The fact is that I no longer even visit the site after one of my visits to it and it had an open call for "journalists". Basically they were accepting submissions from "grassroots supporters" with no journalistic credentials and no fact checking on the articles.

I cannot say for certain whether or not that is still their practice, but once Joe UFOnut from OK started writing articles for them without being a journalist of any sort, I ignore anything coming from it.

It is possible that the article could be from a journalist and it could have been fact checked. But there is too much of a possibility that neither of those conditions were met on any article on the site to trust.

If it was a real article I am sure you can find the same information from other sources. If it only shows up on Indymedia, you should be worried that Dave "the mechanic-stoner" Smith from Indiana wrote it.

Terrorism is a twisted word, nowdays. A "terrorist" is, by definition, a radical who employs terror as a means of pushing a political point. The guys who blow up bombs in cafes' are a disgrase to real terrorists, who in fact do not want to kill innocents under no circrumstance. Terrorists can be a very good thing to have in situations where a government undermines it's citizens and revolution is needed. But we're talkin about the loonies who revel in death and martyrism, who have no real knowledge about what they are doing beside they will soon be surrounded by 72 virgins. If this kind of terrorist had any god damn brains, he'd question what his cause is actually for. Revolution within revolutionary groups. The only way to stop them is to A) Kill them all, down to the very core, or B) Send the message out to them, to question their purpose. We can only hope that they would take the message into consideration. We have the power to spread the word, I don't know why Bush hasn't thought about it.

When we hate, we shove people off bridges, and the terrorists get upset.

When we "happiness" ... I guess, by helping downed Insurgents with medical care, the same we'd give to our own soldiers, it suprises them.

The way we will defeat terrorism is to eliminate as much terroritory they posses as possible. They no longer have the ability to train in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and many other places in the Middle East due to our new foreign policy. Furthermore, a successful Iraq will play a major role. We can see that this is already going down the correct path with highly successfull elections only recently occuring.

But then you've 'eliminated' a whole lot of country (by eliminate I presume you mean invade - like Iraq yeh?) you've got a whole bunch of p*ssed off people.

In any argument about the number of civilians killed in the war I hear "Civilians always die in wars" - so, during your invasion of said terrorist countries a whole lot of innocents get killed. That leaves you with orphaned kids, husbandless wives and wifeless husbands very friggin p*ssed off at you. You've just created a whole knew generation of potential terrorists.

And who was slagging off Al Jazeera? I'll have you know that it's quite reputable; while it may be bias, it is no more so than the news you or I watch.

You are welcome to post a counter theory NoFuture, but it is silly to dismiss my assertion out of hand. It is commonly accepted among many that North American pop culture was a signifigant catalyst in bringing an end to the cold war. It's human nature to want a good life. Once people realize they can have it if they stop whatever it is they are doing, their 'beliefs' no longer seem very important to them.

There are some theories when the cold war did end.
One of them is, that the cold war end with the fall of Soviet union. So saying that North American pop culture was a significant catalyst in causing the fall of Sov. Union is simply not true.
Yes, I agree, it´s a human nature indeed to want a good life. But it was not N.A. pop culture what made the people of Soviet Union to realize, that they do can have a better life. Actually, the material issues weren´t such important for nations there as the freedom was.

This sweet word: Freedom.The fall of Soviet Union was caused by a very high desire of nations there for their independency. And they had been having this desire for all years of the occupation.

you're an academic bigot ..there's no denying the story ..there's absolutely no question of whether it happened or not ...if you had bothered to research the story you would have seen the picture of the boy lying there next to his severed arm
