Imbecilism on a new level!

Yes, lets call people stupid totally unprovoked.

why is it stupid? Nasa allows for bibles in space ..why not the koran ..especially since malayasia is predominately muslim

frankly all religious people should be extreminated but that's another topic altogether

/runs

PvtRyan, I agree with you completely. I'm half playing devil's advocate here, because I personally would prefer if religion (or at least theistic religions) were eliminated completely, but we have to be realistic. Religion is going to be around for a while yet, and discriminating against religious people is frankly sort of f*cked up.

Someone believing in God doesn't make them any less scientifically or intellectually capable, nor does it detract from their ability to reason in ANY area other than when it comes to religion. At least not necessarily.

There is not nearly enough respect in this thread, for each other and for other religions. Come on, folks.

And you claim to be tolerant!

Why not be tolerant to the tolerant and peaceful religionists? They're free to follow a religion just as you're free to not follow one(at least in this day and age thankfully).

But... extreminated isn't a word, and if it was... I don't think you want religious people to be made more EXTREME!

lol "extreminate" is a pretty awesome typo

I miss Pressure

respect ehh?

not when some religious politician wants to force women to wear veils.
or to force religious class, or to take land, make abortion illegal,...
i could go on forever!

what respect?

our saying goes something like this...i you give someone a finger he will take your whole hand.

when i say stupid to someone...i don't mean as in you were born stupid...but that you free willingly decide for something outright stupid.

You're right, we should fight intolerance with intolerance. :upstare:

seriously think realistic! is there another way for solving this problem other than mocking?

science did and is doing a great job at pwning religion every day, but it's way to slow and religious people always tend to just say "god was first".

pleas do tell me how

Religion is going to continue to be a powerful force REGARDLESS of whatever happens in the future, for quite a long time yet. It will die out eventually but at the moment I'd argue it's probably still necessary for society to function correctly. Short of a totalitarian regime uniting the world and stamping out religion, get used to it being there. Idealism is nice but it's also silly to put into practice when there's no chance of your ideals being even close to reached in your lifetime. Work towards it, but deal with the present. We also need to remember that people's beliefs deserve respect regardless of whether we feel it is rational or not, because religion plays an extremely important role in a lot of people's lives.

I somewhat agree with JVerne ..being tolerant of people's beliefs only goes so far ..when they start imposing their moral code on us all well then it's time to step up and take a stand ..if it leads to intolerence then so be it, something must be done to stem the tide of religious doctrine premeating our society ..I for one am tired of being tolerant ..I'll respect someone's beliefs but dont expect me to be non critical especially if you expect me to accept your ideology in it's totality. Case in point, my coworker is a devout christian I never discuss religion politics till that one day he said "gays are sinners" ..at that point the tolerence gloves come off

i AM working :P

of course peoples believes need to be respected, even if their believes is to have you dead.

whose more idealistic?

I definitely agree here. I'm speaking about only the religious people that also respect other people's beliefs. I can't ****ing stand it when people start ranting about homosexuality being a sin or crap like that. Anyone attempting to impose their beliefs on me usually ends up getting way more than they bargained for though lol.

ya but at some point, ignoring their comments seems to be the best method ..it's not even confined to religious ideology ..the guy in shipping hates blacks, the other guy hates immigrants, the sales guy is conservative and thinks marriage is sacred, the woman is sales thinks gays are diseased etc etc ..I mean you cant swing a dead cat without hitting some stupid ideology or other

yes the extremist...

read about moderate religion!

it's funny...i'm just noticing but it might not be true...

people who watched all the atheist arguments against religion also turn atheist, if they don't they either didn't seen enough or are complete imbeciles (voluntary imbeciles, that is).

yeah, but everyone's entitled to think whatever they want to, no matter how idiotic it is. i'm just trying to say that we shouldn't immediately judge people for being religious, because that fact alone doesn't necessarily mean they're stupid or prejudiced. this argument sort of deviated from the point i was making :p

I agree with your point ..however I'm having a hard time keeping to that unwritten rule ..especially the more rediculous the ideology is

i mean who has respect for tom Cruise? not many people, and it's mostly to do with his religious beliefs

LOL respect their right to believe what they want, not the person. Tom Cruise is an idiot. I respect that he believes in Scientology, and I wouldn't take steps to forcefully block him from doing so, but he's a f*cking moron, along with the rest of his religion.

i agree that everybody is entitled to think what he wants FOR HIMSELF.

anyone who truly believes in religion is ignorant.

even the Buddhist religion which is probably the most peaceful of it all, believes that a holy ghost lives in everything natural so therefore we cannot tamper with it. why the **** not?

you see what i mean.

personally I wouldnt bat an eyelash if they were all extreminated ;)

Respect is a worthless word these days. It means nothing more than "tolerate" while it should mean "value something highly". I don't respect religion and I don't respect your beliefs, I tolerate them as long as they're harmless.

I would suggest thinking about it more deeply. Or take acid, if that's what you need to get a bit more mentally flexible / adventurous. Science does not necessarily exclude one-ness; it supports it, actually. Think in terms of metaphors, as well. Or I can argue with you about Buddhism, because it most definitely does more good than harm.

well you are right...believing in science doesn't exclude itself

No idea what you just said really.

ahh forget it, it seems we're not getting anywhere.

i must apologize if i was insulting at times, (political) religion just pisses me off. so does anybody who tries to defend it just for the sake of defending it.

friends?

Heh I was just engaging in friendly debate anyway, there were no hard feelings through any of this from my side :p and remember I tend to agree with you on most of this I just feel like we should treat people equally regardless of how stupid they are

That was very perceptive, I agree 100%. You never have to respect anyone's beliefs.
