Munro posted a topic about this a few minutes ago, and promptly deleted it.
Seems like a fine idea to me.

yeah I saw his post, but /me hates central, they are all ignorant and flame for no reason

I meant from a content stand point, I dont know any of the forumites there. Not like we haven't had to deal with those sort of people before. :farmer:

Poll added. Moved to relevant forum.

:(

you can tell they are all little kiddies by looking at their "post your specs" thread. All MX440's or 400's. Not a bunch of hardcore gamers /me thinks.

I love this site...I come to this site for all the NEW info on HL2!

I mean valve come to this forum what is better then that!! lol.

This forum has great great people who all know what they are talking about. Also two of the people in this forum went to Valve to talk to Gabe! Again what is better then that!!! LOL.

One other last thing...has to be said...

CHRIS D...I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR SIG! IT IS GREAT!! LOVE IT TO BITS LOL

This site is to big, it'd just swallow them up and spit them out. I say go for it.

ok, lets go for it, but let's give em their own forums so we dont have to listen to their insane crap-chatter

The whole thing would probably merge.

The poll makes no sense, can you change the question to something like 'would you like to merge with hl2c?'.

hmmm...I think we should have all voted for "I dont know enough" cause we dont. I dont know anything either then the useless crap-chatter of central. We need more info and a list of the changes.
Chris can you ask Munro?

We don't really have any information to give right now. All we're looking for really is what you think of becoming a larger community and being part of a much larger site being able to provide a great deal more content and features for you.

Also we want you guys to understand that the experience you can have whether it be the features or the content that will be supplied will be far greater than without the merger

Erm, I know nothing about how this would work...

Would it mean that we loose the name of the site?
Or the layout and asthetics? lol

I would prefere it to remain HL2.net.
Its almost a common name in the gaming community now. Changeing it would be a bad idea in my opinion. I voted I don't know because I want to know more.

Personally I like it as we are, I'm not sure what has inspired the reasoning behind this idea beyond possibly host financing, but I think it would be a mistake. Sites develop their own voices, through the interactions of their staff and userbase overtime. HL2.net has a particular voice, as does HLcentral. I'm really not sure if those voices are fully sympatico, in which case one generally gets pushed aside and a gradual or mass exodus of one sites users takes place.

Beyond the obvious, do we have a great deal in common with the HL2central community?

We are all fans of the same game, Half life 2. Dont you want the best for your site?

If we merge there will be more changes than many will realise.. The fans currently have a choice, one site or another, depending what they prefer.. If the two merge then what choice do you the fans have then? You can't go make your own site, how would it compete with something so big, your only real choice would be hl2world and that site is bound to die off soon anyway. You'd simply be left with one site, one set of rules, no variation. You get banned from that one site and your stuck, where you gonna go then, there wont be any other sites around.

You the fans will suffer from a merger, whatever your told it will be you that suffer. Many of you hate that Microsoft control what you use. A single large HL2 site will be just as bad.. the two identities will be lost and you'll either have to make do with it or do without.. Atleast now you have a choice, if you don't like the rules of one, you can go to the other. You'll lose that if we merge.

I do recall that there are too many HL2 sites to say there are only 2. Its not like Target and Walmart are merging here, it is 2 sites that benefit each other from the merge. But mostly you the community benefits from the possibility of a merger.

This whole thing is being executed very poorly.

Already, after about 4 hours of this being a possibility, half the members of each staff no hardly anything about it, the management themselves don't know enough and most members and moderators are hating the idea.

Sort it out and present us with some sort of organised plan. ffs

lol. go for it guys! this HL2 site is the best and HLcentral is GR8!!

Merge them both and you can make alot of HL2 fans get excited and come to this forum alot more like in september!

I gotta agree with fenric completely. Variety is the spice of life... N I don't want those goobs here.

P.S. on a completely unrelated note, my eye has been very itchy all day.. I just found a mirror, n there were 3 eye lashes in it! thats gotta be some sort of record.

Just change the person-tense to fit in with me being a lowly part of the public, and thats what i would say :)

Once again, good words from the F-man ;)

My views have been expressed in more detail in our staff forum and on irc but here's the public version :D

I can see a few advantages but not many. Without knowing details "great things in the works doesnt mean much to me"

Ignoring any fiscal implications lets just consider both sites for a second. Unless we abandon one completely I genuinely see no problem in having both sites as they stand. Sure a more ... no wrong word. A closer professional partnership .. where we can support each other sure.

But as can be seen from the poll on either forum a lot of users use this one for a reason and a lot use hl2central for a reason. Both have their merits and I think would possibly be diluted by a merger ( Munro feel free to correct me by answering my staff post :p )

Apart from anything else as was said up there ^ "we don't know enough"

Now this referance may pass some over but to it's a case of somebody likes coke so they drinkcoke . Somebody likes say irn-bru or pepsi as opposed to coke. They like the flavour of one better.

But by no means does that mean either one superior .. simply different .... and I see no problem in that at all.

:E

its true.. no matter the reasons for merging be they good intentions or bad.. the users will ultimately suffer.. the excuse of better content is defunct, if both sites remain separate you'll still get more choice regarding content, you'll have a choice where to get it from and not forced to use the one place. Each site would have various quality content in different area's. YOU get to choose where to go, its not taken away from you, nobody is forcing you to go to one place.. Merge and thats gone.

Two separate schools teach kids better than merging them into one and the individual suffering in favor of the collective.

It just puts all our eggs into one basket, and we all know the story about that dont we :) Imagine if the worst happened and the merged site fell (it happens) thats it, gone, all of it, never to be seen again.

To elaborate, my good friend Chewcky here came into #halflife2 last night and threatened to permanantly ban me when he gets made master when, presumably, when we merge. This isn't the first time I've had a problem with him, and more than 3 staff members are with me on this. Correct me if i'm wrong, but we have had some problems with hl2central in the past too. I urge you all to vote no. We will put in double the effort into creating content, and we have a large enough user base as it is. Motives must be questioned here too.

Oh, and...

[00:57] <Chewcky> consider you ass fired when the merger happens
[00:57] <Chewcky> got it?

Wouldnt want that to happen would you? cmon :x

(@onions) the staff do actually count here
(Chewcky) to 8

(Chewcky) and oninions
(Chewcky) i would stop calling yourself staff, mod is a better name
(Chewcky) because it is your job
(Chewcky) moderator
(Chewcky) staff = site staff
(@onions) and i would stop calling yourself Chewcky, ****wit is a better name
(Murray_H) lol
(@souleh) which makes him a member of staff.
(Murray_H) just as a matter of interest, who suggested the merger?
(Chewcky) mun
(Chewcky) and me
(@onions) munro. for some crazy reason he thinks it could be a good idea
(Chewcky) as just a what if
(Chewcky) then it developed
(Murray_H) well i think fenric sums it up perfectly
(Chewcky) because munro goes beyond personal views
(Chewcky) unlike you onions
(Chewcky) no he doesnt
(Chewcky) if there were only 2 sites
(Chewcky) then yeah he would
(Chewcky) but there are dozens
(Chewcky) thats why mergers often happen in real life
(Chewcky) IGN and Gamespy
(Chewcky) aol and time warner
(Chewcky) ameritech and sbc

(00:57:43) (@onions) [00:57] <Chewcky> consider you ass fired when the merger happens
(00:57:43) (@onions) [00:57] <Chewcky> got it?

Don't have the slightest idea who this guy is, but he's obviously a total wanker, and handing him access to yer site is the intarwebnet of giving a loaded shotgun to an enraged ex and daring her to shoot you.

Hi all btw :p

How grown up of him :(

lemmie guess, he'll say he was joking? :)

I also urge you to dispose of this illogical post. This will not change that much with the merger, the forums will remain in the exact same state as they are now with only added members from our forums. We will however be providing site content that will be truly better than what hl2.net can offer, hence the merger and no onions, i believe you are currently all talk right now because you fear to lose your job, as do many of the other 'staff'. Believe me i dont want ot cause any trouble but your comments are out of hand, please be professional.

I could say the same. Personally I don't see why we would merge with such a scheming excuse for a person.

"We will however be providing site content that will be truly better than what hl2.net can offer" now does that sound patronising to anyone else? I think you should just pack your bags.

This will not become a flaming thread, we arent going anywhere, deal with it.

Chewcky, did you just say "be professional"? I do recall that you threatened to fire onion. Why dont you go back to your 10 year old friends at noobcentral? Im boycotting hl2.net if this idiot gets his way.

So, Onions, you must be really concerned about "losing your job" moderating forums and occasionally providing for a hardcore (in a very backwater sense) community site. Wanna come do some work for OwP when you get "fired"? How much are they "paying" you, exactly?

Get a grip Chewcky, it's all for fun and for free. Stop taking yourself so seriously.
