I've played the Wii and......

If you plan on ever connecting to Xbox Live whatsoever, you save a lot more money by going Premium. For $100 more, you get the HDD ($100 on its own), a wireless controller instead of a wired one, and a headset, so you save something like $50-70.

Also, when I went to pick up Gears, I noticed that there was an empty and folded Wii retail box behind the counter (they didn't even make an attempt to hide it :p), and there were two big UPS boxes at the very back of the store. Naturally, I put two and two together and deduced that my EB not only has a Wii, but also two very big boxes from UPS.

Unfortunately I have other bills so my my funds are limited, im allso using my discount at the store I work at allong with a gift card for my birthday. So I will barely get by with a core system, if I can scrape the extra cash then I would consider it.

Half-Life is a gem... a game like it doesn't come out usually. It comes out ****ing never.

Haven't read the whole tread but I'll buy a Wii anyway...
Maybe I'll never unpack it.
I'll buy it because they are the only company that keeps on reinventing themselfs. It's the most innovative gaming-console (and cheapest) outthere and they are lightyears ahead. I always swore to never buy a console but now I'll buy one just to say f*3k you to Microsoft and Sony.
I don't care that the graphics are not as good as the other two nor the small games-catalogue (for the moment that is).

Embrace innovation, punish those who keep selling us the same crap in a new packaging.

CoD3 looks good graphics. It's not next gen but it's better than a lot of stuff I've seen on the PC.

Half-Life.

Always an exception to every rule. Plus I dont think it was as great as most people here thought it was. The mod scene was what made the game. Hell, I didnt even beat the singleplayer until after I had played day of defeat for 2 years.

I got Wii + Zelda + CoD3 + Extra Controller/Numchuck for £300 at Game.

So I went and baught a 360 pro version lol I had a bigger check then I thought, anyways I hooked it up to me hdtv and it gave me a error so I figured I prolly should try reconecting all the cables, same thing happened so I took off the hard drive and tried it without it and it worked fine then I put it back and it didnt work, then I tried putting the hdd on agian and then it finally worked. Had me scared there that I had to take it back which I hate doing.

There's a tiny little switch at the base of the cable plug, that lets you switch from "TV" to "HDTV" :)

Cheapest I've found in the UK is Argos. Wii Console + £10 of any £39.99 game.
So thats 179.99 + 29.99 = £209.98 for Wii + Any game.

Or you get £20 off two games.

I got mine from Gameplay though. I got Wii + Zelda + Wii Play with the extra remote included. Might as well pay a fiver extra and get a load of mini games to play. Was going to buy a second controller anyway.

This guy played for awhile and loved the system.
I just got back from playing Wii at my local Gamestop, and all I can say is, it's more then what i expected. I played Excite truck, and it's just so much fun. It's like this is how games were meant to be played. It's so intuitive to drive the vehicles, and tilt your car in the air. The accelerometers work perfect. At first I had a problem with steering, but only later to figure out I was doing it wrong. Your supposed to tilt the controller side to side and not rotate it.. .drrrr. But I also explored the main menu and made a mii character, and it works better then a mouse imo. It's very very easy to move the hand around the screen and select stuff.

I found it works best to stand about 6-8 feet away from the sensor bar when using the IR part of the controller. But if you are using the acceleromter only, it works anyway. Also, I didnt realize sounds were comming from the controller while playing Excite truck at first. Mostly because it sounded of higher quality, and not mono or grainy or anything. I just am fully satisfied with it so far, and I CANNOT wait to get it next Satuday at midnight and start playing zelda.

You can pre-order games from Game? *panics* I haven't. Only the console. Did you go to the shop yesterday and pick up your pre-order pack? I forgot.

40quid for a game seems a bit much.

That le sucks.

I won't be getting.

300 quid for a console and 3 games and an extra controller.

Compared to ... *calculates*

Over 700 quid for the same deal for PS3. Or 450 for the 360.

I just got done playing it for the first time myself, and I must say; I'm impressed. The Wii console is very small, (much smaller in person then in pictures) and the Wii Remote is alot smaller then I expected. I tried out Excite Truck, which you simply turn the Wiimote on it's side and use it as a steering wheel; and it worked great. (Came in first place on my first race ever.) I also went to the Wii channels and pointed around, and the point functionality is very responsive, and works great. The little speaker on the remote itself sounded pretty loud and decent as well. (Basically just "dinged" when you got a turbo or boost.) The graphics were decent, I'd say a little better then Gamecubes, but the Wiimote just made it alot of fun. The remote is so tiny, and well shaped. Rumble worked good as well. Overall, my first experience with the Wii was a very good one. Everything worked like I expected it to, and some things better then I thought they would. One more week guys, I can't wait.

Got to play 4 Wii games today ^_^

Wii Sports
I only got to play tennis but it was quite fun. I got confused as to which player I was once or twice (swinging the remote and seeing who swings on screen is an easy way to fix this) but the game is quite smiple. Just swing the remote at the right moment. There was 4 of use playing a doubles match and we got some good vollies going.

Excite Trucks
You stear the truck by tilting the remote, this is very hard to get used to and I spent much of my time crashing into trees. This game is f*cking crazy and would probably be good with a few mates (once you learn how to stear the damn trucks that is). Also, people amaze me. I was playing the game when suddenly a guy standing next to me pointed out that you shouldn't be able to steer in mid-air. Did he even notice the cars jumping 100 foot into the air, turboing, crashing and teleporting back onto the track fully repared?

Rayman
Played a cow throwing minigame...what...the...****.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes
Played the demo dungeon. Great fun. Swordfighting was fun and the Z targeting from OoT returnes but this time you get to swing the sword yourself ^_^. Aiming was a bitch, much harder than any FPS, PC or console or any lightgun game I have played. This is probably down to 3 factors: My inexperience, my distance from the screen, the badly configured remote (the aim was far above and to the left of where you where aiming). The game seemed to freeze for a second when using the spin attack (shake the nun-chuck basicly), whether this was an effect or just a stutter it looked kinda cool. I think the graphics of this game and the Wii in general have been underrated be alot of people. Even if it's not as flashy as Gears of War it looks great.

I also played Splinter Cell multiplayer on the Xbox 360. I was a spy and 2 out of the 3 people who I was against where idiots. For those that don't know the multiplayer works as follows: up to 3 spies and 3 mercenaries fight. The spies play in 3rd person and must climb, sneak and jump around to steal files. They have no guns but night and thermo vision goggles and magic hacking gloves that alow them to break glass and lightbulbs and to hack doors and computers. The objective of the spies to to hack 2 out of 4 of the computer terminals and to bring the files back to the base. The mercs have assault rifles, grenades, flashlights and goggles that alow them to see when spies are using any gadgets. Only 1 of the 3 mercs I was fighting had an IQ above single-didget. They killed the intellegent one (Who I was standing next to) 5 times while we where playing. At one point I was hacking the blue terminal and the 2 of them came up and started pumping lead into the terminal and completly ignoring me. I eventually had to run when the smart guy showed up. We lost the first match (the smart one was very good) but won the second (It was only me and the smart guy left, I guess the others blew themselves up or something and it took so long that all but 1 other player left the game :p)

I also saw Borat. All in all, this was a pretty awesome day.

Did you hit something with the spin attack? 'Cause in WW when you hit something with the spin attack it paused for a second to show the hit. I guess it's the same in TP. Doubt there would be slowdown from an attack.

No shit :)

The little pause when link does his spin attack is normal btw - just for added effect.

I don't expect Zelda to blow me away visually (it still looks pretty damn good), but do expect to be so engrossed within 5 minutes of starting that any concern about the graphics will be long forgotten.

Lucky for me I've got connections to a guy in retail. I should obtain a wii approximately opening day, sans lineups.

Unless I get one for Christmas (They look like they'll all be getting sold out anyway) I'll pick one up in the post Christmas sales.

So is it in a lot of gamestop's now? I see more and more people being able to play it in their local gamestop

Just pre-ordered my Wii.

First Nintendo console I've bought since the N64, not including the GBA. My brother has a Gamecube, so I just bought Zelda for it then borrowed his GC.

It wasn't at Gamestop, it was at an event in Dublin called "Toys 4 Big Boys". There was a tank, and cars, and the Wii and friendly girls who couldn't afford much clothes or food.

Yep, you can pre-order games.

Exactly Reg. I was abit shocked at the controller price... £40 but it does have a speaker and movement sensor technology stuff. So if you think about it, without Wii sports and a Controller, the actual console would be like £100. :O

Yeah theres a FarCry game comin out for the Wii

Just recently played the Wii at my local Gamestop and... blegh.

Granted, the only available demo was some racing game (a genre I abhor), but it just felt extremely loose and unresponsive. I kept crashing into obstacles and would speed straight off course for over-shooting my turns. Didn't see any way to adjust it, so I just ended up getting annoyed.
Of course, it doesn't help that my nerves are shot and doing something as simple as entering my name on the virtual keyboard is a twitchy, time-consuming affair. Console clearly isn't for the spaz-prone.

I'll wait for a few more titles to pass judgment, but I doubt this thing is ever going to click with me. Its lineup doesn't really do any favors either.

While I haven't played it I believe your only suppose to tilt the controller and not really move it.

But you can adjust sensitivity and calibration of the controller on the Wii.

I understood how to control it. I just found it to be a pain in the ass.

Also, at the risk of getting leaped on by ravenous fans... the visuals really look last-gen. I mean it's actually kind of painful when I've just taken a break from playing Gears of War. No, graphics do not make a game. But they are important to me regardless. Taking that step backwards is kind of awkward.

It's not a step backwards.

Yep, you can pre-order games.

The pack is just a little checklist of launch games and items apparently. I still haven't picked it up. I don't think I really need it.

I may go in on Monday to pre-order Zelda though. And probably a couple more. Luckily I get lots of birthday money over the next few days. :bounce:

I've all but decided that I'm not going to get it at least until SSBB comes out. I'll be just fine playing Twilight Princess on my Gamecube, I can wait to play Metroid Prime 3, and the other titles coming out for it just don't interest me that much. I actually sort of want an XBOX360 now, considering the buzz GoW is getting.

I'd find it very hard to choose between a Wii and 360 right now. GoW and Zelda - I haven't been this excited for any games for quite a while now.
