If you could have 50lbs of anything, what would you have?

The_Monkey said:
Why cant you all start using the metric system?

Because it sucks. The rest of the world uses it... because it sucks. America is superior! rawr!

15357 said:
no it doesn't. everyone else uses it, why can't you?

The rest of the world hates America too... you don't see me in the same position.

I don't see what is so hard to understand about our system.

Why does it suck? Because it's far easier and make much more sense? Because it's used by all the world save the US and Britain? Can you tell me one thing that's better with the Avoirdupois System? One thing?

Its not easier... how the hell is 23kg easier than 50 pounds?

well, if the US stopped being an imperialist devil....... :p

btw, i don't hate America, just some of its policies, not including the War on Terror.

Read that link I gave just above... thats the reason Metric sucks.

what kind of (insert silly word here) would make an organization dedicated to hating the metric system?

Metric only "sucks" when you convert imperial measurements into it, or if you don't understand math (his recurring 3 example was saddening)

hmm...

1000 mm = 100 cm = 10 dm = 1 m = 0.1 km
1 dm^3 = 1 L
1000 ml = 100 cl = 10 dl = 1 L
1 L water = 1 kg
1000 g = 1 kg

Not too difficult, is it?

What kind of people would base their entire life around hating one single man(bush)? I dunno... people are nutjobs

Wassat!? I see alot of 1's and 0's. I suck at math. :E

You have yet to name a single good thing about your old ineffective system.

Yep, they are nutjobs.

Whats to say? How am I supposed to change your mind? You were raised with the metric system, I was raised with whatever the hell the american system is called, and its easier for me.

I ain't got no scientific way to convince you... its one of those things that some people find easier one way, and easier the other way. And I hate metric cause I don't understand it. I'm a dumb american.

i think its called the imperial system, dunno why.

:|

What's there not to understand? Hell, I was raised with Swedish, but that's not an excuse not to learn other languages. Sure, you can use the Avoirdupois System, but you can't say that the metric system sucks just because you don't understand it.

i agree, but i thought we were entitled to our own opinion? even if it was idiotivc,

Of course. But It would be nice if he backed up his statement ("the metric system sucks"), don't you think?

Look... when I said it sucks, I wasn't being bone dry serious here. Cut me some freaking slack. Its just one of those smartass things.
I personally find the 'imperial' system as its called, far easier when doing certain things. Okay, we're saying 50 pounds in this thread. What is the metric system for 49 pounds? How about 48, 47, 46, 45, 44, 43, 42, 41 and so on? Is there some clear, concise and reasonable method to figuring all those out? To me, the american method is much more reasonable to me... because I was raised in an enviroment, in my entire country where most everything is done in the imperial system.

Its not the same thing as languages. Sure, you go from country to country in europe and you'll encounter a plethora of varying languages, but you'll also encounter the metric system in pretty much every country you go in there, right?

I look at anything in my household, look at the street signs driving cross country, you name it... everything is in the imperial system. Why should I feel the need to try to do pointless converting on every mile marker I see, when I can just use my beloved imperial system.

100 miles... I see that, and I know what to expect. Its a good, spread out point of reference for me to just accurate gauge how far something is. That number starts going down as I go along on my trip, and it is a slow, steady progression, and everything just 'makes sense' for me. I'm sitting here doing 60mph... I know if I maintain my speed at 60, i'll be 40 miles from that destination in 60 minutes... one minute per mile. If I went 40 down the same path, I know i'd be able to achieve 60 miles from the target in 60 minutes, cause the method is still the same, i'm just going slower.

As far as I am concerned, though I haven't done any study on the metric system, its not the same with it. Your numbers are greater for the milage, and less for things like weights compared to our system. I see 160km, and I don't know what the hell distance I have to go, compared to 100 miles. To me it just seems less practical to increase the distance for such a thing, when in my mind I have engrained the imperial system thinking that more, is farther. More is not farther in the metric system for distance... more can be less, or it can be the same, and if its significantly more, it can be farther.

And with weights... damn, with weights, I don't get it... 50 pounds is 23kg? What the hell...as I said before, how is that an accurage system for me to determine any weight I need to, without doing any unnecessary calculations in my head?

Bah. Sorry for the long, ranting, nonsensical post here, i'm tired and just want to go to bed!

Long story short... why should we convert to the metric system, when we utilize it JUST as effectively as you guys utilize your metric system? Why should we be assimiliated with your system, if ours does the same thing just as well, if not better in my mind? Thats just like the whole, 'speak english because everybody else uses english' mentality we have here in america. People like it that way just so things are easier for themselves... and not necessarily the others. Same thing with your desire to assimilate us into your system that to me... is confusing and really impractical.

Weed yo.

Make some serious money off 50 lbs.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe I'll just take 50 lbs. of hundred dollar bills.

Pff raziaar, thats what happens when you try and convert your dodgy system into the superior verson metric... It's like trying to using word 2000 to read a document made in notepad :D it turns out dodgy :p

Nothing man. I'm all american. There was no bashing there. I'm just remarking how you made the right decision to take the money over the pot, leaving out all the work and danger needed to sell it, and making more of a profit :smoking:

United Earth Education System will be 10 times better! There are no infidels!

Didn't someone else in this thread mention weed, and someone else said get the money for the weed instead?

Its called working smarter. Working more is worse than working less by working smarter and getting paid the same.

I think thats why we have this thing called technology.
