If you clicked on this thread expecting a blonde sexy heavy-built russian to rock your world, you clicked the wrong god damn thread. This is about IVAN the game, where you venture into an underground oceanic tunnel, slip on bananas, and constantly (notice: CONSTANTLY) lose your limbs.

The game is a 2D Dwarffortress-adventuremode-type of a game. Its hilarious because of the random nature of the text narration. So download it and tell us how your inevitable limbless death was.

Your body glows in a crimson light. You transform into a two-headed moose

Oh yes, I saw this on /v/. I've been meaning to download it.

No, you mean it's a roguelike.

DF adventure mode is a hastily-made homage to roguelikes tacked on to the main game. It doesn't have quests more basic than 'kill the monster.'

Ivan doesn't seem any different from older (better?) roguelikes. It just has a sense of humour, I guess?

As for limb losing, the greatest game is, now and forever, Die by the Sword.

Seems like a pretty typical Roguelike. If you want to try some similar games, the "big" ones are Nethack and Stone Soup. These have both been around for a while and are pretty deep now, which also means they're quite complex and have a steep learning curve, but then part of the appeal is replaying and discovering new things.

There's also Desktop Dungeon, which is more of a puzzle game in roguelike shoes, but it seems kind of neat.

Man you guys are all so late to the party, I played IVAN back before the original development team stopped working on it.

It's quite fun, though very unforgiving, haven't played the latest versions so dunno if they've made it easier.

Linley's Dungeon Crawl was also quite fun, Stone Soup is based of it.

It had a lot of fun Gods, that would do real crazy shit, depending on the God you selected of-course.

Viper, the big thing about limbs in IVAN is that you can attach new limbs from other creatures and make new limbs, that can have various effects on your character.:p

If one's into roguelikes one really should try IVAN.
