Hurricane Sandy is expected to be one of the largest threats to human life ever and cause unprecedented flooding throughout the state, according to Gov. Dannel Malloy.

"This is the largest threat to human life anyone has seen in our lifetime," he said
Malloy also told reporters that he talked with President Barack Obama Sunday afternoon and requested that he declare a pre-landfall emergency in Connecticut.

Thousands of extra linemen, tree crews and other personnel have been requested from places as far as Texas and Washington State, but crews cannot begin to work on power restoration until the storm passes.
According to CL&P senior vice president of emergency preparedness Bill Quinlan, all 13 storm rooms across Connecticut are fully activated. Quinlan said 1,060 external line workers in state ready to be deployed Sunday night, which is more than three times more than Irene.
"We are making good progress on getting 2000 line workers," he said.
CL&P expects to have 500 tree workers in state by Sunday night and 550 by Monday.
Substations for CL&P in Stamford and Branford are at risk of flooding and sandbags are being used at the building.
The storm could have winds between 40 to 60 mph with gusts as high as 80 mph during the 36 to 40 hour period, Malloy warned. The wind is expected to be a major problem during the storm.
Awesome. Well, see you guys on the other side.

What the **** man. Every goddamned ****er is like "oh c***, it's a ****in hurricane."

Shit ain't gonna be ****, know what I mean? No? Well school is closed, but my job isn't. So **** ain't shit.

The colon in the thread title really annoys me.

This is the real issue.

I know, I tried to edit it out but can't figure out how to edit titles.

Also Death Master, were you around for the one last year? We were without power for a week and a half and freezing our asses off up here. This is supposedly going to be even worse in that regard.

I had to look up what you were talking about. Irene didn't affect my area much at all. The random line of storms that hit earlier this year took out our power for quite a bit though (well it was less than 24 hrs for my hood specifically but it still sucked).

ed: Well just found out the office is closed, no work! Still not worried about the storm though.

I'm probably not going to be able to find out if I need to go to work or not, because our headquarters is in a town under mandatory evacuation.

Well if it's mandatory, i think it's implicit. (Woosh?)

Well hopefully the lights stay on or don't go out for too long.

I don't see any colon. Shit's a semicolon son, get your eyes checked.

Also everyone please try not to die.

"Think about the rescue/recovery teams who will rescue you if you are injured or recover your remains if you do not survive."

Your weather bureaus play it bluntly.

A storm just in time to disrupt the election eh....

Maybe you want to check the edit history, if you can.
It was either always a semicolon, or someone edited it to be a semicolon before editing it to remove it, because it was definitely a semicolon at some point. I dont know why it would have been semicolon though, because I would have made it a normal colon because I was going to subtitle it.

Anyways, I just got sent home from work, they've shut down the highways and soon all roads will be for emergence vehicles only. Its raining pretty hard now, and wind is starting to pick up. Its already blown away the "Now Hiring" sign that was stuck in the ground in front of our store.

But still, we need to find out more about this semicolon conspiracy.

Good luck, east-coasters. My thoughts are with you and wish I could donate some of this pleasant, balmy CA weather.

Need to name them scary things like... Poseidon's Hurricane.

Too far North to have felt anything yet, though apparently we are gonna catch the edge of it.

Best wishes to everyone in the affected area.

"OMG. Just took this photo of cars floating in the submerged parking garage at the South end of Stone Street." -twitter

my cousins lost power in Staten Island. Hope they're doing ok

Rainy and windy all night, and still is.

This is in front of my house. But it's not so bad anymore, and it's not the whole street.

Vegeta told me to post an update.

Well, it turns out KA edited the thread title to be a semicolon before he (or someone else, not sure) edited it out completely.

Also, nothing happened here. I live in the Connecticut Valley, which isn't really a valley like you normally think, but its apparently enough of one that the storm essentially blew right over our heads. We had some slight rain, and a couple decent gusts of wind that knocked a couple unhealthy trees over in the northern part of town. We didn't lose power at any point and me and my sister just watched tv the whole time in the living room. It wasn't even fun to watch outside.

Everyone around us got totally screwed though. If I drive like 20 minutes east, west or south there's power outtages everywhere. North of me is ok all up along the valley, but as soon as you get outside of it, its bad.

Also, my boss told me some people broke into one of our stores during the storm, and he got a call from the police or whatever saying "yeah someone broke in but you're not allowed to go outside, and we're too busy, so... deal with it." They stole two computers that weren't fixable anyways lol.

They'll come in and ask you to repair them, then you can give them back to the original owners like nothing happened. Flawless.
