The new property id Software executives have repeated hinted towards is named Rage, co-founder and programmer John Carmack revealed at today's QuakeCon festivities.

"Everybody knows we're going to do a good job with the run and gun action stuff...but we are branching out," explained Carmack, who noted id's love for a Road Warrior-esque atmosphere.

A trailer for the title showcased driving and expansive outdoor areas in addition to id's traditional shooting elements. Shacknews editor Chris Remo described both the character models and the environment as incredibly detailed, complete with good facial animation on NPCs and impressive detail on a small fly.

Though Carmack did not specify which platforms Rage will arrive on, he did reveal that the game will ship on two DVDs and one Blu-ray disc--strongly implying PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions in addition to the expected PC edition.

in other news, Every single id Software game is now available on Steam.

Looks interesting. Not sure what it's about though. I see vehicles though!
There are trailer links in the shacknews comments.

Nice.

Also, the game is on two DVD's or one blu-ray...

I hope the game has a lot of gameplay to justify that. I don't mind switching disc's because I did it a lot with PS1. However, games like Final Fantasy could get away with that only because they offered tons of gameplay per disc.

If this is only like a ten hour game then multiplayer only, then I'll be worried about changing discs...

Game looks interesting though.

I just bought commander Keen for 5 bucks

Just like Rockstar did with their Table Tennis game,i think that they're using this title to test out the gamers response and overall reaction to this engine.Duke Nukem Forever anyone?

Not impressed with the trailer. We will see once more info is released.

They still havn't got rid of the plastic-looking-everything..

Looks kind of generic..fps games are becoming so bland.
The facial animations aren't up to par with hl2's facial animations and it was released in 2004. :|
Graphics are nice and I like the kart thingy but..but yeah, nothing new and innovative.

Can someone tell me how to stop gametrailers.com from automatically going fullscreen with their shitty little flash videos? It's only started happening in the last few weeks or so.

this looks totally next gen. whats the release date on this title ?

The engine looks immense. He says using crazy-sized textures won't affect performance, how does that work?

have you people who say you're not impressed even watched the developer walk trough of the engine and how you work in it. Tech 5 is ****ing amazing.

ID once again, leading the way in how games are done. That megatexture technology is simply amazing. "Every pixel on the level can be unique", plus those post effects, massive polygon count and huge level of detail...yep, ID have pushed the bar again.

I had that problem too. I just changed it from flash to quicktime and it stopped doing it, god it was annoying though.

Very impressive trailer. Seems that Carmack has taken on board the criticisms that were leveled at Doom3 and responded positively. Should be interesting to see how things develop.

Looks like motorstorm...I already have Motorstorm, so what's the point of me buying this game?? :|

The engine is the second coming of christ.

now start the flames

The moment I discovered that all the weapons use the same ammo pool, I quit the game and uninstalled it.

How horrible, a game in which u use the weapons based on the situation rather then how much ammo you have. What next, the ability to save anywhere?
Interesting story? Replayablity? Dynamic shadows? Shitload of Bugs? Oh what will those crazy developers think of next.

Are you goddamned kidding me? Invisible War was still awesome. What a bullshit reason to uninstall.

I still have to finish Deus Ex and I have yet to play Invisible War. But as long as there was a decent reason within IW's universe as to why/how all your weapons use a common ammo pool, there's no problem with that. It's just a different way of handling weapon use in a shooter.

Id probably make more from selling their engines than from game sales :p

And I found the fact that, in Invisible War, it always seemed to take about 3 or 4 times more ammo to kill someone than you get from their bodies (They guy fired nothing, why am only getting half a clip! RAWR!) than the universal ammo thing.

If Invisible War wasn't a sequel to such a fantastic game, people wouldn't complain so much. Really, it's a very good game, but Deux Ex is SOOO much better, I can't even compare.

Maybe . . . except I played Invisible war FIRST & thought it sucked, then went back & enjoyed Deus Ex.

On a different subject, it is valid to down-rate a sequel based on how it compared to the original BECAUSE they're allowed to rip off the original in EVERY way. Failing to use those features that made the original (not hard to find out, asking the fan-base) or replacing them with worse features (because some marketing moron thinks he knows better) reflects on how well the developer did.
