Here, in mass and whenever God is discussed (Christianity, I'm talking about here), it is God who is discussed. Jesus is more of a minor figure and is the son and messenger of God. You pray to God, not Jesus and it is God's word that you listen to. Jesus was the one who spoke it, but it is God's word.

In America it seems to all about Jesus. You pray to Jesus and talk about Jesus and hear the word of Jesus. There even seems to be this notion that you should be friends with Jesus and he should be your close pal (That idea usually considered fairly silly here).

Is this a Protestant thing or is it just an American thing? What way is it in other parts of the world?

In before "God sucks atheism ftw lol".

As far as I know the protestant churches generally focus more on Jesus than God compared to the Catholics/Orthodox/Coptics etc. Born Again's most of all.

If everyone follows the rules, God would kick Jesus' ass. But in a street fight my money would be on Jesus, hands down.

Just demonstrates what an ungrateful asshole Jesus is...he takes all the credit for God's teachings.

I thought jesus was God, who sent himself in human form, to die for human sin to please himself.

the Jesus thing seems to come from the 'No one can come to the Father except through me'. there are so many variations of doctrine however that i think most of the time man makes them self serving. i dont agree that 'in America' its all about Jesus. Maybe that is the impression you get, but its not true far as i can tell. i dont think there is anything wrong with prayer or focus to God or Jesus, even the Bible says they are one in the same.

God couldn't even watch Jesus's back when he got jumped by the romans. I think god is rollin with a new crew.

Jesus IS god in the Christian faith.

Can anyone explain the difference in theological doctrines of Catholics and mainstream Protestants, it's always confused me.

Holy trinity: Father, son, holy spirit. God is all three at once. Yes it gets confusing.

the trinity is doctrine in all christian sects after the nicene creed was imposed.

except for unitarians.

Virgin Mary, Forgiveness of sins, importance of Saints, nature of the eucharist - off the top of my head.

Most of the other original differences such as Catholic mass always being in Latin ended with Vatican II (Attack of the Clones).

Alot of people don't get what I'm trying to say. I'm not saying one way is superior to the other or talking about any theological difference. I know the concept of the Trinity (my school is named after it) and all that. I'm just remarking, with interest, how the name of who is worshiped changes with geography.

I think it's due to Protestant interpretation of the King James Bible, but I'm not sure. I do know protestant churches in general focus more on Jesus.

I was hoping for like a Boxing Poster with Jesus V God. Like that Darwin V God thing floating somewhere on the net...

Jesus = God...I don't know why there would be emphasis in different parts of the world. I treat them as equals.

How can he be his own son, and why would he send himself to be crucified, he also talked to himself a lot, referring to himself as father, what a nutter.

This is the reason I stopped believing in God, the Jesus/God crucification story, never made any sense to me.

16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
He sent him to prove that he loves us, or something. Have you even read the Bible? Also, when Jesus died he went down to hell and kicked Satan in the shin or something. :|

I believe Protestants focus more on Jesus than Catholics or the Orthodox, yes.

What's up with the Holy Spirit, BTW?

IIRC, Mary didn't originally agree to this.

MARY WAS RAPED! TO THE CRIME MOBILE!

(But seriously, I thought that the Christian Faith viewed Jesus as God himself, though I don't know much about said religion.)

Jesus = Human Form of God. It's very complicated. The Holy Spirit is the one that floats around all omnipotent and infills you with holiness.
Or something.

People generally pray to God whenever they want something done about the universe as a whole, like chance events or crops or weather patterns, etc. People generally pray to Jesus whenever they want something done about their soul or their personality, and they pray to the "holy spirit" whenever they want a celebration or ritual or their own personal joy to be sanctioned by God.

In America, Jesus is a common object of veneration because America comes from a very protestant background, in which Jesus is venerated as the "personal" god, while God himself is something of a cosmic janitor, with the Holy Spirit as an eerie "presence" of god.

Christian doctrine treats all of these as the same thing, so that they can avoid any hint of polytheism. But really all of this is just apologetic garbage. The church uses the doctrine of the trinity and all of these gibberish explainations to eliminate the obvious contradictions of the bible, (i.e, God rapes Mary, essentially his own mother, to be born, to die, to forgive his own creations by sacrificing himself, and then becomes some sort of ghost to tell everyone about himself dying and becoming a cosmic Jewish zombie...)

I've read the bible, I went to church nearly every Sunday for about 15 years.

As far as I understand it, God sent Jesus to earth to tell everyone about salvation etc., I understand that. Then Jesus is crucified by the Romans, in order to save everyone from there sins, as God forgave everyone because the Romans killed Jesus, then Jesus came back to life, this part makes no sense to me at all.

Actually, the Jews killed Jesus, becuase they thought he was threatening them in some way. The Romans didn't give a shit one way or the other. He came back to life to prove to the disciples that it had been done and to tell them what to do after he left again.

Jesus is his own father.

He went back in time with Doc Brown and impregnated his mother in a drunken all nighter binge.

And Biff is Lucifer.

Trinity.

God=Jesus=Holy Spirit.

NO QUESTIONS, AT LEAST POST THEM TO SOMEONE ELSE. *Screams and runs and kicks stigmata in the balls*

It's just God has so much work to do that he splits himself. God gets to play around with earth, Jesus dies for people, and the holy spirit messes with people's lives. XD

Well, pontious pilate was the Roman authority in Jerusalem at the time, so technically the Romans did (if Jesus ever existed) crucify him. The Bible says that the Jewish priests in Jerusalem were wanting to crucify Jesus because he was 1. Teaching heresy and 2. Building up a group of militant followers.

It was fairly common in those days actually. There were several doomsday sects popping up in Judea and demanding a messiah from the prophecy of Isaiah to lead an army against the Romans and bring back traditional rule. Cults began appearing with leaders attempting to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah and calling themselves names like "Messiah", "Emmanuel", "Prince of Peace", etc. Most of them were crucified or killed in battle, because both the Romans and the Pharisees considered them dangerous rebels. Jesus (if he was a single, real person), was just one of the many Messianic cult leaders attempting to fulfill the prophecy who were killed by the authorities.

God is, "K e r b e r o s."
