No idea if anyone's already said this, but:
1. I swear to God there was an identical thread (probably with the exact same title) at least once before this. Do we really need another?
2. I, personally, find the idea of an entire thread devoted to showing off how r0xx0rz your PC is more than a tad self-indulgent. It's bad enough when it's in peoples' sigs.
3. I also find it intensely tedious; you have a good PC. Huzzah for you. Have a cookie.
4. There's always one miserable bastard who always sticks their oar in when it's not really called for. Tonight (Matthew) I'm going to be that person.

Intel P4 2ghz
256mb rdram 800mhz
Ati Radeon 9600pro 128mb

Not the best but it's good enough :)

I'm waiting for the PCI express version of the NV40 fall refresh, so I can go all out and upgrade everything :) (and maybe run a couple of them NV48's in a dual setup)

why do u want the PCI Express stuff so soon? i mean i ain't gonna stop u or anything.. just that it takes new technology a good year to mature and stuff before it actually takes advantage of the extra/new things that older technology doesn't have.

anyway.. don't let my ramblings stop u from wasting ur money :)

Uhg.. Don't remind me :S I bought an optical mouse when they first started springin up... oh god *63 hurls

I built this comp to run HL2. :D

Pentium 4 2.96Ghz
OCZ 1GB DDR
9800 Pro

I need a new HD though.

Me too, I baugt a new PC just for Half Life, 2.4 is still fine, I just need to change my Nvidia G Force 4 64MB ; I'm now buying a 128MB FX

when getting pci express for the sake of gettin pci express, i agree, but the best reason to plan to get PCI express is for nvidia's SLI. thats all that pci express means to me anyways. :sniper: :dork:

Is your Pentium OC'd? Or what? Never seen a 2.9, but a 2.8 to be closest.

Having PCI Express stuff= Caddillac Escalade.

Ok, I'm not taking part in the poll fpr now, becuase my comp isn't ready yet, and might even not be by HL2's release.

However, my current specs are:
- 333mhz Intel Celeron
- 384mb RAM
- GeForce 2 MX400
- 20gb Hard drive

However, I just bought a new tower with:
- AMD Athlon XP3200 (2.2ghz)
- 512mb ddr pc2700 RAM
- Radeon 9200SE 128mb (Which I'm gonna up to a 9800pro!)
- 120gb 7200rpm hard drive

I think you'll agree the new system will handle HL2 to the max just fine, when it's finished. CAN'T WAIT! :D

We have jobs. It doesnt cost alot to upgrade your computer a piece at a time as it starts to lag behind the rest of your system.

People with rubbish computers were the ones holding back mods like day of defeat from super detailed and high res models. Its good to finally see games like UE3 giving games a kick up the ass.

Jobs nothing, I have a job. I also have bills. Apparently nobody else does.

For half life 2, dont buy an FX card, especially a lower end one. Get a 9800 pro.

Don't even bother trying to play HL2 with a 5600 or lower...

My comp should handle it fine. At first I was worried my pc2100 memory would really let me down, but I scrapped my fx5200 and bought one of those lovely, cheap, fx5900xtmajigarries and I'm benchmarking X2:the threat at a healthy 50fps with everything on full so i'm not too worried anymore (especially since I wont be bother about AA or AF).

my comp:
Athlon XP+2000
768MB PC2100 samsung DDR @ 266MHz
128MB XFX5900XT
80GB seagate HDD
MS-6382 mobo (proper poo may renew!)

My computer should be fine to run Half-Life 2 with pretty high details... I'm just wondering how high I can ramp up my resolution at full settings. I built this PC in August/September of 2003.

Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHz C w/HT
Intel PBZ Desktop Motherboard
2 sticks of 512MB PC3200 DDR
ATi Radeon 9800XT
Soundblaster Audigy 2
2 Western Digital 160GB, 8MB cache, 7200RPM
48x32x48 CDRW
Antec Sonota Case
21" Sony Trinitron CRT
Creative I-Trigue 2.1 Sound/Sennheiser headset

Dude you'll be able to run it at 8xAA & 16xAF and at 1600x1200.

Me:

nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (bah)
Athlon XP 2600+
1024 DDR ram
160gb HD

I'm planning on buying a machine in September with the following specs, in order to play HL2 and Doom 3 in all their glory.

Athlon 64 3800+
Radeon X800XT PE PCI-Express
1 gig Corsair XMS

Me:

ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
Athlon XP 1700+@2083mhz
512mb ddr ram
1x60gb ibm 1x70 gb WD

My system is acceptible, but I might end up upgrading my graphics card to the new Geforce 6800 (although it will probably be limited by my proccessor)

AMD Athlon 1800+ at 1.53ghz
512 mb's DDR 2700
KT333 Ultra
Geforce 3 ti 200
Soundblaster 16bit :p
19'' Moniter 1600*1200 @ 75 hz

That's very optimistic. Maybe you might be able to run it at 1600x1200 with 2x or no AA, but 8? No, especially considering the fact that ATi cards don't go up to 8x AA.

AMD athlon 2500+
512 DDR
ATi Radeon 9800
80 GB HD

Athlon tbred at 200*11
1gb ddr400
Radeon 9800 @ 450/690
hercules digifire
80gb hhd

i think ill be able to handle it lol

P4 3.4 EE
2 gb ram
geforce 6800 ultra
250GB wester digital 8mb cache *3
Creative Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS Platinum Pro High Definition 7.1
Bring on 1600*1200 :sniper:

Who the heck would by an overpriced EE processor? I bought a 2.4Ghz processor for $160 and it's at 2.96. If you bought a 2.8 you could OC it higher and less price.

PS. That's a kick-ass rig man. You shoulda bought Raptors though ;)

It had damn well BETTER. Since I had bought this PC last september specifically for Half-life 2 and Rome: Total War. Damn things got delayed... so I could have saved the cash for next year :(

Intel Pentium 4 2.8cghz 800mhz fsb with hyperthreading
1024 MB DDR 400 PC3200 Corsair RAM
ATI Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
Some crappy Soundblaster Live. I don't do the whole 'sound card' thing when upgrading my games.
Intel D865PERL motherboard.
Some Crappy speakers... once again, i'm not into the whole sound thing. My crappy speaker and sound card works just wonderfully.
120gb hard drive

Barton @ 2.5 gigs
1 gig pc3200 Geil Golden Dragon
Asus A7N8X deluxe rev. 2.0
9800 pro

I want to play with max settings at 1024*768 with a frame rate that doesn't drop below 45, but ideally stays in the 60's.

then i'd say leave antialiasing off all together and put the water and lighting quality to medium if you want a 55-65 fps as those two things take up the most resources

I'm not too fussed about AA/AF etc, but hate to compromise on all the fancy effects.

If the frame rate drops into the 30's i'll probably have a girly fit and buy a 6800 gt (and end up eating beans on toast for the next few months :/)

Yah, your right. I just need to find a better job. :-/ mine really bite's.
I need a skills job.

I hope mine will run it ok.

Athlon XP 2.08 Ghz Barton 2800+
OCZ 512MB PC-3200 Dual Channel EL DDR
Geforce 4 TI 4200 128 DDR
*Western Digital 80 GB
*Western Digital 160 GB

I think I'll upgrade my video card at Christmas if I don't run HL2 very well. Even if I don't I might still.

Unless I find something else better to ask for by then.

EDIT: *I didn't know everyone was posting HD size.
