I didn't think it needed much explaining brink's. Read some reviews, Golden Eye is one of the most respected video games ever made, and for good reasons.
Dude I've played the game many times, beaten it on high difficulty and thought it was the best game ever made, but that was before I played I even knew what computers had games. Infact I was playing GE when my bro told me to try HL because Ge had nothing on it and what do ya know he was right.

It got such great reviews because at that time the only alternative to GE was Turok, so I can understand why people loved it so much.

Yes they are but the graphics of doom 3 and hl2 just crush the stalker ones if not the are much better.

Fair enough - we're doomed to disagree.

(i disagree that GE got 'such great reviews because at that time the only alternative to GE was Turok'. GE was rated against all first person shooters of the time, atleast in any publication worth its salt, and often acclaimed as one of the best games ever made - on all formats)

What do you like about games like CoD and NOLF? I honestly got bored in both of those, struggling to complete either just the one time.

I don't really feel like you can compare doom3 and stalkers graphics, cause stalker looks so real(which is good because its based on a real place) and doom3's which are great for the atmosphere they are setting. Stalker and Hl2 on the other hand are tied for me because Stalkers buildings etc. look so sweet but the weapon skins and npc models look below average while valve has pretty much balanced everything out so everything looks great(but the buildings dont look as good as stalkers)

The buildings in stalker looks pretty much like the ones in Delta Force BHD only a bit better but i dont say that hl2 is much better either, i just like the hl2 grapics better that Stalkers.
As for stalker and doom3 i think stalker has the best gameplay and such but the grapics in doom3 will be better, but stalker has great grapics too.

Ya we're never going to sway eachothers opinions..lol
COD was great for me cause I never felt I was repeating anything, every level had very different environments from the last with different objectives, plus there was always constant flow. Your character would never stay somewhere too long without moving*(GE also had this)

NOLF: I liked how it reminded me of Austin Powers with stealth. It also had environments that were differnet from the last and theres always a twist around the corner, but saying this I think its a great game but not one of the best games ever made. just better then GE in my opinion.

Overrated:

Halo
Good and quite fun but very overated, most of it coming from the console jockeys. Its like they have seen a FPS before.

MGS2
The first was good but this was trash, pants story and far to many in-game movies and not enough gameplay.

The Sims
Good but it did get boring after a while and the Add on packs just got silly and a complete waste of money.

Underrated:

H&D2
Brilliant WW2 Tactical shooter with all the elements, the only decent and fair depiction along with Call of Duty of British troops in WW2. Good stealth element in it too if anyone noticed that i think is better than Splinter Cell. FPS action or armchair general stuff. It gave you the choice.

Operation Flashpoint
Another brilliant tactical squad shooter, critically aclaimed and did ok-ish sales wise but still underrated, huge mod community.

Half Life
Of course it is a huge game now but it still doesn't get all the praise in deserves in the gaming world and is often overshadowed by the big names like Doom3.

Overrated:
Final Fantasy 7 - Not that it's a bad game it isnt at all, but so many consider it the greatest game of all time, it's not even the best FF game(FF6 is :])

GTA series + the many clones of this game - The main appeal for me at least was the open endedness of the game which really loses its fun after a couple hours, not a bad game though

Halo - Single player really is pretty bland and monotonous, multiplayer is what people seem to rave about but it's an average multiplayer shooter at best...maybe its just the vehicles that make it so fun. I think most of us PC fps players can safely say this as we have actually played games far better.

Underrated:
Day of Defeat - I personally have more actual FUN with this game than CS. After playing CS competitively for about 2 years now it's all about skill and having some high and mighty attitude which i really dont care for. I personally am more excited for DoD:Source than CS:Source as i think much more can be done with the game.

Super Nintendo rpg's - FF2, 3(6 in japan), Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG I consider all of these to be some of the best games ever :D, not necessarily underrated games just not noticed by the pc gamer crowd i suppose.

Resident Evil 4 - actually comes out in November but i think its going to be one of the best games ever and is very different from the other games in the series go check it out!!

I honestly dont play that many pc games just really the HL mods and bf1942. I beat about 3/4 of Far Cry and thought it actually was pretty good, i think the game made good use of actually making it feel like you were killing the enemies, although the trigens and other mutated creatures i thought just looked rediculously stupid.

operation flashpoint is definetly underated along with DOD.

B&W is very overated imo

dont judge stalker by screenshots, have you seen some of hl2 srcreens?...they are UGLY,and im sure both games will be gorgeus.

Black and White is very underrated IMO, it has the best AI of any game to date and it is just so much damn fun. When I got it 3 or so years ago I hated the game because it was so complicated but now I love it.

It was great, kill them by casting trees and maby drown them, GREAT!!!

When I played as an evil god I would punish my people by taking their children and killing them, like dropping a rock on them or throwing them in the ocean. It is also fun to burn down their house, and of course have your creature torture them.

I know its so funny i might start playing again just to trow rocks and trees at them, perhaps starv the to death :D

totally agree that FF6 is the best FF game ever. no final fantasy magic system can compare to the esper system.

and i can't argue with having to take a break from all the dod, cod, bf1942, far cry, etc. and loading up a good SNES rpg. maybe it's just nostalgia but playing chrono trigger or secret of mana for the bazillionth time never gets old.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot about Enter the Matrix. That game definitely came out of someone's ass.

Metal Gear Solid 2
Not as great as the first. One of my biggest beefs was having to play as Raven. This is Metal Gear! I want to be Snake damn you! Hehe. The story was a bit too "far out". I felt it was over the top.

The lame character's name was Raiden by the way. I got past it though. I thought the story was awesome except for the very last twist.

I think it was Freedom Force. I really never liked that game, but it got all good reviews all around. :|

Wrong thread? Cause Black and White isn't a game in the first place, it's a more advanced tamagochi. It's not complex, it's repetitive and boring. The first level was really fun, teaching your animal to throw poop at villagers blabla. The second island is more of the same really. And then the third, where you lose your creature, which pretty much was the whole reason behind the game. I gave up after this.
And besides, I never felt like a god, I felt like a floating babysitter who had to pay attention to the creature 24/7 to stop him from torching down villages and other crazy stuff.

The idea was fun, but it just didn't work out. But I have much hope for BW2.

I have to disagree there. FFVII's story was much more interesting to me. I also think the materia system is the best system by far that the FF series has had. By the end of FF6 I had everyone knowing every spell in the game. Edgar had an economizer and phoenix on him, so everything including phoenix only cost 1mp to cast. Sabin had offering and genji glove on so he got 8 attacks for 9999 each. Those two were more than enough to beat the game. Every character was basically the same at the end because you could have them all know every spell...and their individual abilities didn't set them apart enough in my opinion.

FFVII's materia system let you set roles for characters and such. I also liked how you leveled up materia to get the next spell in line.

After the 2nd island I never had to teach my creature anything but a few spells(I played as a good god). I don't think the whole game is based on the creature, it is a small part of the game and I could easily do fine without him. I also don't think it is repetetive because there are so many different things to do and so many different ways the villagers react.

I agree. The first NOLF came out in a time where First Person Shooters consisted of the same thing over and over and over and over again. Then NOLF came along with stealth, humour, and a good (albeit, silly) storyline. And to top it all off it had about 40 levels. I love the game, and i still do. It was the first game i played where you could sneak around a corner and listen to the bad guys talk like real people. I thought it was really really good.

MOST OVERRATED GAME EVER:
Dance Dance Revolution

it just scares me how good these people are... and sum chick who was on g4tv.com (the show) lost 90 pounds playing it

DDR is fun man. I know it's more of a coordinated seizure than actual dancing, but it's fun.

Halo - All the little kids who only play consoles think it's so great. After I played it for the first time I thought "That's it?" Because I've played soo many games that are better than Halo and these stupid punks think it's the best game ever made because they don't know any better. Whoopeee, go play BF1942

UT2k4 - Same old UT shit rehashed again. Most of the weapons were the same old boring crap. Wow great, a chaingun that takes 30 bullets to kill someone! Where was the gun that shot sawblades and decapitated people? Where were all the cool guns?

Everquest- I can't believe people think this is the greatest MMO ever. It's total shit! The graphics look like the diarrhea in my toilet and the gameplay is even worse! the downtime blows goats hard and the combat sucks more than a 2 dollar whore.

Underrated-

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 - classic game, has awesome cutscenes with real actors. Cool weapons and fun force power. Conc rifle > All

Tribes 2: This game still rocks. Jetpacks and sweet vehicles make for some incredible gameplay when your playing with friends

Asheron's Call - Best MMO ever. Has a huge world, virtually no downtime and it has semi-twitch combat. Has a ton of quests to do and is actually fun to play unlike Everquest

first of all, u can't tell whether a game is overrated or not if the game is still in developement stage. Therefore saying doom3 is overrated cannot be justified yet.

Halo is the overrated one. It's all advertising, the music, the footages and the show on the stage just to make it seem to be something big, yet once u play the game, there isn't much to offer.

I think one game is underrated, red faction 1. It's the first one featuring breakable environments. And with that feature, the multiplay is damn fun. People just don't realize it and never gave it a try.

ut2004 and the battle field serie are not overrated, if u get to know the fun part of the game are vehicles, not guns. None of other game has offer so much enjoyment in driving vehicles online than these two games, not even halo or cs. by the way the vehicles in cs are just hilarious and rediculously funny.

over-rated:
driver 3
halo
any zelda game except for the orginal gold one for the nintendo

I agree that many people say its amazing when its not as good as they say, but seriously Halo is one of the best games i have played on the PC, and this is because of the gripping story and the awesome music and brilliant atmosphere. Itws totally unique, and i couldnt give a **** if it has clunky controls or not.

IMO i think Far cry is overrated, because it suffers from the same things as halo, except it has a shit story and a shit atmosphere. No decent music, and it feels just as clunky... i have no idea why. plus its so damn bare.

and BF1942 rocks, but it is in NO COMPARISON with halo!!! wtf!!! theyre two COMPLETELY different games!!! BF1942 is a popular multiplayer game set in WW2, while halo is a console FPS with great singleplayer and it is set in a sci-fi future...

ha. ha. ha. ha.

I almost gave up here.
seriously, i could just wait for Abom to come in here and say it all, but instead ill say it.
UT2k4 is a huge game. it offers tons of experiences, ones that match that of BF1942 (e.g. onslaught) doom (deathmatch) missions (assault) super kewl deadly football (whats-it-called) and every other FPS (CTF, TD etc).

It has over 100 maps. all amazingly crafted and beutifully sculpted. it has TOBS of weapons, new and old, which feature such amazing weapons such as the ion painter (you call in a ****ing AIRSTRIKE) and the redeemer (BIG bang...)

seriously, slag off any game you want, but UT2k4 is the best multiplayer game out... i used to think that deathmatch style games were crap (hell, i still do) but UT2k4 is amazing.

*edit* DONT DISS ZELDA!!! i used to hate it, but now m a super fan after playing just 10 minutes.. i have completed both of the newest ones now, and zelda is one of the most polished and brilliantly imaginitive series that ever blessed our screens. Those who say it is for babies should obviously go home and play their "mature" games such as true crime, streets of LA, which features people hurting each other and shiny cars...

*edit #2* DOES ANYONE READ ANYHTING I WRITE WHEN I WRITE THIS MUCH?? most people just ignore me when i write long posts ;(

Yes.

TOBS of weapons
How dare you incite the wrath of my inner grammar nazi? :sniper:

The Rayman series is way underrated, in my opinion.

I think the hardcore RPG fans say its overrated because they were expecting more, but personally i loved it (KOTOR being the only RPG game i'ver ever played)

Halo was a complete pile of shit. The singleplayer was so lame and repetitive and the alien designs were so stupid. I'd rather play Dark Forces than that steaming pile of crap.

Exactly, like I said, the same old shit rehashed. Sure, plenty of maps, but does it matter when most of them are complete shit? And when I played the one multiplayer mode with vehicles, it felt the same as Halo, which was why I probably hated it. Tribes 2 > Halo and UT2k4
