I don't know what to say about this thread. I don't feel I can quite formulate how I feel about you guys. It's mostly positive. And I know I'll go to America at some point in my life - I might even study there - and when I do I hope I will be able to road trip across the east coast, if not the rest of the enormous goddamn country.

I asked Antipoop if he wanted to see A Silver Mt. Zion in London but he did not come.

Yeah I've been here over 5 years now, and I can't remember spending more than a week not checking this site. That's quite a commitment, if only I could get off my lazy ass and hunt Evo down in Caerdydd.

I think I'm going to give it a shot, although some people tell me that nobody does just an MA in the US. And I don't want to be there for a full seven years or whatever it is for a PhD...
 
PhD is usually 3 or4 years, bra. At least, for real subjects like Proper Science. You're soooo dumb for not knowing that you big dumby!

No, MA isn't required to do a PhD in real subjects as long as you get a 2-1 or 1st. Also MA in real subjects is generally just 1 year.

I looked it up and you're right - in the UK, at least. But in the USA a PhD can take up to eight years, and often earns you a master's degree 'in passing'. So that makes sense.

Imaginary subjects like painting or learning dead languages are too popular.

If we had a meet on the East Coast, NYC might not be the best place for it... super expensive and where the hell would we stay?

I think we should consider a huge week-long east coast HL2.net camping trip somewhere in the Appalachians, maybe western NC or VA, or kentucky.

Cheap as hell and you guys can all experience the wonder of Ennui + grill/campfire

Anyway, I'd definitely be up for it. However, I can see a HL2.net battle royal more likely if we all get in the same place. I don't think everyone's internet ego will be able to cope in one place. Hahaha
