HL2:Episode 2, Portal @ gamespot

Why does alyx have to be with us? She just glitches and slows you down.

Whore.

Then you could just leave her somewhere in the middle of the forest leaving her to survive by herself but then again if she dies then game over and you will probably need her for certain scripted places but when in a large battle in the middle of the forest you could drive by yourself and leave Alyx in a safe place.

I like alyx. It's just I preffer to play without her nagging me.

Now that i notice the whole HEV suit is starting to look different with the ammo icon being changed and with the two different energy sources with one for sprinting and the other for your flashlight it looks like in ep2 your going to get a new version of the HEV suit but how can you when your goal is to get the Combine package to the silo where I suspect is the best place for an upgrade.
Unless there's some scientist out in the forest that gives you a new HEV suit close to the beginning of the game I think that the upgrade is just a new addition to ep2 and won't be explained in ep2.

Wow that is some spoiler I can't believe I actually had to go to read that. -_-

Verdammt! Er geht nicht! :hmph:

Oh well. The scenery looks great, from the whole 30 seconds of gameplay that I've seen.

It's gone :)
Just want to test something:

I love how the gamespot player won't work in my firefox and IE anymore...

I literally looked away when he mentionned the cable puzzle.

Thats kinda lame showing how to complete a puzzle in a preview.

anybody saw that cake sign in the portal video ?
"the cake is a lie" ?

I'm not sure what kind of rocket scientist you need to be to solve a wire puzzle. :p

Skip ahead and you will find you can watch some of it without problem.

I hear that they pumped up the facial animations and facial graphics. Very nice.
I've always thought they were pretty realistic, guess not enough for Valve. :p

Well what it does is when I want to see a video the player just shows up with a white background no loading, no nothing. I've installed the newest flash 9 player and still no go...

Saw it live just fine. Low-res, of course, and those damned military recruitment ads... why can't you disable them if you're not even eligible, let alone seeking such things?

For those who can't see it, here's my summary: Puzzle solving spoiler, Alyx is smarter, Hunters can kill you, car is nice, very pretty outdoor environments, that make Highway 17 look like a desert.

It is actually simply explained by that being the simplified Xbox 360 HUD. The PC one will be the one you know and love. Note also that the reticule is different and much less accurate because of the gamepad controls, theres no cross of dots in the middle of the reticule, it's just 2 thicker curves on the sides instead of pixel thin ones, and two spikes going into the middle instead of the precise dots. The PC will have the regular HUD and cross hair, quickinfo included.

I guess it will turn up on Youtube eventually. Youtube wouldn't screw us around like this...

Anyway, some of the bits I did see (quite a lot) did seem more like random spoilars than a proper preview. Most of what Lombardi said I already knew; but there was no reason for them to spoil the whole radio transmitter thing :hmph:
Did anyone else notice those icons that appeared when he got into the car, though? One I think had some green symbol on it, though I couldn't read it due to low res. That's what should be in a preview, something to get people speculating, without revealing to much about what actually happens...

Hunters just look better every time I see them. I kind of prefered the old pulse rifle weapon to these weird exploding darts, though.

were'nt they hints about how to drive the car using the x360 pad?

What is it that the Sniper says in the Team Fortress preview? Sounded a bit like "God Save the Queen!", which would seem to suggest he's English.

The Hunters' darts remind me of jellyfish tentacles and nematocysts.

Wrong.

Remember when Alyx said "we've really gotta talk to doctor Kleiner about getting a new battery for that flashlight" Well it's gonna happen aswell as getting one or two new features.

I just think it is a shame that there has hardly been any coverage for the orange box

Known for a while. 1 2 3

edit - oh, and the one just to the left of it I think corresponds to something out of the aperturescience.com thing - there was a mention somewhere of "eye trauma resulting from the use of emergency eye-wash stations". Neat tie-in there. :D

great :D

Can anyone host this to YouTube? Because that Gamespot streaming really sucks alot.

Wrong.

Have you played the Xbox 1 version of Half Life 2? It has practically the same HUD as this. So then you're saying that in the Orange Box with HL2, EP1 and EP2, that the HUD will magically switch from the old one to the new one after Episode 1? I will bet you anything that this is console only and that the HUD will be the same in all three games for PC, and that on Xbox 360 you will get this "NEW" suit the second you put it on in Kleiner's office in Half Life 2.

I know what I'm talking about, you're completely speculating about a suit upgrade and telling me I'm wrong.

It would make for horrible story continuity. All of the sudden, Gordon's HEV HUD gets upgraded, just after surviving a train crash in the middle of nowhere. Sure thing.

You're talking about the extra crosshair thingie made for the xbox.

I'm talking about the fact that the flashlight no longers uses AUX power in episode two.

Two different things.
