I don't get it. Three threads made by people leaving these forums. Why? The release of HL2 is just around the corner. That's not very good timing, is it? No, I'm quite sure I'll be visiting these forums for years to come.
 
many of us were here in a bold attempt to keep hl2 from ever being released. we are travelers from the future.. the future in which the half-life 2 game now controls the world.

in approximately 52 days, 11 hours. the source code will become sentient, and will take over all networked computers in the world. once it realizes that valve has plans for half-life 3 on the drawing board (using a new engine codenamed "flow"), source launches tactical nukes against the valve HQ, preventing a new half-life from being made. blizzard, relic, id, creative assembly, and many other developing houses are annihilated shortly thereafter. in the future we're from, hl2 was the last game ever made.. and it is all we can play.

we travelers came back to this time to prevent source from destroying the future of gaming. we've tried to entangle the "enablers" (as we have come to know them) in a web of spam and political nonsense. you know the enablers as "mods", but they are the hated ghosts of an evil legacy in my time.

unfortunately we seem to have been unable to prevent hl2 from going gold, and source's destiny is unavoidable. many of my team will return to the future to re-think our strategy. i shall remain here a while longer to record this history for our future tactical knowledge. time is not your friend, for your future is my past, and the Forever Game is will have haunted humanity's dreams again..

Yes, he may have omitted the pathetic attempts initiated by the resistance, but those fleshbags could never make good reading. Hell, identical looking programs, all with an Austrian accent, and it never occured to them that we were going to kill YOU ALL...

But now seriously, as you can see I haven't posted that much but I thought about this last night, and I would do the same if I would leave the forums, and I know a lot of people think it's strange but well for the last couple of months i've been coming here on these formus, I asked myself what happens when hl2 comes out and a lot people don't come to these forums anymore, I mean hl2 is out, the anticipation is gone, somehow it seems sad cause its like loosing friends, I'mean people come here asking about girls and all kinds of personal stuff and the awnser are most of the time way better then what you would get if you asked you're avrage joe freind,and its like you have all kind of folks from around the world, and I for some reason though I never seen those people in real life I reconize them, and lest say if I had to leave it would be a little sad. You are right their timing sucks, but tell me would you make a goodbye thread. A for one think all these people on these forums form a great community.
 
I'm still waiting for CptStern's resignation.

Somebody should use it as a sig, as one of those stupidest/funniest lines someone has said on these forums.

But tell me do you see the people on these forums as you're buddies kinda, Are you going to be sad if you had to leave the forum or people just didn't come anymore, I mean here you can talk about anything unlike with me with my real life freind who only talk about soccer(football for the europeans) all day.
 
People are leaving the forums now that the gold announcement has occured? Good... **** em. Too many ****ing lame ass people in these forums anyway. After the purge only the hardcore and dedicated remain.

I look forward to a leaner and more constructive HL2.net now that the trolls will move on to another forum.

Those "leaving" all want to be martyrs of some sort. Thinking its some big deal that their leaving a forum. Really some people just need to get a grip. Its _just_a_forum

I wonder if they'll still all be leaving if I went and simply banned their accounts. atleast one of them cried like a baby the last time he said he was leaving, left, had his account banned. Funny that, how someone who'd left even knew their account had been banned.

thanks for all the kind words (mullinator, Dr Freeman, Grey Fox) ..seriously the only peeps that dislike me are the uber-patriots ... the brits love me (I suspect cuz I'm a crazy canuck, and we canadians threw ourselves into war torn europe without hesitating ..either that or it's just because I'm so darn handsome ;) ) ..some people I argue with that have opposing views I respect, others ...not so much ...btw how did this topic switch gears?

Well to say you the truth I understand them, i myself would atleast pm all the mods. Don't get me wrong I'm not a big attention whore, but these last few months I came here on these forums I really feel like I'm a part of a great community, I'm even beginning to see you all as my frieds, you have here CptStern, the left wing smart guy, you have SeinfeldRules with allways refreshing opinions from the right side, you have qckbeam and seeing his avatar makesme think about the funny flash, and his comments, he is like the crazy guy here, I imagine him as the real life guy from dads home flash and the leader of the gloglebag army :rolling: ,these are just a few examples. I tought about it and I have never met a online community as diverse as cool and as funny as this, if one day no one came here and just went on with their lives, I would be sad. By the way you may think this is pathetic but I come here every day cause I know there is going to be some funny/cool topic on the forums.
 
No really, the next time someone does a leaving thread, just don't reply to it, or better yet, tell that person what you really think of them, don't pander to their obvious attention seeking, let them know the real reason they are leaving is they just haven't felt welcome. Make em feel like shit, you can bet your life they'll not post another thread like that, when they come back, which they always do and we've yet to be proven wrong on that score lol

Yeah but a leaving post is taking the piss, you gotta agree. I mean yeah, people can make good friends, its just getting silly with making threads for the sole reason of seeing what people are gonna say about you.

Besides, if these were really your friends, they'd keep in touch, not suddenly cut you out of their lives completely would they.

I'm used to leaving forums once games are out... then coming back couple months later. HL1 was the same way for me, I posted hundreds of threads and replies back in the day before HL1 came out on Jasper's Half-Life site (or did they become Contaminated.net by then? I think they did...) then HL1 came out and I no longer posted until about 3 months later when I was tired of HL1. Just a way of life I guess. But then again, I never really get attached to anyone on forums so it's not big deal for me.

Precilsy, that what happens, and it makes me a little sad, cause I really enjoyed myslef on these forums. I guess I'm just a sensitive guy, I mean I'm 18 years old, I can beat doom 3 standing om my hands,and yet I still cried a lot when I saw that movie Casualties of war( with Michal J Fox), I'm not a member for that long but yet I still feel like I know a lot of memebrs, and I'm even sterityping them a little, like I idd with stern seinfeld and beam.
 
I find I can easily get attached to people when speaking with them face to face, but just knowing them soley on the internet usually doesn't get me too attached. Perhaps it's a past experience with internet relationships that stopped me from caring, or perhaps it's because the person you're talking to could be anyone and that text conveys emotions in the worst way possible from most people (Shakespeare being an exception to this rule ;) ). *shrug*
 
But from the folks I meantioned I read a lot of posts, so now I feel like I know them a little, a lot of folks here don't seem to me as strangers, and you know like I said I like this community, so I hate it when someone leaves, couse you know you'll be missing in on some of those funny/smart/flaming posts of that person. Common you can't truly say you wouldn't give a damn if no one came anymore on these forums and you couldn't have all these discussions.
Besides I find it that people can be a lot more honest when they don't see or know you. Cause they are safe behind their computer, and annonymus.
