So it looks like they are back fighting (again) and lots of people are getting killed: http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/12/28/gaza.israel.strikes/index.html

Now what pisses me off is that the Bush administration is taking the side of Israel and saying that it's justified because Gaza attacked them first. That's like a kid getting into a fight at school over a toy and the teacher watching (and providing weapons to the boy) because the other boy took his toy in the first place.

There should be no favoritism because they are both at fault including the USA. Plus it's also terrorism but the USA protected Pakistan after the terror attacks in India. Even more scary is that Obama is supporting Israel as well. Personally I think America has had it with them fighting and just wish that Israel takes over Pakistan by brute force.

You seem to be forgetting that while the United States funds Israel, the only stable ally they have in the region, the Arab states fund Hamas, Hezbolla, etc. It's a proxy war, in addition to a religious and ethnic conflict. There's also a shitty cycle of violence that will never stop, as the two sides literally despise each other.

"Personally I think America has had it with them fighting and just wish that Israel takes over Pakistan by brute force."

They did during the 6 Day War and found out that it's impossible to control such a large population and landmass. But American politicians are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Israel is THE ONLY stable ally in the region and they sure as hell wont let them get overrun, but they also cant be seen as Israel's bitch, allowing themto do anything they want.

Another side of the story is that Hamas has been shelling Israel for a few days prior to these attacks, and there was no counter-attack. As a nation, Israel has a duty to protect its citizens. On a side note, I'm noticing that there was no international outrage by these Hamas missile incidents.

All in all it's a shitty scenario that has been ongoing since before I was born and will continue to go on after I kick the bucket.

Just let em fight. Let em duke it out like kids on a playground.

I couldn't believe how skewed the coverage of this was on yesterday evening's RTE news here in Ireland.

I had missed an earlier bulletin (possibly from another channel) where it showed footage of those wounded or bereaved in the strikes, and I had no idea of the death toll, so once the headlines came on in the evening I stuck around expecting to be brought up to date. Well... there was no estimate of Palestinian casualties given at all, nor was there any footage of the human devastation. That sounds unbelievable, and it now makes me suspect I may have missed something or gone temporarily deaf and blind, but since that was what I was specifically watching the news for, I don't think I would have missed it. What they did mention was the one Israeli killed in the rocket attacks - and in case we didn't get the message, they also showed him in a bodybag on a stretcher. I only found out the estimate of 200+ after asking my mum, who had seen other news reports.

Seriously, what kind of ****ing pathetic reporting is that.

The reason the US supports Israel is far more sinister than people think. The Christian right believes that the Children of Israel, the Jews, have to be to be in the Holy Land during the second coming of Christ, which is soon to happen. With its excessive lobby activity, they have managed to get these fantasies into practice in the American foreign policy. Scary stuff.

If Israel believes massive bomb raids will somehow make the Palestinian population more favourable towards them they're mad. This will only increase Hamas' support on the Gaza Strip and the entire Middle East. Imagine if you're a 14-year-old Palestinian boy. All your life you have seen Israeli aggression towards your people and your neighbourhood (sometimes magnified by propaganda, sometimes not). Wouldn't you be inclined to join a movement that claims to want to put an end to Israel's attacks?

There's a documentary about this somewhere. It's pretty terrifying. While I wouldn't characterise every single person in the administration as sympathising with these views, Sarah Palin is one example of how far insane Christian fundamentalism can get in American politics (ie. within an inch of the very top).

EDIT: Found the documentary I was thinking of: The Doomsday Code, with Tony Robinson.
There's also The Israel Lobby, which is not so much about the influence of the American religious right that Monkey mentioned, but it still has a lot of detail about the influence of AIPAC, etc.

Put a huge dome over the area and leave them to destroy each other.

Or better yet, the United Nations should invade, remove everyone from Israel and Palestine, resettle the Israeli's in the west, the Palestinians all around the area, and then start the process of dismantling the hoyl land.

I mean straight up put an end to it.

Bomb, dig, whatever, destroy the place until the sea rushes in.

No more Israeli's, no more Palestinians, no more crazed patch of desert which drives men mad, just sea.

Peaceful. Serene.

if that fails, we could still try Viagra...but hell...both sides are probably so up tight about their religious beliefs i doubt it would have any effect...i'm fearing it's a lost case

Israel vs Gaza (The Arab radical Muslims)

Israel is defending itself from DAILY rocket attacks that terrorize it's population EVERY day.
Does anyone, in their right mind, think the US would tolerate even If just one rocket were launched from a dissident group in Canada or Mexico? We would be all over them in the correct response of defending our country.

Just a few years after the near extermination of Jews in Europe, by the Nazis, the Arabs combined forces and attacked the newly formed state of Israel with the same intent of exterminating the new Jewish State.

Israel is a tiny Nation. It is ranked 153rd in land size compared to other countries. Arabs/Muslims want the Jews to be driven out of even this miniscule area. But does anyone question the 300 million Arabs in the countries that surround 5 million Jews about creating an independant Palestine carved out from Arab countries. The existing Arab nations will have no part of that. In contrast the US provided Native Indians, displaced by government actions, with self goverened private reservations for their own use, albiet not so great land.

Palestine is only the description given to a geographical area; which has not been a nation since Israel was conquered by Rome in 70 A.D.
Even after the Roman defeat in 70 A.D. the Jews never vacated the Holy Land.
The area known as Palestine covered areas both East and West of the Jordan; and the Arabic-speaking people there thought of themselves as Syrians, Turks, or simply "Arabs"... but never as "Palestinians".

By terrorising the Palestinian population even worse?

1 wrong + 1 huge wrong != 1 right

I forgot that the best thing to ask ourselves in this situation is 'what would America do?' So you're saying that America, like Israel, would overreact and kill countless innocents in another territory after being attacked on its home turf?

...yeah, I guess we already knew that, never mind.
In contrast the US provided Native Indians, displaced by government actions, with self goverened private reservations for their own use, albiet not so great land.
Now that's true, it's WELL known how kind America has been to Native Americans.

Of course!! All nationalities conceived after some unspecified date in the past are invalid. BRILLIANT

get your ass out here zionazi scum

Like I said, remove everyone from the Holy Land and sink it beneath the waves in cleansing atomic clouds of purifying light, and then sigh in relief as it never assaults human decency again.

We should probably glass the Vatican and Mecca to.

Again, politics aren't for everyone. I'd highly doubt members of a gaming forum would have full knowledge of an affair to have a well-formed opinion. But luckily, they're still entitled to their own opinion ;). Thats my philosophy of the day. Tune in next time.

Pssh, we'd do quite fine with our own country. Dontcha think? With pi as our totalitarian dictator noone would mess with us.

Well this situation is ****ed up.

Is everyone here forgetting that Hamas broke a truce? Get this "THEY'RE the evil ones for returning fire!" garbage out of here.

And then Israel started bombing civilians in what is basically a huge open air prison, whats your point?.

We could throw the blame stick back and forth all the way back to prehistory, it wouldn't justify anything or change anything. Both sides have their share of blame.

Because obviously the Isrealis are so careful with their bombings, they only attack those nasty Hamas members...no civilians are ever hurt.

GTFO.

That'd be fine if I didn't find the constant violence there actually crushing my faith in humanity, not to mention that while it continues the news and international diplomacy cant seem to discuss anything else.

Except that Hamas HAS fired many rockets before hand into Israel, harming the civilian population.... Shit, what am i doing. I'm sorry, i can't take this place seriously, we should have a 'Home economics and Cooking' section in these forums while we're ahead :p. I'm done, see ya in the gaming sections.

israel was keeping a blockade in gaza due to the rockets attack

hamas keep shooting rockets due to the blockade, israel keep the blockade due to the rockets so it was obvious this was going to happen

The Isrealis have been planning this for a long time. Reports I've seen indicate they've been tracking down Hamas stockpiles, HQs, etc for six months or more. They've been employing precision munitions against known targets. However, the Gaza strip is very densly populated and civilian casualties are unaviodable. Hamas know this and are more than prepared to hide amoungst the civilians they are supposed to protect (as they're the government these days) at best and using them as human shields at worst.

The Isrealis are not bombing civilians, at least not intentionally. Sadly, civilian casualties are a certainty of war and in Gaza a particularly frequent one. While these unfortunate incidents are indeed occuring, the IDF are a long, long way from the wholesale carpet bombing of the strip that some of you seem to be suggesting.

"We're sorry for what your people went through in WW2, but here's a patch of dirt in the middle of nowhere for you guys to settle in.
You might have to bomb the shit out of the folks already living there, but they're not real people, just arabs. Lol." - Western World

the Palestinians have every right to resist their occupiers:

UN Charter said:
(UN Charter art. 51) (6). The right to resist finds application within the framework of the right of legitimate defense because "a state which forcibly subjugates a people to colonial or alien domination is committing an unlawful act as defined by international law, and the subject people, in the exercise of its inherent right of self-defense, may fight to defend and attain its right to self-determination."

the hypocrisy here is that israel says it's attacking hamas for their rocket attacks yet many of the rocket attacks are in retaliation for precieved injustices or assasination of palestians by security forces

500 + ppalestian civilans killed (including 28 children) over 2000 injured. In comparison 5 israeli soldiers have been killed ...3 by friendly fire

Honestly, kill the Palestinians.

The way their food, water, and other humanitarian aide gets blocked I'm sure most of them will be dead pretty soon. I mean shit, isn't half of their population already under the age of 16?

then the problem will be soon solved.

maybe we could move on from this old worn out conflict to a newer and fresher one...maybe the native americans should start rocketing new york, that might get interesting :p
according to the UN they have every right to do so
