Which is worse, getting drunk or getting stoned. Should they legalize pot?

How often do you hear of an abusive stoner, or a stoned driver getting into a horrible car wreck, or someone smoking so much pot they had to get their stomach pumped (?!)

How often do you hear of an abusive drunk, or a drunk driver getting into a horrible car wreck, or someone drinking so much they had to get their stomach pumped?

I think it's clear.

Well, both are shit-stupid, so I don't really care.

Legalize it? **** no.

How many people drink? Now how many people smoke marijuana? Obviously Drinking and Driving is going to happen more often and is what you hear on the news.

As far as legalizing it...
Should they legalize jumping off a cliff or a mountain?

I don't care to hear any possitives about marijuana. I can live my life just fine with out it. What I do care about is the bad things. I need to live my life without those.
...same for drinking.

They're both equally bad. No, it shouldn't be legalized.

I hope all you who are potheads and scream to legalize it aren't the same ones yelling that our country is full of idiots... Cause well, frankly you're who you're talking about.

:E

Of course smoking Marijuana is much worse than drinking alcohol, once you've start smoking that shir, you can't stop. That's not the case with alcohol.

Umm...have you ever heard of alcoholism?

I used to smoke a ton of pot. Quit cold turkey. It would definitely be harder for me to stop drinking.

Personally I think both are fine when done in moderation. It's just fun man. I think some of you guys are just up-tight dorks.

This is a controversial subject so please try and make sure you're mature if you take part in this discussion.

[sarcasm]Some people may not agree with your point of view!![/sarcasm]

i think they either need to make both legal or both illegal, because its a double standard right now. both can affect your behaviour and need to be used responsibly.

Yes, I have, but you will have to drink alot of alcohol to be dependent of it, that's not the case with maijuana.

well, i imagine that it's harder to quit being an alcohol than smoking pot. if you go cold turkey with alcohol, then your liver can stop working, and you can die. it must be hard quiting pot, but i cant see it as being deadly.

although, im not an alcoholic or a pothead, so i cant really say either way :p. infact, ive never smoked pot, and have only had maybe 5 swigs of alcohol in my life (tastes like piss).

Alcohol's not supposed to taste like strawberries and cream. It's supposed to get you f*cked up. Which it does.

then whats with all the different types and varieties. if its meant to taste like crap anyway, then why even bother. you might as well suck on some sewage. im sure that would get you pretty damn f*ucked up ;)

Why leagalize it? Who will benefit? What's the point?

- More control. If it's illegal, it will go underground and criminal organisations control the quality and distribution of it. Which is obviously not very good. When the government controls it, it's much safer.

- No more pointless jailtime for something that's not worse than drinking a beer. Come on, taking legal action at someone for smoking a joint? That's ridiculous.

- It will be far easier for people with medical conditions to buy pot. And yes, it can be used as a medicine and it's done quite often.

- Less crime since there are no criminal organisations involved in the business anymore.

And the list goes on.

No matter what people who get stoned or drunk to have fun are dickwacks... in my narrow minded opinion.

I agree with poseyjmac, if your going to have alcohal and smoking legal then you have to have marijuana legalized as well. The negative medical effects of pot are no where near as bad as that of alchohal, it is much easier to get addicted to alcohal than it is to marijuana anyway, it is far easier to overdose on alcohal and die, alcohal will cause major permanent damage to your liver over long periods of time. Marijuana's effects although they aren't fully known for the long term certainly don't look as bad as alcohals.

Besides, surveys are showing that over 20% of people in North America have done pot at some time, that is alot of people to throw in jail, it can't be stopped since really law enforcement is already close to its peak of what it can do. People should also not do the classic "well just because so many people smoke pot doesn't mean you should legalize it, after all if everyone started shoplifting should they legalize that?" After all it was in the 1930's in the US that prohibition was in place and that was gotten rid of, I see it the same way with marijuana.

Smoking pot can put you at risk for the same cancers as smoking tobacco will... but tobacco is legal.

And on the seventh day, god stepped back and said "There is my creation, perfect in every way... oh, dammit I left pot all over the place. Now they'll think I want them to smoke it... Now I have to create republicans!"

I have never seen people on pot get in a fight, because it's ****ing impossible.

They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the ****ing effort. There is a difference.

Why is marijuana against the law? It grows naturally upon our planet. Doesn't the idea of making nature against the law seem to you a bit... unnatural?

See, I think drugs have done some good things for us, I really do. And if you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a favor, go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes and all your CD's and burn them. Because, you know what, the musicians who made all that great music that's enhanced your lives throughout the years... rrrrrrrreal ****ing high on drugs.

You never see positive drugs stories on the news, do ya. Isn't that weird cos most of the experiences I've had on drugs, were rrreal ****ing positive. Who are these morons they're finding that's what I wanna know. I used to want to call the news, "Come over to our house! Watch Tommy's, he's a pig, film him!" "Oink oink." "Hee hee, he's been doing that for hours. He's killing us. You getting all that?" You know what I mean. Always that same LSD story, you've all seen it. "Young man on acid, thought he could fly, jumped out of a building. What a tragedy." What a dick, **** him! He's an idiot. If he thought he could fly, why didn't he take off from the ground first? Check it out. You don't see ducks lining up to catch elevators to fly South. They fly from the ground, you moron. Quit ruining it for everybody. He's a moron, he's dead, good. We lost a moron, ****ing celebrate. Boy I just felt the world get lighter - we lost a moron! Put on the Hammer album, I'm ready to dance!

[dances]

"We lost a moron." I don't mean to sound cold or cruel or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out. Professional help is being sought. How about a positive LSD story? Wouldn't that be news-worthy, just the once? To base your decision on information rather than scare tactics and superstition and lies? I think it would be news-worthy. "Today a young man on acid realised that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather!"

Bill Hicks is your god.

But I digress...I do think that marijuana should be legal, because it is not that damaging in moderation, especially compared to alchohol and tobacco. If anything,. tobacco and alcoho should be the illegal ones, but that just isn't a realistic decision -- it didn't work before, why should we try again? it just creates more problems. However, people should be made aware of the dangers, especially for young people. I think it's the government's responsibility to put this information out there -- this way people can make their own decisions based on the positive and negative attributes of taking a substance. Don't get me wrong, I don't smoke or take drugs, I hardly drink anymore at all, but I do think people have a right to do these things.

But then there are the really hard drugs like cocaine, ecstacy and heroin, that I do feel should be banned -- and then the government should crack down on limiting the circulation of these drugs. One of the main problems with this sort of thing is that the government feel drug users should be put in jail, which is just downright wrong in my opinion -- they should focus more on cleaning them up rather than throwing them in jail. If you're dealing these drugs, then you should be thrown in jail, but not because you're using them.

So basically, I say:

- marijuana should be made legal

- alcohol and tobacco will remain legal no matter what - It's been tried before, and it doesn't work.

- anything else should remain illegal

- the government must make people much more aware of the dangers in these substances, legal or not

- Drug abuse should not be a crime, but supplying should be.

- Addicts should be forcefully rehabilitated, for their own good, and not jailed, which does not help.

Meh, all drugs are bad. I can't see why they let cigarettes be legal.

Well, alot of people have made good points here, and some made not so good points...

How many people drink? Now how many people smoke marijuana? Obviously Drinking and Driving is going to happen more often and is what you hear on the news.

Yes, if more people smoked pot it would have closer numbers to that of drunk driveing accidents...but that's it. People who are stoned don't get angry (usally) They also don't get the stomach pumped.

Smoking pot can put you at risk for the same cancers as smoking tobacco will... but tobacco is legal.
No it won't. straight up pot is about 100 times better for your body than tobacco.

And normal, straight up pot, is less addictive than alcohol. It sjut doesn't have those chemicals.

Why legalize? alot of people have touched on the issue..
-It'd be safer for people
-Reduction in gang violence
-In central/southenr american counties that have cartels that sell this stuff it would
a) Make them extreamly ineffective.
b) provide these countries with an easily exportable item that would increase thier economy.
-The Government could tax it, which would be quite a large source of income

etc.

There are way worse drugs in the world then pot, its barely addictive and has little long term effects. Alcohol is alright if you drink responsibly. I feel its more the persons fault, then what they put in them.

I know... you're more likely to get cancer a lot faster with pot... but my point was that you can get cancer, not how fast.

are we allowed to just make up claims without any facts or proof? Cause alcohol and marijuana are well known to be the cause of all of our socio-economic problems and they are the only thing preventing us from attaining a utopian existence where robots do our biddings (but they don't revolt or take over our minds and use us for energy)

They are both equally bad. I have seen and experianced the prolonged effects of both firsthand.

They either should both be legal or illegal. But here in america kids are brainwashed to think alcohol is ok in moderation and weed is evil and the source of all there problems.

I think my uncle has a wise view on it. He could care less what you do in your own home(he doesn't use drugs), but the day you take any of that shit outside of your home into your neighborhoods or cities, is the day the government (@_%'s you up. Smoke pot in your homes if you want, but if you do it in your cars, restraunts, workplace, on the streets, its gotten out of hand. If pot is legallized, it has to be done so with heavy restrictions. Doped up morons cause violence, there is no question about that. Not to mention it creates a country more full of people who would rather get high and mooch off the government than go to work.

Alcohol is OK in moderation. You don't get drunk in moderation, it helps build up the immune system as well if you only drink a little i've heard, since it is a mild toxin, and wine can help the heart. Both alcohol and pot, illegal or not, still should only be used by adults... I don't think children have any right of opinion on the matter.

o_O

I know lots of people who smoke marijuana. When they're high, all they want to do is sit around, eat and watch porn. Weed makes you mellow, it most certainly doesn't make you violent.

If anything, being high prevents people from getting into fights, other hard drugs however do cause problems. Plus it isn't really the pot that makes alot of people lazy as it is alot of the kind of people that are attracted to doing pot (not all of them) are lazy to start with. However I do agree with doing it as a private matter, don't take it to public places. Certainly don't try driving with it or going to a restaurant high or anything along those lines.

Well, you may not have seen people violent when high under the influence of MJ, but I have. It's like alcohol, it affects different people differently, some to greater extremes than others.

I have a few friends who are stoners, and I know whats happened to them.. (this is quite recent, and I don't really want to talk about it)

But I'm afraid, there is no way Pot should be legal. I don't care what you say, smoking weed de-motivates you. It just does, even when you're not high. I'd like to point out that

OH NOES smoking ANYTHING puts you at a greatly increased risk of lung cancer. Whether you're smoking spliffs or splints, it's carcinagenic.

Neither drinking or smoking pot is 'cool' and to be honest, I think you're an idiot if you base your life around that. As some of the people here know, I'm a bit of a piss artist, but thats my decision, and I don't go out to get drunk, and I don't need to get drunk to have fun. I socialise etc, and alcohol is part of that.

Oh, and weed gives you paranoia. Alcohol ****s your body slowly too, but it's no where near as bad as smoking draw.

marijuana > liqour/beer

marijuana should be legalized
stoners should be killed

I for one have no problem with pot or alcohol. I actually think that both are safe when used in moderation . It also depends on the person. Some will be affected more than others. And some will abuse the substances. This is no joke, I live in kentucky and where I live in kentucky pot is everywhere. Most of the people down here either grow or smoke it. As for alcohol, almost everyone drinks. Sure there are some who abuse it but most are responsible enough to know when they have had enough. I will be 19 this year and I have been smoking cigarettes since i was 13, I been drinking since I was 7 (my grandpa gave me beer to drink when i was 4 for god sakes), I have been smoking pot since i was 8. I could care less what they do about legalizing pot, I have been around it my whole life and to be perfectly honest pot is nothing more than another type of tobacco for me anymore. I can quit cold turkey if I wanted to with no problems. Now the tobacco is another thing altogether it would take a few days to quit that. As for alcohol, I don't drink to heavy or often and have never really abused it. And can't really say I would have any problems quitting that. If you ask me I would say that tobacco is the biggest problem, followed by alcohol, and then marijuana.
