Metal Gear Solid 4 2008 Theatrical Trailer

The worst thing about the controls for me was the CQC, I always ended pressng O to much and slitting their throats oops, also the 'dump enemy to the ground' move I found difficult, you had to move the left analogue stick a certain way(in a semi-circle or sumit really quick) but if you got it wrong you would just move snake around

Also for FPS shooting I remember it as:
R1 - First Person
L1 - Iron Sights
Square - Bring up weapon/Fire
Analgoue Stick - Aim

He said he remembered having to hold down about 4 buttons to fire in first person, when you only need to hold down 2. What you said was irrelevant since no one was complaining about
aiming, you were just trying to be a smart ass.
OH lawd, stop being so serious were arguing on a gaming forum. He said he was exagerating hes obviously referring to having to wrestle with the controls which I agree since holding 2 buttons down and toggling the analog stick is a lot IMO. Cant we just get past our differences and see that I'm right?

Anyways...

I don't see how having to hold down 1 extra button (to activate first person mode, in a third person game) makes MGS3's controls as bad as he's implying.

shudder...I still don't really know how to do CQC

That was an absolute joke. I'm not some gorilla that doesn't know it's own strength either - I play a lot of racing games that require precise pressure on the buttons for acceleration/braking.

In the end you can't afford to test it out and get killed when you could just tranquillise the guy.

They should've had some training ground for you to mess around in.

Health and stamina recovery system was one of the most retarded thing Kojima ever did in MGS3...

That's the one. So technically it was 3 buttons instead of 4, however it wasn't just that, it was the way it got you to do it. First you held R1 to go into first person, then you had to partially depress the square button (the face buttons are pressure sensitive) to bring up the gun, AND HOLD IT LIKE THAT WITHOUT FIRING OR LETTING GO, then you had to hold L1 to look down the iron sights. If at any point you let go of any of the buttons or accidentally let go of the square button after firing instead of returning it to the partially depressed position, you'd have to do it all again. Couple all that with aiming using the stick, and yeah, I think I can quite comfortably say that it's the worst control method ever conceived (that I know of).

Oh, not to mention you couldn't ****ing move while you were doing any of this, and if you were hit even once it popped you back to third person. :|

F*CK. THAT. SHIT.

Oh, not to mention you couldn't ****ing move while you were doing any of this, and if you were hit even once it popped you back to third person.

I think there was a way to move while doing it (at least there was in mgs 2) but it was a ridiculous combination again :|

Does anyone else find that leaving a Metal Gear Solid game half way through basically mothballs it? It took me a year to get back to the second halves of both 1 and 2, but it has been a good three years since I touched Metal Gear Solid 3. This is because no matter how good people say the controls are, there are a lot of combinations to remind yourself of and working out what the hell is going on in the over-complex story is nigh on impossible. Whilst I do like the games (and considering that my housemate has a PS3, look forward to playing the next one), they're too much to commit to without wanting to play something else, and to hard to pick up once you've put them down.

I completely agree *nods* I tried getting into MGS 3 again after years and found it impossible to get round the controls again.

So far, MGS4 has been getting perfect 10 scores. Of course, they are all from official Playstation Magzine... but still, I can't ****ing wait for it!!! :bounce:

Halo 3 has an average professional review score of like 94/100, I stopped taking professional reviews seriously quite some time ago.

But yeah, MGS4 will be awesome, no doubt about it IMO, atleast for MGS fans like myself, yarr.

Just finished MGS3.

Beat MGS2 in 12~ hours - 2 days.

LOL, you rushed the entire series in a week?

How about playing both MG,MG2, and portable ops while you are at it? It gives you the further in-depth into the series story.

Got any proof of this?;)

Also
MGS1 = PS1 or GC?
MGS2 = Original or Substance?
MGS3 = Original or Subsistence?

Besides, getting Pigeon isn't hard, you can get it at ANY difficult level, even the easiest.

I know a guy who got Big Boss ranking in MGS2, and Foxhound(Extreme Mode) on MGS3, now THAT'S impressive.

That's what I love about MGS though, they're one of few games that I actually play through over and over to get all the unlockables etc.

90 ****ing minutes!!! :O

I never criticised kojima before for long cutscenes with the exception of the last scenes in MGS 2 but come on!!

http://kotaku.com/5010647/metal-gear-solid-4-box-says-46-gb-installation

kojima you are now pissing me off :dozey:

Just skip it if you want, nobody is forcing you to watch it. It also sounds like an exaggeration but whatever, we'll wait and see.

About the installation part, let me quote a guy from your link.

ara said:
The HDD was put there so developers can take advantage of it's seek times and transfer speeds, this is proper use of it, no reason to whine about it. The fact that it requires specific amount of space doesn't mean specific data will be stored there at the initial install and never to be altered, could easily be cache that's content change all the time during the gameplay. Most likely it's a mix of most commonly accessed assets and cache to extend RAM. Would be stupid not to use such a valuable resource.
I honestly see no reason to complain here unless you're nitpicking for the sake of bashing.

"**** you Kojima for reducing my load times! /shakes fist"

I'm guessing the 90 minute ones and/or the longest will be the ending cutscenes, f.e, the final cutscenes in MGS3 were very long after you slay you-know-who.

True but they usually are important for the story

No it's cos I never ralised how quick my ps3 HDD was filling up and no other game has taken the preinstalls into GB before. I feel bad for the guys who own 20 GB versions

Hmm, I have not heard about these cutscenes before--even in the reviews that have popped-up. Either this is not entirely true or they are so good that watching them is just more awesomness next to playing. Either way, I think the story will need them to tie up the craziness that this story has become. :D

Yeah, they need to invest in a laptop hard drive and get that sh!t switched out real quick. 250 GB would do NICELY for movies, games, music and pics.

I assumed that the cutscenes were 90 minutes total. For example, 5 minutes here and there throughout the game. I mean, you don't actually think there are several 1.5 hour cutscenes?

yeah, but you can uninstall it anytime - like at a later date when you aren't playing the game any more. It's not permanent. I'm sure the game saves are a separate thing and won't be erased if you uninstall it. At a later date, if you feel like playing the game again, you just install the game again.

5 mins for an MGS cutscene?? :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I remember there was one in MGS 2 that was about maybe a half hour and I think watching all the cutscenes back for MGS 1 it was about 3 hours. Considering how this one is bigger then I can see Kojima doing this and it just seems to much even by his standards and I am not one of the people who complained before about how long the cutscenes are. You had better be able to pause them if need be :|

yeah i know but i don't relly want to and it's the principle. It's just like what nintendo has said with their VC games. If you run out of space delete them and download them later on. I think it just seems to be bad design if you offer downloadable games then there will be people who will download lots you should accomodate for that. Similar thing here.

Huh? There's already been several PS3 games that have preinstalls that are several gigs.

(The PS3 versions of) Devil May Cry 4, GTA IV, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, Lost Planet, Haze, and now MGS 4 all have 3gb+ installs.

consoles = bad design IMO.

Luckily you can throw in a 250 GB laptop HDD and not have to worry about any of this. ;)

And think of the folks with an Arcade model or Core model 360. What about all of the downloadable content on XBL?? Poor dears.

Ah. I either haven't played any of them or have played them on 360. Oh well.

consoles = bad design IMO.

fair enough. I have to say i prefer pc anyway.

and Foxhound(Extreme Mode) on MGS3, now THAT'S impressive.

Hey I got that rating, the only bad thing about it is if you get caught or kill someone you have to restart the entire system. You can only save a certain amount of times too.

I found extreme mode on mgs2 much harder though, it took me over a year to finish since I would get pissed off at one of the bosses, and quit for a month or two. turns out, I didn't know all the controls though, so it made it extremely difficult.

Can't wait to play mgs4 though, even though I have no ps3. I'm thinking about just watching the game online.

yeah but they can do something about it, wii owners can't really ;)

Poor dears :P

This is like the perfect game for me. Its like playing and watching my favorite movies/games all together. I cant ****ing wait! This is going to be EPIC! I seriously cant express how ****ing happy i am with the 90min cut scenes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously its HEAVEN FOR ME!!! I'm so hyped for this game i cant go a day without looking at something MGS (No spoilers, and i haven't watched the intro of the game yet) ITS ****ING KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

19 DAYS 11 HOURS 17 MINS!!!!

I somehow knew asuka would like the news of 90 minute cutscenes ;)

Didn't rush the games, just planned it so i play on the week i had most time. I would but i don't have a PSP, but I'm probably going to get one for these games. Never got around to it.

and also metal gear acid 1 and 2

Really need to buy these!

Got any proof of this?;)

oh and i have no idea what Pigeon is, played all the games on Normal. They are the only games i don't play on the hardest difficulty. Its weird.

Perfectly said.

I not only like this news I LOVE IT! It got my bloood realll high and gave me butterflies!

I don't understand your gripe, you seem to forget that this install is to yourbenefit. As for the people who own 20 GB versions, well it was their choice to forgo the extra space for lower cost. There's nothing wrong with that, it's a trade off they consciously made. It's not like the base 20 GB HD can't hold this either, there's still roughly 15 GB's leftover after this. After all, it's not like having extra storage lying around is going to help you get a better experience. You might as well put it to some use. Odds are, if you're able to afford enough games to pack the HD, then you might as well invest into a laptop hard drive.

Yeah but why should I really? Shouldn't the companies have thought of this in the first place and given enough space for everyone. It's the same thing i've said with the 20 GB PS3, the wii and the same applies also to the core or arcade model 360.

Also I doubt the average consumer who bought the 20 GB at the time knew about all these games that would need these installs.
