How does everyone feel about November?

Over the past years I have come to trust those who are trust worthy about certain dates. I still trust them about release dates... Just not Half Life 2's anymore.

The only person I will trust is Gabe himself on the matter of HL2's release date. And none of this hacked forum crap, but wide fan base web sites with quotes from an email they recieved from Valve (Gabe)

Then and only then we will know that HL2 has gone GOLD

pffsh, I don't really care. The preloading thing calmed me down pretty much.. They will move the release date around (further down the road) but it's gotta come out in the next couple of months and that's okay for me.

It's not that I'm in a hurry.. Patience, my friends. Read a book. Go out. Enjoy the autumn sun.

I feel annoyed. There's no other way to feel.

I can't feel happy about it, that's for sure.

What I am confused about is the fact that the game hasn't gone gold but is being uploaded?? I know that the upload is only certain parts of the game, but surely if its not gold yet, they shouldn't be uploading?

WHY CAN'T VALVE JUST BE STRAIGHT WITH US ARGGHHHHHH!

Sorry, it's just that a year is a long time.

Because there's more to this than the game being finished. The "when it's done" phrase isn't entirely true because Vivendi want to step in and get the game released during the most profitable time of the year. November, which is close to holidays. I'd imagine there'd be internal fighting between Valve and Vivendi now...or maybe not. Maybe Valve also want to get it released then, despite the game being in a release worthy state at present.

Both companies know the game is going to make a lot of money regardless of when they release it. With that in mind wouldn't it be smarter, money-wise, to hold off just that extra few weeks to make a few extra million? You only risk pissing off a very small percentage of your potential customers, namely us people on forums.

HAlf-Life 1 was released in November 1998, nifty piece of info.

bliss:

Some parts of the game are finished and won't require any further updates. They can be considered to be "stable" in that they won't themselves cause any bugs. This includes textures and sounds. That's why they were available for preload.

1. The game isn't gold yet
2. It's September
3. There needs to be a massive amount of duplication done for a game this huge.
4. That will take at least a month (including shipping)
5. The very earliest the game will hit retail is mid October

But surely, doesn't every aspect of the game need to passed gold before release?

Dagobert, what if they didn't tell anyone that it had gone gold, and they were secretly duplicating and shipping as we speak? Gotta be on the cards hasn't it?

That's the catch-cry of the optimist.

In other words, there's no chance in the burning chasms of hell it would happen.

The game will be out when it's ready. I've seen far too many "I'm pissed off at VALVe because.." threads. Just wait. Play a different game (Doom 3 is a good SP experiance and Fable/Sims 2 are out later this month) and have a little more patience. We've already waited an extra year, what's a couple of extra months?

Not to hijack the thread but... That kind of saying "What's an extra couple of months" is exactly what delays the game by years ;o

"It's already been a year, they can wait a few more weeks..."
"It's already been a year, they can wait a few more months..."
"It's already been 2 years, they can wait a few more weeks..."
"It's already..."

When will it end? Where do you draw the line? :\
I think if the community WASN'T being pissed off by this, THEN we would have something to worry about

Just a couple thoughts :)

Well JeZ this is the only place where we can open our hearts and cry about whats happening, if I want to be pissed off with Valve I will be. An hello...The Sims? Don't even mention that game around here, good game but not in the slightest bit interested when HL2 is on the horizon. By the way, Doom 3 is excellent, but HL2 looks much better.

4. That will take at least a month (including shipping)

dont be silly, it'll only take about 2 weeks, 3 at a push. hl2 isnt SO HUGE as to require a bigger release than every other game in history. especially with the amount of steam sales that will happen.

Agreed! :D

I'm disappointed but as I think about it, it isn't going to make the slightest jot of difference to my life as a whole when it comes out so I don't see much point in getting too worked up about it.
I certainly don't hate Valve - if anything I'm more pissed off at the immature people who constantly whine on about how Valve has done them so much wrong, etc. etc.
The best is when people say they're not going to buy it, as a protest as if it would make a drop of difference in sales figures. They'll buy it anyway.
I can't remember who on this forum said it but: "Wow, you sound like Valve's your abusive father or something."

It's a long wait.

But nothing I can't live with. And I'm certainly not pissed off at Valve. How could I be mad at the people who will bring me the best game in years?

Indeed it is your right to be pissed off bliss, all I was saying was that there are other games that can be played to help the wait pass quicker.

How do I feel about November? Indifferent. I've been saying November for months, it's about time people started to listen.

I don't hate Valve, I just think that they should be a little more open and honest with us, after all, in the long run we pay their wages.

i too believed the november release when it was announced. it makes more sense, in terms of weather that is. a winter release will mean that everyone will be buying it, and not going out to enjoy the sun.

how do i feel tho? pissed off and getting bored of all this **** about hl2 is how i feel. valve should be ashamed and better compensate for our patience somehow...

Do you wanna quickly run through the turnaround times on some of VUG's recent releases, mr expert?

You honestly telling me no game EVER has had a gold to release time of over a month?

Doom 3 didn't take a month did it?

If its´out in november I´d be extremely frustrated.
It´s not even funny anymore, and valve needs to get that..

I actually, like it. I did`t get my x800pro yet and didn`t upgrade my rig. But I will in the next 2 months so...

[SARCASM]I actually mailed Gabe and asked him to delay it a little bit more because I didn`t upgrade my rig yet.[/SARCASM]

I couldn't care less, i want the game an awful lot, it shall be (hopefully) a lot of fun. However, there is plenty going on in my life to keep me busy so any delays don't worry me too much, getting it this year would be nice as there doesn't seem to be too many other games i would buy right now but if they want to delay it further they can go ahead and if they want to release it tomorrow that's also cool.

Simply put, whenever Valve deem the time right to release their game i shall play it and, if it is of a high standard, enjoy it. My concern over the date of its release will not affect anyone but myself.

So what? It's a couple of months. It's not hard to keep yourself occupied besides salivating over a video game.

I think many people while anxious might anticipating it so much they might be dissapointed with the game. Th hype will be too much. For me, i think it will be a top notch game. But the constant delays are driving me crazy! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

Ok I feel better now.

Could be worse - just think what Duke Nukem Forever fans have been going through.

Duke Nukem? Hello?....don't even compare, infact don't even mention HL2 and Duke Nukem on the same thread!

I don't care about duke nukem, all I care about is that I've put on a little bit of weight, so I can have a little baby....girl power and all that shite......err I mean HL2

Oh stop being such a pathetic fanboy. Well... girl. Stop being such a pathetic fangirl.

If there is any game you should be playing between now and HL2 release, it's Rainbox Six 3: Raven Shield Multiplayer. Tis' the shit!

I think November is a very realistic date right now. I think valve will keep the beta going until mid-last half of september, then I think we'll find that they will dissapear for a while, fixing all the bugs/problems they discovered then after a few weeks send the Gold off, leaving a few more weeks until everything is shipped and ready to be on the shop floors.

What really amazes me is that DNF still has a fanbase. Which makes me wonder at which point would i stop caring about HL2? If those guys have been sitting around for 4 years with no more than 1 video ...interesting.

I mean honestly, look at those guys ->http://forums.3drealms.com/ubbthreads/postlist.php?Cat=0&Board=UBB10

Most of the topics are created with the feeling the game is only a few months away, just like this forum. The worst thing about the 12 month HL2 delay is that Valve have constantly been teasing the whole time. Magazine reviews, E32004, more videos, random posts from Gabe. Now i'm sitting here with 2gb of hl2 preloads on my computer thinking the game SHOULD be going gold any day now. Yet Valve have shut up !! They've gone quiet at the worst time possible. Is it "that time of the month" at Valve software or something?

Was it something i said?
No
Was it something i did?
No
Was it something i said in relation to something i did?
No!

Yeah.....wtf

The longer it takes, the better it will be.. IMO.

I am not annoyed at all.

The thing is by the time HL2 finally comes out, I'm gonna be drawing my pension, and so, I won't be able to afford to buy it! Livid. *weeps in to his cup of tea*
