Kotick Shenanigans

Man, this has the potential to be a well written, compelling game, with varied and enjoyable gameplay.

lololol

Only kidding, I always give something a chance before I hate it.

Too bad Activision won't do the same. Game has no chance.

They could poop in a box and scrawl modern warfare on the front of it with their bloody stool and sell a dixmillion.

They should make this into a game. Call Of Duty: Corporate Warfare.

This is a chain reaction and it's not going to end with Infinity Ward.
Just wait and see till it spills over to their other development studios. Activision may have made a profit with this game but this fiasco is going to leave a huge dent in their reputation.

Reputation...

I have a feeling the next Modern Warfare will outsell MW2. Most casual fans won't know much about this whole fiasco.

DemonWare, High Moon, Radical, Raven, Sledgehammer, few others...I can see this being bad/good.

Are any of these developers anybody cares about? Do you think the average gamer could even name one of them?

Do you think it matters what the average gamer knows about when Activision's dev studios dry up of all their experienced developers?

If the average gamer can't name any of theose studios they need to suck a dick.

**** the average gamer. Average gamers like average games.

Think of the children.

Hahahahahahahaha! Wow. This is either really smart or really stupid. I think I know which...:O

Bungie is starting a new IP right? Or else we are going to see a Halo game every six months.

I had a little respect for Bungie, now it's all gone.

Oh wow. Activision is really trying to redeem their losses.

Hahahaha, gamers lose.

They lost their COD and just traded it out with the Halo guys. GG.

Official announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops

http://www.vg247.com/2010/04/30/call-of-duty-black-ops-announced-releases-on-november-9/

If the rumours were right about black ops then it will be PARTLY set in vietnam then.

Eh, it could be completely set in Indochina. The crap that units like MACV SOG pulled, particularly the "over the fence" (ie operations of questionable legality carried out in Cambodia, Laos and North Vietnam with "sanitized" weapons and complete denial from the US govt.) operations are still considered pretty "black"

If it isn't, it'll probably devolve into a cheap MGS3 knock-off with the player blasting bolsheviks in Belarus left and right.

Yeah, I imagine they will take the black ops all over the world as we have done IRL. :) Makes for a more fun and diverse game, but I am getting a little sick of the over-saturation of warlike FPS games. Need some more outside-the-box thinking imho.

From the GAME website:

"Now you will witness the birth of the Elite Special Forces and take part in off-the-record missions using unconventional weaponry to get the job done! From Cuba to the Arctic and the jungles of Vietnam, Call of Duty: Black Ops features stunning cinematic graphics and intense gameplay that puts you right at the heart of the action!"

Hmm, I quite like the idea. VG247 linked to this article which in hindsight appears to be true, and especially this part sounded like a great premise for a vidyagame:

The report states the game, being developed by Treyarch, will take place in various times in history during the Cold War, from World War II to up to present day, with missions in Vietnam, Cuba, South America and even the infamous SAS mission during the Iranian embassy siege in London in April 1980.

Cold War ftw.

Citing "people familiar with the situation," the LA Times story says, "...the publicly released terms of the Bungie deal are similar to the one that former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vincent Zampella were seeking before talks broke down and they were fired for alleged breach of contract in attempting to form their own company."

West and Zampella's attorney, Bobby Schwartz, was quoted as saying, "It's astonishing how much money Activision had to pay to cover up its horns and pitchforks with a halo."

Sounds pretty cool, can't wait to see more.

even the infamous SAS mission during the Iranian embassy siege in London in April 1980.

If they do this mission right then I will lay down money for this game.

I have nothing for Activison.

I can see this going one of two ways:

1. Depict it somewhat accurately, but make it one of those barely interactive cutscenes that COD is full of where your commander tells you exactly what you'll face and exactly when to shoot, to give the illusion that you're a super elite special forces commando guy.

2. Turn an operation that was known for its speed, precision, and coordination into a twenty minute long shooting gallery where you single-handedly take down 10,000 terrorists and blow up half of London in the process.

Christ, Kotick is such an evil ****. I sincerely hope they trip themselves up somehow in the near future and fall out of the lead, but it seems unlikely given how much momentum they've built. No matter how much they **** over their customers and employees, their strategy is sound: sequels/spinoffs sell. :(

That said, some of the Blizz stuff at the beginning is kind of overblown, even though their business strategy in general is getting to worry me since merging with Activision. For example, they talk about advertising in SC2, but b.net has had ads since Diablo. Most of those paid features in WoW had been long-requested by players (I myself have used a few of them), and even the shitty paid pets/mounts are entirely optional and have zero impact on gameplay (although $25 for a sparkle horse is dumb as hell and a really easy way to make everyone in game think less of you :p). Lastly, the authenticator is a piece of hardware, not just "additional protection against hackers" (way to be deliberately vague), so it's not like they could hand them out for free, and the phone app version is like $2.

If they do this mission right then I will lay down money for this game.

Doing it "Right" - more than 20 good guys, 6 bad guys, only 5 of which get killed. Two of them may have been killed while unarmed.

Seriously, a remotely realistic Iranian Embassy Siege mission would be the dullest level of Call of Duty ever made.
