Anybody can't wait until dinner tonight when whoever says grace thanks jesus for our dinner when it was my grandma and her sister who slaved in the Kitchen for hours?
Also the funny thing is I know my Grandpa is actually an Atheist yet he swears that living by the the tenants of the Bible people lead a better life (partially true) and my Dad who is the reason that I didn't grow up wit religious pressure is encouraging my sister to go to Church now and what not.He says that she will figure it out by herself. She's been to bible camp twice now I'm thourghly convinced she drank the kool aid and is a lost cause.

small rant, I know anybody else fed up little with some family members?

So, you're an atheist and you don't like Christianity or people pushing it upon others. Join the majority of the population !

I like your reasoning that because someone believes in something you don't that they are a lost cause....... surely all that matters is that they are happy as they are ?

I'm fed up with my brother promising to go halves on stuff then not getting a freaken job (eg. xbox 360).
I know it's my fault for spending the money before he has it but I really wanted an xbox. Now I'm down $226 while I wait for him to get some money.

Smaller rant ;)

but jesus was the one cooking; grandma was just the vessel through which Jesus used his culinary powers. it's kinda like this idea:

Imagine if Jesus had been a conjoined twin, and his brother was a foul-mouthed heroin and cocaine addict.
Also what's with the skull.

He does drugs, so he uses guns to shoot people, then keeps their head. People who do drugs are BAD.

This is a country where people are able to do whatever the hell they want, so when someone says grace, you have every right to not join in and dig in while their dumb asses are waiting for their imaginary friend's approval.

They aren't dumbasses, I just like that phrase.

Though, tbh, I wouldn't do that... But Thanksgiving is about thanking the Indians for helping the settlers with food and all that stuff when they came to this land. They would have all died without the INDIANS, not without God. Why people thank GOD on thanksgiving blows my mind, because it's not about him. It's about the good will of a people who were turned upon by the most intolerant of people. Not about how Jesus saved is 2000 years ago. The Indians saved is 300 years ago, and that's what this holiday is about.

"JESUS GAVE IS DIS FUDZ!"

No, The farmers of the American midwest gave you this food. As did Walmart, the truck drivers, Shnucks, Shop & Save... Wherever the hell you went. Jesus is not in this transaction.

"WE MUST THNX JEBUS FOR DEES FUDZ!"

Okay. Pick up the fork. Alright, now take some food. Okay, now put the fork in your mouth... Chew and swallow the food. HUH... WHERES JESUS?!

/real rant

yeah I'm starting to hate the phrase God did this. I'm pretty sure we're doing more than we think

we dont give thanks to the Indians because they were slaughtered shortly after the first thanksgiving day

also, this thread is wrong:

"The first Thanksgiving was celebrated to give thanks to God for helping the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony survive the brutal winter"

be a good little patriotic american and praise your lord and master Jesus H Christ

Time for you to give thanks to chance that you got food to eat boy.

Regardless, the so-called separation of church and state does not exist here. We're like Greece. Just a lot stupider. :/

It's a shame that everything has to be about God anymore... "GOD IS EVERYTHING AND EVERYWHERE YOU JUST CANT SEE HIM STAND STILL AND YOU MIGHT FEEL HIM" No, that's my brain going numb because this is STUPID! Here in America we embrace stupidity as god's will, therefor we all can be stupid, and do idiotic things. At the same time, though, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, so I can either fall in line, or be part of the revolution... Where's my V costume...

God gave us the indians, the crops, the farmers, the walmarts and the truck drivers. He also gave us that fork. Thats where jesus is. In the fork.

I always thought thanking God for our material gain was kinda silly... what does God care for things? God, in my mind, cares about love, and friendship and all that other sappy stuff we humans live off of. But when surrounded by friends and family I see nothing silly about thanking God for those we love. No, God may not have put them there... but who cares? We love all this sentimental spiritual stuff.

Also. The majority of the people in the world believe in some god or another.

There is a difference between being a religious people and separation of church and state. If the president says grace at his table, that is NOT and violation of church and state.... Allowing a church to collect taxes or declaring one denomination as the only legitimate religion is.

My whole (immediate) family are Agnostics so I don't have this problem.. Even my other family member are barely religious, they're the type who just believes God exists, and leave it at that, they never talk about it or go to church or say grace or whatever.

Honestly the subject of religion never gets brought up around here.

My entire family is Christian or [doesn't care either way].

You guys are pussies.

It's worth noting that the food is the flesh of Christ and the wine is the blood of Christ, in a totally true and non-symbolic manner.

That's stupid, wine is a creation of man, the flesh thing I understand, but to get wine you gotta make it.. It would make sense if they said water or apple juice or something, but wine you gotta ferment and all that bullshit.

it's worth noting that jesus may have been black.

Oh, I love you Stern.

As long as we're getting technical...

Thank the plague that wiped out nearly all of the inhabitants of the Native American village that the Pilgrims were then able to take over in order to survive!

MMM TURKEY!

My entire family except my immediate family are hardcore Catholics. My parents consider themselves catholic still, my siblings are either agnostic or believe in god without the religion. I am the only Atheist in my family.

You're a pussy.

God made everything, so as Krynn said he made Walmart, Indians and stuff. God is everywhere, and he is watching everyone.

So you're mad because people don't believe in what you believe?

I don't think that was a gist of his post. It seems he's disgruntled with the fact that thanks is being given where it isn't due and not where it is. You can believe that God is somehow responsible for providing the food, but that doesn't mean someone else hasn't cooked and prepared it and actually worked hard like us mere mortals have to.

I struggled for a long time in my life because many people around me, in my school and my church would very quickly chalk my achievements up to God. It was very disheartening, because on the other hand all of my failings most definitely were my fault. If you succeed it's because God made it so, and if you fail, it's because you didn't do what God wanted you to do.

It's enough to make you give up. So much for free will.

Exactly what I've said to religious people.

My grandparents are both depressed and unhealthy. I love them, but it makes me sad. :(

Kind of this.

I think happiness as the ultimate goal in life has led to some very sad and unfulfilling lives. We should definitely move past the notion that personal happiness is the greatest good.

Usually when saying grace, we pray for the person who prepared the food to be blessed and also thank them in prayer.

After that when enjoying the meal, we commend the cooking of the preparer. Is there any wrong in that?
