is there any pics of the menu screen for hl2? or is it like the one in thew e32k4 video?

Um, there are no newer images then the e3 videos. And we've never seen a screenshot of the menu screen, yet.

The only one we've seen is from the E32K4 video. This may change in the future. I have seen mock ups made by people, and I've seen a screenshot of the one used in the stolen build of the game (which was different, and a lot worse than the E32K4 one).

I liked the menu screens from the E3 2K4 version.

I wish they would include profiles and make it easy to replay levels once you have played them.

I would like the one from E32k4 more if it was an animated menu screen. Some great animated menus of all time are the Warcraft 3 ones, and I have come to like The Xbox Prince of Persia menu.

Someone tell me what menus they like.

The VGUI is also not the default Steam green anymore, it's a transparent gray kinda thing.

Yes we have. It was in the latest vid. Somebody want to dig it up for this guy?

edit: 5 people got in before me! wtf? oh well.

they'll probably animate it and stuff, i would assume the menu is the least of their worries untill the game is virtually bug free.

Half-Life doesn't have levels as such, so implementing that wouldn't work well. Profiles are a really good idea though. You could have different profiles for playing, developing or playing with cheats. Or whatever.

What I love about the new menus is how they fade in and out. Specially the console window.

I didn't see them fade. Or at least I didn't notice them Fade. If that's "animated" I suggest more.

Are you talking about that citadel image? I thought it was pretty nice myself.

8 minutes after this topic was created....

Anyways, Valve will probably make it all teched up and stuff like their sites.

We're seeing a reccuring pattern here.

I loved that feature as well. ;)

I hope they keep the menus simple and fast without any fancy animations.

Watch the e32k4 demo from gamespy from the 11:40 to the 11:50 mark. The background fades to black as the console fades in. The menu items also fade in. I dont really care for any more animation as I think the simplicity of this is very nice.

bah....simplicity is overated. The backround should have a HL2 intro theme. like with the G-man, overlaps & colour fades. It's just extra but it's still cool.

and its should be dynamic so everytime you get in the background changes and the music as well...........:)

You mean the Sierra logo?

I believe i remember seeing a menu with the combine structure thingy. Can't remember from where though.

I love simplicity. The menu in Freedom Fighters are the best, a slim widescreen picture which fades, and below is the menu.

I dislike the blurred picture in the background of the E³ 2004 viddy, but hey, I guss I'll be looking at that in a few seconds... :D

Btw, about loading bar, HL2 dosn't seem to have one? Or am I overlooking it? Hate when you can't see your progress, but a small loading time would make it even :)

WOW! I just cant wait to see what the main menu looks like! I hope it lives up to my expectations!

Nor a hard implention.

Not a hard implementation?

The background part is prolly easy, but the music part would be hard. How many themes would they have to create! they could cycle through 3, that's reasonable but dynamic would mean hell lot (around 15 so that it sounds different everytime).

Something like Call of duty would work. Different backgrounds (they could add more - COD had only three for each country) and a good theme (I loved COD's title theme.)

Far Cry did it. Each loading point within a level was a save check-point that you could go back to later.

At the least, assuming they have chapter names again (Blast Pit, On A Rail etc), they should create auto-save points at the start of them, if not at every single level-load.

if you played, downhill domination, they had the perfect menus. i loved how they integrated the 3d. i dont see why game designers dont do that now, 2-d flat menu's are so 1998 ;)

ah well, cant be choosy, menus are just menus, its the game that counts. :D

The menu is going to look alot like STEAM. There may be music, I doubt if there will be any fancy doo-hickies or animations.

The menu for HL PS2 was quite nice. It kept some of the details from the old WON HL menu, added some newer ones, and gave it a minimal amount of animation, but just enough to keep it interesting.
And even though I didnt like the game, Turok Evolution had an awesome menu. Its just crawiling with life. It was great. If only the game was as good as the menu was. :(

They probably saw the menu picture that was in the hl2 stolen build, which I admit could look like a snowy mountain from far away, but is just the citadel.

I'm pretty sure they went to Valve HQ. Wouldnt make much sense for them to see stolen build stuff at the Valve offices.

Point is, they may not have changed it since the leak.

Tinneth, is that a bloody vagina?

Jesus, no, it's the all seeing eye. you know, LOTR...with the hobbits and such. Then there's the flaming, all seeing eye. Come on, man. That's disgusting.

Anyway, i think simplicity=more better. same with grammar.

I love the current HL2 menu. It's very atmosphere rich. Animation wouldn't be a bad thing, but not on the text. Maybe the background image could animate somehow.

I just loved it though. I hope they keep it the way it is.

Personally, I HATE music at game menus. It's really really annoying in CZ, IMO.

I'd like it to be animated, but It can't get too far from the feel of the game. A simple fade-in and fade-out would be nice, as the theme is (for hl1, assuming similar for hl2) one part horror, one part sci-fi, one part mystery. Some slow, anticipation-building music would go nice with the intro. Something faster or exciting might make you focus on the music more than the action around you.
