Medal of Honor: Pacific Assualt demo

The demo is weird, no place to set your keys, or stuff like that.

Press escape while in Gameplay and go to options, controls.

You guys think a geforce 4 mx420 64mb can handle this game? ...at all?

and to everyone whos about to laugh at me and brag about their x800 XT...i hate you all =P

I really though the soldier right at the begining was cg until his lip tore alittle.

It looks and sounds great, but its to heavily scripted to be fun.

Tried it on my GeForce 4, 256RAM, 1.6 CPU, and it is unplayable for me at the lowest of settings, but it might improve once the whole game comes out, but I doubt it. Buy a 9600XT, they are ridiculously cheap with the X800 serious becoming available.

If I'm honest - waste of a download. Just felt like more of the same, didn't bring anything new and if my eyes weren't playing tricks on me...no ragdolls?

I know they hardly make a game but death animations really are quite boring once you've been exposed to un-animated deaths. Especially if two enemies, one in front of the other, are killed at the same time and do the same dance of death :(

Anyway, it is too scripted, although this will make it more war-like I'm just not into it anymore. So if you absolutely never ever got tired of MOH:AA download it, otherwise save yourself the trouble

I thought it was totally fun. The graphics are really excellent.

I've only played a small bit until i took myself out with falling parts, the one element i did like was the ability to pick up wounded soldiers and take them away from the line for the medic to heal. That said, i wouldn't have minded seeing some of the enemy get wounded and have the same thing happen to them, but they have the tendancy to run in and try to stab ya.

I thought the demo was very good. The graphics are very good and the gameplay is intense.

Wow, I need to try that now. Didn't know you could pick up the wounded.

Just finished it and I enjoyed it a lot. I love mowning down waves of troops with mah 50 clip tommy gun. Runs surprisingly well on my Amd XP 2000+ 512 GeForce 4 Ti4800se Can run it pretty happily at 1024 Medium/Medium Probably be able to get away with High, shall have to fiddle.

I for one don't care about new gameplay elements or any shite like that. If it's the same as what I've palyed recently then I like it! If it works then don't bloody fix it. So yeah - I'd happily pay money for this.

Im liking this 1 alot.....I luv how detailed that guys face/expressions are when he first wakes you up.

heh

game requires a video card that fully supports direct x 8.1

i hate nvidia for every making the geforce 4 mx series..and i hate hp for every puttin them in their computers

its quite good. not very intense, because you know your about 400x as powerful as your japanese counterparts.

the banzais are pussified too because they just try to club you with their weapons. boo.

:dozey: Well I played the demo again, didn't get to pick up a wounded ally. But, I noticed something when I was near death, and shooting from about a very far distance. I saw that the enemy advanced, from tree to tree, tree to barrel, barrel to box, box to wall, whatever. I thought that was pretty good, yeah the AI does need some fixes though and those scripted sequences, too noticeable.

I'm just a little bummed that the game doesn't have full-on rag dolls. They play an animation in order to keep the deaths under control I think. What I mean is that instead of having full ragdolls where a grenade can send a body flying into the air, they chose to play an animation first in order to keep them in the same position. But, when you bash them, they ragdoll out of control like you are the world's strongest man.

Also, where is all of that open-endedness that they promised us? I could have sworn that they said there would be a very very small amount of scripting, multiple ways to achieve your objectives, and vast landscapes to walk through. They even said that the maps would be 5x larger than MOH:AA. I noticed a few spots where you could see through the map.

When they say that the game uses the Havok physics engine, they kind of make it sound a lot more physical that it really is. I noticed that many things won't tip over...even with grenades. The barrels wont fall over if you run into them like they do on the Source Engine. The physics seem rudimentary at best. If you somehow manage to flip a barrel on its side and shoot it, it has extremely choppy physics. I mean really, really choppy. Even Far Cry's physics are better.

I really respect Valve now for making the physics system in Source so realistic. They must have either implemented it much better, or modified it severely.

I'm still buying the game though. I just wish it were left to talented developers like 2015...

EDIT: Okay, lets flash back to the first tech vids of this game...

This explains the map sizes and how you do an entire mission rather than loading seperate parts of one mission.

This one is about the full-on physics that didn't make the cut.

And finally the AI that is made to look better than it really is.

I love a good WW2 action packed shooter. But I hate it when you are alone in missions. I mean what the heck now you are some kind of tac ops guy?

Call of Duty was so misleading with it's demo. They give you this action packed battle with hundreds of troops on the field... Then they take that all away from you when you play the full game.

Downloading the demo now... 445kb/s :D

Thing about COD, even in the huge battles, you still faced the very same enemies each time you played it through, so it wasn't really like it's this giant simulation of a battle, it's just showing you the rest of a battle that's pretty much non-interactive.

Bah, I could have told you a month ago this game would be mediocre at best. I'm not going to waste my bandwidth on the demo. From what I hear, I was right.

The only WWII game (other than CoD and its expansion) that I'm really interested about is Brothers in Arms.

Uhh thats just stupid

Before flame wars start, you should know that many people in this forum have a thing agains huge cooperate developers like EA who compromise their games for profits.

Example: Original Mohaa lacked any nazi flaggs and blood simply to get a teen rating, so that more copies could be sold.

Wow.. The game wasn't as good as I expected.

Mostly because my computer ran it like SH!T.
And the loading time was really long. >_>
The Squad work was pretty cool.
Meh.

Not as good as Id hoped, I dont think its very optimised yet so Ill wait for teh Full version before I judge permance too much.
It was also quite linear, maybe again full version will be more open?
Overall it didnt live up to my expectations, hopefully, liek Ive said, it will get better.

What's with those ridiculous icons floating above the US soldiers heads? WTF?? This is supposed to be immersive but those things are just stupid!!

Great sounds though...!

:dozey: Well there's an option to turn those Avatars off.

As bad as I knew it would be, and just as I said months ago..***ns like crap, isn't very fun, way too scripted, and THE AI IS F**KING STUPID! enemy soldier-"Oh No! this one stupid american is less than 20 meters away! Even though I could easily blow his head off from here, I think I'll run slowly towards him in a straight line while making sure I avoid any possible cover! BONZAIIIII!!!! "

the only good things were the gas tanks that you could shoot the ends of of to turn them into a missle, and even that wasn't very well done.

just played it and i thought it was the worst game ive ever played..worse than far cry..ive always hated medal of honor and i thought this one had changed but it didnt

Not very good, the gfx are very nice, but A.I is stupid, the japs run at a group of 5 armed soliders with a sword, now Im no expert, but I dont think they should do that. It did'nt run very well, I have a good computer but I had run on low settings, even then it ran pretty bad.

Wont be buying it.

Graphics are nice, i like the blurring effect when you shoot the tommy and the browning, other then that it was kinda...meh. nothing i haven't palyed before really

Meh.

What squad work? I had no need to use any of the commands, I'm pretty sure Brother Hood in Arms is going to blow PA away in ever department.

The plane AI is inexistent....the lying bastards promised so much.... physics, vast territories, great AI. I was actually hyped up for this game, it's a great let down right now.

A bonzai is a tiny tree, "Banzai" is the Japanese battlecry. It litterally means thousands years of life. I actually don't see such a long lifespan happening with lousy AI like this. What a letdown, this demo. It's basically Doom III in the Pacific with Nips in stead of monsters and with WWII-weapons in stead of the BFG. You don't need tactics, cover or your teammates. The graphics are OK but not very spectacular. Actually, only the sound effects are above par.

WOW, 99.9% of all people are complainning about the AI, and some other aspects of the game.

I hop the full version will fix all these wrong implementations.

We could give it a second chance guys, don't we ?

I liked it.

exactly, we should give it a second chance when the full version releases.

Just like CSS:BETA it has many bugs and valve is doing a great job fixing these bugs. Anyway the point is, this game looks dam cool, and there is an opportunity that full version will have what everybody hyped for in the first place.

Meh, see my review - doubt I'll be buying this. Its your average Medal of Honor game.

Just finished playing it and my suspicions were pretty much confirmed - it's nothing particularly special. More of the same we've come to expect from the Medal Of Honor series (which is fine if you like the old games and aren't expecting much in terms of innovation).

Graphics are decent, but not particularly outstanding. They're an improvement over previous MoH games but don't reach the standards of recent FPS titles like Far Cry or Doom 3. You'll probably need a decent PC to play the demo on, since there's alot going on - particularly when you reach the airfield. Even on my rig, there was a very slight slowdown at that point (but then all was fine again). Character models are improved over previous MoH games but still aren't hugely impressive. Weapons are generally okay, and explosion FX are much as you'd expect. The old "blur cam" effect from Call Of Duty and Vietcong is here and accounted for, but obviously nothing new or innovative anymore.

Sound, as you'd expect from a MoH game is generally very good. Your team-mates and the enemy do alot of shouting amongst the blaze of gunfire, and the ambience is, on the whole, decent. Strangely, however, once you start shooting planes, the sound seems strangely muted. Have no idea why, but it ruined the immersion for me.

Gameplay is nothing special at all. You've seen it all before - run, shoot, run, shoot, lather, rinse, repeat. The enemy aren't any smarter than their counterparts in previous MoH games. Infact some of them are even stupider. I shot several Japs who were just standing around, admiring the grass. The animations weren't particularly great either - they lacked fluidity, particularly during melee combat. Sometimes they looked more like they were doing a little close-range dancing than fighting.

The much-vaunted team command system was fairly redundant. You only have four basic commands and I never found a need to use any of them. On the whole, I ended up wasting most of the enemy myself while my team-mates wandered around firing randomly at single targets (while I was mowing down multiple targets with Thompson sprays). There are no health packs, so you have to call a medic if you get hurt. I guess I prefer it this way, but you need to take yourself to a safe place (ie. behind a stack of crates) if you hope to benefit from any healing without taking further damage.

Scripting is evident all over the place. After the first 2-3 times through, I could readily predict where that jeep would be shelled, or that plane would explode. Furthermore, since your path is totally linear, once you've been through it at least twice, you've effectively been through it a thousand times.

So overall, I can't say I'll be buying this one (not that I intended to in the first place). Considering what a hard drive space-hog the Medal Of Honor games have been to date (the original MOH and it's expansions being some 2.64GB in size on my HD), I don't think I'll be wasting my precious space on a game as linear and arcadey as this. I'm just going to wait for the imminent Call Of Duty: United Offensive expansion pack and then the very-promising Brothers In Arms.

Truth be told, I've never cared much for the Pacific aspect of World War II anyway. I'm a sucker for the European & Eastern fronts. :D

Wow - I cant believe you guys can call those models "most realistic ever". Heck, this game is not even in painkiller's league - that game has better graphics than this.

Anyway - the controls were horrible, after messing around I finally fixed them.

This game has ragdoll physics? - you guys are joking right?

I laughed my ass off at the point where the soldier slid along the floor as a balloon. Not only are those death animations, but some of the worse I've seen.

The action was really mediocre, for a WWII game - the sound design didn't even touch COD's brilliance. This demo blows, I hope they fix these mistakes in the full version.

I'm too far into DLing it to stop, I guess I'll try it out.
