I was wondering if anyone happened to pick up Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz or Red Steel? Also, could you give some impressions and let me know if they are worth it. I'm really interested in monkey ball, and also may want to rent Red Steel.

My response is one of the following:

a) Huh. That really sucks, I hope it was just a rare, faulty wrist strap.

b) That's what you get for flailing the controller like a monkey in a knife fight and figuring you don't need to keep a grip on the controller during a [edit: bowling match].

Though I don't pretend to know the exact circumstances, I only read the first post.

edit 2: Or sweaty hands. WTF. Maybe wipe your hands off?

For people curious about availability, I saw 3 systems at the EB Games in San Francisco, Union Square.

For the people who have played Wii Sports/Games, are the motions "with you" or do certain movements trigger actions in the game?

Most of the games are fairly accurate in your actual movements. The baseball bat is 1:1 dead on movement as long as you are holding the remote the way you are supposed to. Golf is pretty accurate but sometimes you have to recenter the club back to the center or it acts weird. Tennis is very accurate I found towards real life tennis swings, it takes some getting used to though. Bowling is almost perfect, may take some time to get the timing down on the spin of the ball though. Boxing is probably the least accurate, mainly because people just jab as fast as possible and it can't recognize everything.

I went to EB this evening and played a truck racing game on the Wii for about 5 minutes. I did not like what I saw. I was not impressed with the controller either. I haven't played an FPS on the Wii yet so I'll withhold judgment of the controller until that happens.

Yeah in the manual it says be gentle. If you go gentle the game actually becomes 10x more repsonsive. It becomes pretty good then. I lost once in here at about 570. It came down to a tie where neither of us actually knocked the other out. so the judges went and put her before me!! Even though I took her down more than she took me.
After that I beat another guy to bring myself back to her and let my friend play. Yeah my friend gets his ass kicked, but no KO. He gets chosen by the judge!! I was pissed.

The best thing about boxing is that after a round or two you start to feel like your really doing something. I love that feeling when you just start exercising. Funnest boxing game ever and it's a mini game!!

I picked up Tennis and dominated right away. All of my friends couldn't get the hang of it. I have yet to loose a match in Tennis!! The most the comp ever got on me was 30 and that was once most of the time I would loose the first serve and then win the rest.

I'd have to say Bowling is the most accurate. If you naturally have a right curve in your throw irl, it will show up in-game.

And that TV thing: ROFL.

I just had a kickass moment in Zelda.

I had gone past the door to the fishing pond before but for certain reasons I couldn't stop and go in. I didn't note my location well enough and I was hunting around the Lake Hylia area (probably about as big as OOT's Hyrule Field) for it again. It was night so I couldn't see all that well in the distance, so I spot an observation tower, climb to the top. Just as I get to the top, the sun rises. There's a beautiful dawn effect on everything in the area and everything just looks amazing. I just stood on that platform for like a minute just looking at the landscape.

Ok, now I gotta go find the fishing place. The rod you start with it a joke, you can't even cast with it so hopefully I can buy the castable one when I find that pond again.

I have come to the conclusion that the Wiimote is the best type of controller for a zelda game. Zelda was never quite suited for aiming with a joystick, but it was also not suited for mouse and keyboard controls.

The remote is a happy hybrid, allowing easy movement with the analog stick and pixel-perfect aiming with the wiimote.

Yeah, there's a part (don't worry, hardly a spoiler) where you have to fire an arrow like 300+ yards at a wooden pole. You can barely see the thing, yet I hit it with my first arrow with the Wiimote. I can't imagine how many shots it would've taken with a silly analog stick.

Amish, what are the towns and villages like? And the weather and environments/areas? How long does it take for it to go night to day, etc? Sorry for all the questions, but these tiny parts of any Zelda games were what I really liked the most.

Noooooooo. I have just heard that there is no Tingle in TP. Please someone tell me this isn't so. ;(

*explodes in rage*

I f***ing loved Tingle. So many people hated him, but I thought he was nice :(

How much does teh Wii cost? (By itself)

While I can't judge how long it takes for time to pass, so far the smaller towns are like you'd expect in a Zelda. The people are pretty static or are in patrol mode kinda.

Hyrule Castle Town on the other hand is pretty large and feels a lot more like a living breathing city. I went to a lookout area at night talking to various people that were selling things. I could oversee the town square from there. The sun rose at that time and I decided to wait. Nobody was really in the square. Then a few people started to filter in, then more, then I notice some people sitting down eating (I assume), some kids run into the square, running around and playing. After a few minutes of watching the square was pretty damn full, guards keeping a lookout, people talking, people running errands, carrying goods back and forth, and even a line of guards on patrol.

It's pretty cool to watch the town come to life.

Day/night is like you'd expect, only prettier dusks/dawns. I haven't seen it snow or anything yet (I bet there's a specific area where it might) but it does rain occasionally and I have seen some cloudy days.

Oh, btw...just over 16 hours in...JUST got the Master Sword :p

My brother went over to a friends place and had a blast with the Wii. He isn't a core gamer but likes to play some games here and there. They played Wii sports and they are really big into bowling so that is the Wii game that they played the most and then Tennis. He said the controls were spot on. The exact some tendencies that both of them have in bowling happened in the game. They played Zelda a bit as well. He seemed pretty excited about it which I didn't expect. I think he is going to pick up a Wii as well. I think he wants to pick up the Marvel game and a few GameCube games with controller for it.

Can someone take out one of their Wii game covers and scan it at 300dpi for me? As straight as possible.

:D :D :D :D

That just sounds AWESOME. I cannot wait. Of course, I'm going to love everything else about the game (I hope!) but the towns and people just top it off for me. Clock Town was so awesome.

So the Wiimote is indeed awesome and better than a normal controller? Also, is the sound that comes out of the wiimote speaker annoying?

(might have been answered, but I can't be bothered looking)

The Wiimote control definitely kicks ass and is better than standard control. The Wiimote speaker sound got a little annoying since it defaults a bit loud, but I turned the volume down and I like it.
