Any predictions on how many paint cans you are gonna knock over before you get tired of it? It seems cool as hell now but, I can somehow picture it getting tedious. /shrug.

I admit after about two minutes of fiddling with ragdoll physics and knocking boxes into each other on the Havok site I was bored. I don't think this will be the case with Half-Life 2, though. Valve has made the physics system one of the most integral aspects of gameplay, and have incorporated it into nearly every object in the environment. For me, I think the selling point of the physics system in the game will have to do with how you use it to your advantage against enemies. Those possibilities alone seem endless. But as far as walking around City 17 with the manipulator and picking up random debis and hucking it around; well I'm sure that novelty will wear off quickly.

I think i took an hour of those ragdoll physics, while listening to progressive trance. And i never get tired

Or let's say you block a hallway with a table, the soldier climbs on top to get over, you shoot out the legs, he falls, slides down the table, onto the ground, and you shoot him in the head. Think that's possible? I hope so.
And then you realize that the only powerlines in the city is the high voltage ones, and one of them happen to have a one way ticket to your faceOriginally posted by spitcodfry
That would be absolutely bitchin'. Here's a cool idea I have that I hope you can do in the game: A group of Combine soldiers are standing watch in the middle of a square in City 17. Powerlines dangle about ten feet above their head in criss-cross fashion. From afar, unnoticed, you pop a single round into one of the overhanging wires. It comes swinging down around them, shooting sparks like crazy. Little to no damage is received by the power lines, but in the soldiers' state of confusion, you have the upper hand. You rush in with guns blazing, taking each one out with relative ease.

But you got a HEV suit so it doesnt matter. The only thing it needs is baby powder. And lots of it.

remember the metal beam in traptown that swings around and kills couple of combine soldier, i want to jump on it and see how it feels.

i think in the world of hl2, there will be no friction, the metal beam will never stop to swing.

It's a pendulum, there is very little friction involved other than air resistance. Pendula (correct plural of pendulum anyone?) keep swinging for a long, long time and the time of each swing is always the same, the distance of the swing will reduce over time but the duration of the swing will remain constant, hence their use in clocks. It's simple harmonic motion, I'm sure I used to know a formula for it but it's been a while.

Exactly, the physics arent build onto the side of the game, they are completly assimilated into the game. It's not like there will we a level where you "get physics" and then play around with it, everything will be related to it and use it in slight ways to immerse you.
All just theories i suppose but still....
Don't be rediculous. If there was no friction in HL2's physics engine, bodies, boxes, and anything else would slide endlessly along the ground as if it were ice.Originally posted by gamevoodoo
Since the metal beam in traptown keep swinging, i can tell there's not friction in the physics of hl2.
If gamevoodoo ever gets one, I'll eat my hat. In fact, no. I'll eat my TV.I've already got a physics degree.
Like having a catapult in the map to launch people\objects\vehicles\explosive material over fortress walls? There are unlimited possibilities with the level of physics Valve have worked into HL2. It won't get old as long as the mod community stays alive, which it certainly will.Originally posted by TripleDES
I think the physics will last the longest in multiplayer. Manipulator fight maps might prove successful. That is aslong people bring in new concepts.

Not as fast as I have gotten tired of useless threads...

speaking of useless, hmm your post fits into that category.
can't people like you just ignore stuff they don't like? do you really have to post and say "blah blah i'm an ass and i think i'm better than you blah blah"
