I don't have any pics this second so many of you may choose not to believe me, but I have been reading yesterday and today that Kmart has no clue about the street date and in fact has them in stock and is selling them. I just called my store and totally picked up a copy. The kid at the register asked me what the game was about which further feeds the theory that neither they nor their employees know anything. Anyway, I will post pics tomorrow probably. It is sort of sad that I promised to watch a movie with the lady tonight!! The suspense is going to kill me so much that I will likely get up an hour before I typically get up for work and get some playtime in. Call your local Kmart if you want to get started on this epic adventure right away!!!

Kmart is no longer in Canada... It was snuffed out by shit-tacular Zellers... *cries*

Wait, since when did KMart start selling games? :O

When did Canada... oh I got nothing.

sooooooo....
how is it??
Played with the character creation tool a bit and it is pretty deep, though I don't feel like it has as many options as Oblivion, but who cares--its still powerful. Played the first few minutes of the game with the preset character too, but I am getting up early to get some more time with it. So far it is a great 80s sci-fi type of game--the music on the ship reminds me of Tron and so do the blue and orange glows around everything. Very very cool. I see myself losing a lot of my life with this title. More on it later....

I can only remember Deus Ex, if you used the tranq for the whole game. :/

I've not seen a K-Mart in...dear god, 10 years. I thought they died!

So in short you can't set how long your eyelashes are and how many buggers there are in your nose?

Laaaaame.

EDIT:

I can only remember Deus Ex, if you used the tranq for the whole game. :/

Fallout: stealth + speech build.
Arcanum: invisibility + speech
Deus Ex: stealth, optic camo, cloak

Fallout 2 also to a degree, except you have to kill Frank Horrigan.

A Troika game, an Ion Storm game, and two/one Black Isle games. Awesome.

Need moar Troika. Arcanum wins games.

Agreed, especially since it's the only game in which the endgame adversary managed to persuade ME.

havent heard much about this game, probably since its not for PC atm. Saw a few videos, looks cool and all but the big turn of is the combat...its annoying as **** to have the character take up almost half of the screen, seriously fix the ****ing camera. Either put it in FPS mode or a better 3rd person...I cant see shit

Well victimofscience what are your first impressions so far? I read in a ign preview that it takes quite awhile to get a grasp on the combat, like 5 hours. thats insane...

Well I called my local K-Mart and they definitely dont have it sooo.....yah.

No need for any rampaging mobs. Here is a pic of the contents of the game on the floor of my study. I will post pics of gameplay when I get them (probably tomorrow). The combat takes no time at all to get used to, but I have not even tried to get into controlling my squadmates. The main character controls in action not unlike your typical RE4 or Uncharted character. Very responsive and fun.

To all Brits: Currys (Digital) is selling Mass Effect right now. I just picked my copy up a few hours ago.

:D:D:D:D:D:D

So far, it's fantastic. The story is really gripping, and with all the many different ways you can go about uncovering details, information and backstory, it just adds to the depth even more. It really is something special. I'm about an hour in now, just need some supplies for my ship, which is going to cost money, but I've already got about 7 different sub-quests to do that look really interesting so I'm eager to carry on just for the sake of enjoyment and discovery - the money I'll earn is just after thought.

The character creation is really cool, too. I like the way you can actually build up your character by giving them a certain backstory to his past. I'm an Earthborn soldier with the military past that left me the sole survivor of a battle. The hero one seemed far too cliche video game hero, and the ruthless one was a bit too war movie-ish, so I went with the survivor to give my character a more darker and grittier back drop.

The dialogue/convesation system works really well, too. It opens up so many more ways to uncover different areas of information, and the best part is is that you can find stuff out to your liking and own personal knowledge, as opposed to just having everything spoon fed to you in a really dull way. My only complaint is sometimes, when interacting with a character, you'll both be fairly wooden in terms of body language, as in you'll both just stand face to face with the occasional shift or movement every now and again. But aside from that, and one or two cringeworthy conversations it's fantastic.

Love it.

I just returned a whole bunch of shit and payed off my copy so I can just run in grab and leave as fast as possible. 2 more days D:

I'm split between being a Vanguard or Soldier, but I'll probably decide at the last second once I get it.

VoS - read only if you have visited the Hawking Cluster/the planet Presop and done the ''UNC: Major Kyle'' mission.

How the hell do you a) get Major Kyle to surrender or b) fight off the enemies that rush into the room when you kill him? I'd like to do this peacefully but the conversation always sways to me putting a bullet in his mad self, and then when his comrades rush into the room they use all sorts of witchcraft and flashing lights to take me and my squad down in seconds.

Nope--haven't gotten there yet. Too hard to split my time between this and Mario Galaxy and Assassin's Creed. I have this whole week off from work though and I should be able to get through most of these 3.

at times like these I wish I had an x360 just to see what all the fuss is about.

Four hours in at the moment and the combat is starting to get to me. It's just so painstakingly frustrating. Me and my squad just aren't good enough to tackle a room full of 8 mercenaries, and god forbid we come across biotic soldiers as they use all sorts of witchcraft to fight you. I've heard it takes a little getting use to, but I think for now I'm going to find other missions and story lines that don't involve huge shootouts, just so I can get some monies and exp. points for me and my squad to upgrade our attributes and weapons.

Other than that, though: awesome. :D

Is this game coming to PC?

EDIT: Somehow I made the typo "this" as "shit", lol.

Besides the requirement to level up to defeat certain areas and enemies, how is the combat compared to the KoTOR games?

Is it like KoTOR 1 where you basically send your squad in to set about the enemies in a reckless scrap, or do you have combat options for your squad such as those in KoTOR 2? (Ranged, close quarters, defensive etc.)

Although I want a combat system that makes you think a bit more rather than run in and blast the living shite out of everything, I'm hoping it's not overly-tactical like some military shooters on the market.

(Talk about strict demands!)

I haven't been through a KOTOR game properly to say, although It's a mixture of both. You direct your squad mates to locations in a Ghost Recon/Brothers in Arms fashion and there they fire and stay in cover throughout the fight. However, each character has certain things they can do via leveling up and unlocking/buying stuff, so a quick hit of the right bumper brings up a squad attributes like menu where you can then tell so-and-so to use 'Overload', which burns out and overheats any weapons in the direction it's fired out for a few seconds.

Other features do different things, but so far that's all I've used.

The fights I've been have deffinatly shown that I need to work on my squad a bit more. The two hard fights I've been in have seen the enemy rush us and destroy us very quickly, so I need to work on that. It's good, it's just difficult.

not much in the way of impressions, surely some of you are playing this game? the reviews so far are either "wow, this is the second coming of jebus" to "this is what the game is not" I'd much rather hear what you guys think of it ..Victemofscience? Warbie? TheAntipop: more details on fun factor, game depth, rpg immersiveness etc ..if you dont mind :)

Not at all, just been a bit too involved in it to do much else at the moment. :p

The game is very, very fun. Not fun as in Mario Galaxy, but fun as in it's really going to keep me occupied for a long time. I'm 9 hours in at the moment and I'm give or take on the second quest that makes up the main plot storyline. Both the one I'm currently on and the one before have taken at least an hour or two to go through, and they've been been incredibly good. Maybe they've taken so long because of all the interaction, but seriously, the story, as well as each and every story that the characters you meet, is seriously gripping stuff. We've all seen the videos of Bioware showing off the conversation sequences in the bar to that alien, but theres so much more to it. I can be as pig ignorant as I want and pretend I know everything about such and such, but if you want to find out more so a whole ton of paths to choose that can uncover new information and secrets from a characters past. It's mindblowing just how detailed everyone is when it comes to story.

The combat has improved a lot for me now that I have taken the time to upgrade both me and my squad mates equipment and weapons, and also their levels and attributes. I'm not a big RPG gamer so I wouldn't know where to begin with comparisons and whatnot. All I'll say is there is a lot of stuff to gain and use on you and your squad that will really make or break situations.

That said, the combat isn't for the casual gamer. It can be very difficult, and whilst it isn't overly tactical like Ghost Recon, it does require quite a bit of thinking, esp. on behalf of what weapons your going to use, what upgrade to use, what armour I should wear and more importantly, do I take in a squad member who knows a lot about assault rifles, or a squad member who knows how to **** shit up with biotics. Trial and error is common (for me) but it opens up your horizons to all the upgrades and attributes to collect.

I haven't stepped to far into the universe yet as it's really quite a sight looking down upon the galaxy map. Much to my dissappointment, although planets are there, not all of them are you able to land on, but so far I've come across a fair lot which all hold some very nice missions and secrets.

The main quest so far has been brilliant. The level I'm on at the moment... well, lets just say Aliens meets Starship Troopers. Bugs and eerie, atmospheric abandoned facilities. It is awesome.

EDIT: My one gripe is that you can't skip cutscenes/conversations. I watch and listen to them all as much as I can, always trying to have lengthy conversations, but when my last save point is right before a really long cutscene/conversation, and when that finishes I go staight into a really hard battle that you can't save the game in. Whilst not being able to save in combat really does make you think about how your going to fight tactically, it pisses me the **** off. I can't get past this certain fight (**** BIOTIC SOLDIERS, YOU GODDAMN DEMONS) so everytime I die I have to watch this damned cutscene and take part in a lonnnng conversation all over again. Nnnngh.

I don't mind either, esp. since I am loving the game so much.

Firstly, it is loads of fun. Yes, I have died a lot in combat, but the overall immersion in the game and its awesome story and characters is unparalled this generation. The exploration of the galaxies is beautiful and varied. The conversations are brilliantly written and the branching paths of the plot(s) and the dialogue trees and how they relate to one another is, once again, unparalleled heretofore. I still don't know how far-reaching the consequences of certain discussions may be, but I am assuming that some of them will be very important later on because I imagine sinister undercurrents in most of the conversations I have with everyone in the game.

The RPG elements get pretty deep too. Its not like FF12 (which I love btw) where every character will be almost the same once their license board is unlocked with enough experience. Each character here is different by a pretty big margin. My character will never be the straight-up combat soldier like some of the other members of your party, just as they will not the biotic or tech specialist my character is. The weapons have been getting their share of upgrades too. Loads of customization in the way you create your character (though not physically necessarily), the way you have your character behaves in every situation, the way you modify yourself and your weapons, the order in which you complete missions, the amount of other side-questing you do. Basically, it will be a very different game each time around and I am pretty excited to try again with a more ruthless approach just to see where it gets me. This is also cool because your character will be transferable to the next installment in the series which is ultra-cool indeed.

Anyway, to make a long story short, this is one of the best games this generation and imho one of the best console exclusive titles EVER. I am off to pick the soundtrack up for now--its one of the best soundtracks ever too.

EDIT: Gametrailers.com gives it a 9.6 in their review.
