You registered today to say THAT? Stupid moron. They should disable registration today to shut up the idiots who come just to rant today and won't ever return.

Fool them? Fool them? What kind of genius do you think you are? Do you want to to tell you every time they discover a new bug? They told us as soon as it was:

a) clear that they would not make ship date (or come close -- a week's delay wouldn't have required an announcement a month ago)

b) determined exactly WHAT they COULD tell us. They didn't want to change the release date to "to be determined"

Consider this - if Vavle had wanted to hide something from us, wouldn't have have wanted to hide the poor performance of nVidia cards instead of going up against a huge hardware company and making their fans so worried? It would have made FAR more sense to just let the customers be screwed over by sub-standard hardware and lower image quality to achieve acceptable frame rates. No - instead they told the world.

When hl2 comes out there could already be cheats. the asshole lamers now have a 2 month headstart on creating hax for hl2, and valve wont be able to react untill the game is out. I dare say that this may doom hl2 multiplayer.

ah...how does what munro did have anything to do with the source code being leaked? ah..it doesn't

and they could just ban people for making new threads...with a warning at the end of this one if it were closed.

i'm sure they woudn't mind banning all the people who don't take the time to read stickies and/or the reasons for closing threads

I'm thinking that someone working on Counter-Strike did it. they dont have the security that Valve does.

How the @#$@ are they going to fix this? "Attention - it has come to our attention that there has been a small leak. Please delete all source files kindly from your hard drives and conveniently forget this happened."

No dude, you can bet that they're having huge meetings for the next bunch of days OR LONGER and that all dev work has been DELAYED due to this crap, until they can decide what to do next. Who to fire? How much of the code needs to be REWRITTEN to prevent enormously large-scale cheating and warez-ing? What development processes need to be reworked? What to tell the public?

It's worse then that. It's not just a headstart for cheaters, it's the ability to find coding errors, authentication schemes, networking details that they might have never found out otherwise. It adds the ability to make much harder to detect, much more effective cheats. It's not just a "2 months behind" problem.

Doesn't make sense that there's a /cstrike folder. Is there anything in that folder structure?

I know we can expect a /cstrike2 some day, but I don't see /cstrike being directly ported to hl2 at this point.

yeah, a new GUI and some more source code for the mod. remember CS is a mod not a stand alone game. they just need to modify HL2 to make CS

well shit, valve has 3 options the way I see it(if the code I think was leaked was leaked).

1. release hl2 on time with no multiplayer.

2. release hl2 on time with multiplayer, and cheaters.

3. delay hl2.

I think we all know which one they would choose.
