them to suddenly announce that the next Half-Life game is coming out tomorrow and that it's a full game running on a brand new engine. But I fear that's probably way too much to ask of a company that's been doing a lot of underwhelming as of late.

I liked the connection with good indie games, as you know if you read my previous posts. Just one thing is bothering me: releasing the game three, two or one day early would have been a nice gesture. But a few hours?? Come on.

They probably expected more support and less of a shitstorm of negativity and set the numbers too optimistically :p

OK , all in all they messed up , but Valve never mentioned that Portal2 will come up 1 or 2 days earlier . That was our interpretation . Sooo I guess Valve will say "Hey , we kept our promise. WTF are u bi***ing about?"

yeah seriously, these indie developers are probably doing better off which means better games to play when after your done playing Portal 2 and also someone has food to put on their table now.

:arms folded:

They could have very easily supported the indie developers while also not pissing everyone off. If they had intended to release the game a few hours early, they should not have implied otherwise with things like "4/19/2011_7AM=4/15/2011_9AM" and "two hours to next Tuesday."
