Minecraft = Love

Alright, I broke down and bought a rosewill gigabit PCI express network interface card.

This is going to solve my problem with socket write errors and recv errors. At least it should, from everything I've read.

It has to do with the onboard NIC that I have.


I've been working on my home. It's not fully finished yet, but I'm almost there, at least as far as I want to be for now. also need to go in and replace all the torches since they're just there for construction purposes. Once I'm done with it I'm going to explore the world and see other peoples homes that they've been working on.

It's all been built on a hastily formed foundation on my first day on the server... so I had to build everything based off that. Haha.

Thats pretty awesome! The inside looks good but is a little monochromatic. Some well place stone, halfsteps, or smooth-stone would accent that nicely.

yeah. That's a good point. I actually intend to go in there and break up some of the wood and use timber as well as maybe some elements of stone and other stuff.

Because you're absolutely right, it is monochromatic. I wasn't sure where I was going with it, so it makes sense I start all with wood, and then I can just break it away where I want to change things up.
 
Is it possible to whitelist a personal friend of mine? I can vouch for him, and even if he did do something stupid (which i know he wont) il hold him accountable in real life lol.

Personally I don't have many issues with very close HL2.net friends being allowed in as long as they absolutely can be trusted(mature individuals).

The problem I have, is friends of friends, which should be an absolute no-no.

Will need to talk to Hokey to see what he thinks before I whitelist anymore friends.

All the direct friends thus far have played nicely and have been responsible and mature, with no incidents. They're typically secluded and only involve themselves with their friends though, for understandable reasons. However, it would suck to see the server become full of completely unknown people(friends rivaling the population of hl2.netters).
 
Yeah i definitly do not want lots of non-members starting to overcrowd the server, and out number real members. I think its ok to let 1 close personal friend in with the approval of others, and to make it work i think that the member who vouches for the outsider is also helt accountable 100% of the friends actions. In other words: If your friend gets banned, so do you.
 
And if your friend builds something really cool, you'll get the praise for it.
 
a few of my friends are playing this at uni now and i've poked my head in here and seen you guys doing some amazingly impressive shit with this game, so i've caved and brought it but whoops, i've no clue how to play it! i prefer to jump in to things and get a feel for them myself so i'm happy to get to grips with it, but any tips? i mean, i don't even know how to... mine? i dunno, what's the basics? what's the deal with the infdev shit, too? as far as i can see i'm just wandering about in the basic singleplayer world with not a lot to do but collect plants and sheep (?) fur.

help me helplife2.

edit: no wait, picked up the basics. boy, night time sure sucks for a noob, huh? what the **** are all these assholes doing coming to get me.

if you jump on the server though, people can help you learn the ropes much much faster. its a completely different world, you can't die, nothing really hurts you, falling far places is easy, you can spawn back at the start at any time, people trade, help build and explore. i think you should try coming online, theres a few tricks to learn in singleplayer but it won't help you "survive" in our server

thanks to some helpful people, I got a pickaxe, and now and extra one because its so much easier using it and going deep. also helpful tip if you haven't tried it all ready and not too sure if it works on every tool, but toss it by pressing q, and pick it up, should give you a brand new tool.

Yeah, it's a bug. I hope Notch doesn't fix it until he adds a repair table or something.

Minecraft server (not mine) could be down. There are 0 players in there right now so I don't know.
 
said i couldn't connect to minecraft net, but i can get onto singleplayer so i'm just gonna **** around in that. game just crashed on me whilst i was getting lots of supplies too which is a bit of a ballache.
 
Minecraft.net is down, so MP doesn't work at the moment. It's not a problem on your end Hokey.
 
he has one ****ing server that runs the joint and hes making millions. if he wants to make tens of millions he should buy more servers. at least thats how i see it. why doesn't he add more people to his crew??

also my list of wants for the game:

mailboxes in game, so you can leave peoples notes, bears, mega bosses for multiplayer and they'd be tough as nails to take down, possible the size of a skyscraper, or you can make your own that terrorize everyone. also a multiplayer mode that is timed, like tower defense, games last 20-30 mins and you start with a blank sleight, 2 teams head to head and you have to craft everything and either protect one location like a fort you make or its slayer and a battle to the death.

That has something to do with custom I think. I'm going to plop it into my main minecraft saves directory(after backing my worlds up) and do it from there.

We'll see if it has any effect. It would crash on me too with custom.


EDIT: Or maybe not. What the ****, how are people rendering these.

i love this game. i love what this is doing to spark peoples imaginations for such creativity. mind bogglingly amazing.
 
It's amazing how much the map grows in just 3-4 days.

Thank you for the offer, but we wish to keep this HL2.net owned and operated. I mean, yes, you've joined HL2.net but you have not been here for very long and we need someone we can trust.

The server is currently running better than expected on Hokey's computer, especially since he implemented the nogui change which causes far less lag on the server.
 
I really need to get going and finish my current project or all the cool places near the spawn will be taken and I won't have room for an actual estate.

Edit: would the server work better with more RAM? Should we pitch in for a hardware upgrade?

There is still a huge vast expanse of cool terrain to the north, not even that far from spawn (north of Raz's place).

That cartograph is really something.
