not really ..as your biggest trading partner whatever happens to you affects us as well


having said that I might be happy if your country was peacefully occupied by an overwhelming international peacekeeping force who disolved your government, arrested the entire bush administration and brought war crime charges against the principle players ..perhaps they could be handed over to the iraqi authorities ...I hear they've just built a gallows
 
you want your government to be taken by force? 10's of thousands would be killed in the initial invasion and 100's of thousands would be killed during the occupation as different factions battle it out for supremacy .. no, you need peacekeepers to keep you from ripping each other to shreds ..besides they'll allow free elections once the dust settles

US is primarily coasting at the moment on momentum of past actions.

Thanks in part to a multitude of internal factors, I believe we are going to go the route of russia. Turning itself into a paper tiger before collapsing or merely getting by as a shadow of its former self sometime within the next 75 years.

I'm thinking China will become the singular super power by then, at which point we'll all be pretty much screwed since china does not mess around.

And Stern, quit your soapboxing about the bush administration, by the time the USA ceases to be a super power the bush administration will be just another historical footnote.
 
The problem with US military power is that they can't use it. They consider their troops to be more valuable than any other country so any casualties at all are unacceptable. Nobody is going to invade North America. The country will crumble on its own in a few decades. Probably USA will try to invade Iran first and the whole area is going to turn into a big ****hole.

The USA will remain the superpower until china takes over the world...they can right now if they want.
 
At current China definatley does not posess the military and economic power to take over the world. It could probably take over Taiwan and possibly South Korea, but not the world, not even Russia or India.

I was speaking militarily. They couldn't take Taiwan, their naval and air forces are far too inferior to ever get a foothold on the island. On the same landmass, they are a force to be reckoned with but they have very little force projection.

And you can't be a superpower unless you have the ability to rapidly project vast military force across the entire world. We are more powerful than China in that sense. Britain couldn't conquer China, but we could conquer Taiwan.
 
Meh, we could conquer Free China too, if we wanted to. We've got one of the world's best marine corps, with the best/2nd best landing training, not to mention our vastly superior army.

Lol. We could take on Canada and win as well. We've got the 4th greatest army in the world. Our K-1 and K-2 tanks are nearly unbeatable in mountaneous terrain, and nearly matches with the Leopard tank in terms of efficiency. We have 750,000 active troops, a few million reserves, and our Marine corps number more than the entire military of Japan and many other nations.

Of course, North Korea, with nukes, somewhat pose a big threat to the free Republic of Korea.
 
Not too long 25-60 years i say.

But they won't just yield the status of superpower easily. Being such a selfish nation they'll drag the world back to the stoneage first instead of handing the superpowers over to China or another country so easily.

Well substantiate your claims, then. You could start by demonstrating how China could so effortlessly crush Taiwan.
 
As horrible, tragic, and damaging as it was, it was far from bringing America to its knees. Morale was what suffered the most. And that was immediately followed by gung-ho military advocacy.
 
It shook the nation, all flights stopped, the economy suffered, no-one knew what was happening.

It was devastating, only for a short while though. I'm not holding that against the US, I'm still mystified as how they couldn't scramble fighters in time though.

I'd say Katrina is another example of just how weak America can be domestically. Economically as well, things aren't looking great.
