10 Presentation
The flashiest presentation for Subsistence comes from its movies and bonus features taking center stage, which are good, but superfluous to the rest of the gameplay.
9.5 Graphics
The visuals are untouched, but the new camera makes every texture look like new. Online play is lag free with very few hitches.
10 Sound
Sound has remained practically the same, which isn't a bad thing at all, since the sound delivery of the original was basically perfect.
10 Gameplay
You have to love how the new camera makes Snake Eater feel like a new game, and the other modes more than back up the single player experience, while multiplayer rocks all.
10 Lasting Appeal
A redone camera system, Duel Mode and a robust online play guarantees this isn't a one trick snake ... er, pony.
9.8
Incredible OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

9.8!!!!!!holy shit! :naughty: *me wonders whether i should get this even though i have Snake eater*

Wow. When I was seeing previews for this I thought it would just be a decent addition. Now I might have to rent/buy this one too.

QFT&E, i'm really considering getting it depending on price, i hope they do a devil may cry 3: special edition job and release it at a cut price, full price is a bit much for me since the only new thing is the camera(for me) as the euro release had alot of this stuff, i have the original metal gears anyway and have seen the secret theatre...

but i REALLY want to play mgs3 with a decent camera, its pretty hard going back to snake eater at times coz the camera can be a right arse

wow, i can't wait for 4 days to get the game

i am so excited

Wow! I knew it would be good...but this good??? That is incredible! This should shut any nay-sayers up next time they try to criticize the mighty Kojima!

There is not problem with the camera, it's better then in the previouse versions, it's the lack of radar that sucks. Mgs uses 2D controlls which are great for bossfights and the way mgs was meant to be played.

yeah the radar negated the fact that the camera was shit as in the past mgs you could just look at your radar and you'd be grand...but there were times in snake eater when its was mind numbingly frustrating, escaping after the torture sequence for example in the grounds of the base was so dificult on the higher levels as you started north and had to hed south, plus you had no sonar or anything, lame! i'm looking forward to a new camera though, being able to zoom in around your environments and characters, the boss battle with The End for example will be so awesome with the new camera...

I guess will have to disagree on that. IMO the camera is great, on top camera works very fine for the gameplay that mgs was originally meant for. Like knocking on a wall and then quickly circling it and taking the guard hostage, it also provided great overview whne you need to sneak past guards, it also made a 2D controll possible which is great for bossfights. Splinter cell on the other hand, a great game in it's own rights has a very good 3d camera, but with that kind of camre it is hard to pull all the stuff you can do with snake in a mgs game plus you can't have really interesting bossfights. So to conclude I think the camre is great, it simply does not work IMO with the kind of game that kojima envisioned mgs to be.

I definitely misread the overall score, I thought they gave it an Incredible out of 10 :P

Sounds like a cool game. If only I had a PS2...

no i do see your point and i agree with a good part of it particurly in relation to the mgs series as a whole, in msg1 and sons of liberty it worked great as pretty much everything was at a right angle and your objective was usually towards the top or north of the screen but for mgs3 it just was flawed in the junlge areas as the landscape wasnt so suited to the msg type of camera perse as the jungle wasnt so straightforward architecturally to navigate if that makes sense, it worked fine 90% of the time though tbh...:)

i like the idea of the new camera particurly in terms of immersion and creating cinematic angles and stuff...:sniper:

Metal Gear Solid 3 returns with a vengeance in this special edition, which significantly improves an already great action adventure game while adding a solid new online mode and some great extras.

The Good: Adds a great, new online play mode; makes an already great game play even better thanks to the new camera angle; lots of other exciting extras; still some of the best graphics and sound on the ps2.

The Bad: Some of the smaller gameplay issues from the original haven't been touched; skimpy manual doesn't explain online modes.
