My first relitively 'NEW' car! \o/

I hate how all the new cars have plastic covering the engine. If I need to change say, the air filter, you gotta go through all these plastic coverings just to uncover it. Don't even start on the serpentine belt. :hmph: Tip to car makers out there: think of the mechanics and DIY'ers!!! I don't care if it's against my warranty, I can do the oil change myself, not Jiffy Lube or the dealer!

the truth is the majority of people who actually work on there cars is FAR less than the people who bring them to the dealer.

Most plastic covers pop off with a couple plastic screws...but auto makers put them on to make the engine look pretty. Most car drivers know nothing about cars other than 'foot goes here' and 'gas goes there'...so when they pop the hood they dont want to see a mess of wires and hoses...

The funny thing, I love the way the engine bay looks with the cover on. Too bad is so dusty under it. But the thing literally just slides off. It sits on a couple plastic pieces on the chassis..and that's it!

My dad and I did this for a cheap van we bought off eBay. Don't even go into how dirty it was but it looked like some kids poured bottles of coke in the seats because it was a school van for NH. Anyways aside from it being a lemon car, we had to clean it up. So we got like 3 cans of this stuff: http://www.gunk.com/CAT_CEB1.asp We then drove at like 9PM to a car wash and used all 3 cans of the stuff on the hot engine. It says not to do it while it's hot, but it works better actually. They just don't want the stuff to catch on fire (it won't) or you breathing in the fumes.

So after the stuff melts the gunk that is soft from the hot engine, you get the high pressure hose and just get rid of the gunk. Stuff works exceptionally well. It looks like it came straight from the dealer and smells orangy after. :p Just don't turn on the air vents after because you will suck in the fumes of the stuff. They say not to pressure wash the engine because things can short out, but all the cables are waterproof, just don't spray directly on the engine. Lucky that the covers slip off too. :)

Yeah, there is a carwash that has an "engine clean" selection. it's green foamy stuff that you spray on, let it soak, then rinse it off. Didn't do too well, but at least my engine is only dusty dirty, not oil dirty \o/

Wow, my best mate is buying the exact same car (color, options) for $18k with only 12k miles on it

Basically I'm saying "Awesome car"

Yeah, due to my lack of credit, I couldn't really haggle with them too much. I was basically pushing to get the bank to approve me for that car. I figure I'll pay this off, and be able to haggle my way through the RX-9 :p

If you wanna get rid of your stockers you might be able to sell them to an SVXer.
They look pretty darn good on our cars. C:

I dunno if it snows bad where you are but if it does you might wanna keep them.

IMO That car looks ugly as shit. What is with the mini windows? can you even look outside with that huge pole there?

My engine is all nice and clean, we just got it rebuilt and I think that motor has about 760 miles on it right now. We just had to pull the starter because one of the solenoid contacts was shorting and the car wouldn't start. We just had to tighten that down and it was good as new.

oh god i want to be rich NOW.

Even if i was rich though, i dont think i'd buy a ferrari or a lambo now...i'd most likely buy an audi r8.

It's something i can picture myself driving around every day.

mmmmm...freshly rebuild engines. Always so sexy.

nice, congrats on the new car.

Im actually in the process of selling my RX-8 :(. Might be getting a lancer, not sure.

It's weird seeing the interior of your car, as its identical to mine. Only warning...do no shut the car off cold. I was told this and didnt really pay too close attention and it ended up costing me over 100 dollars as the engine flooded and my plugs were ruined. Its safe to shut off after the needle is on the second line from the left.

anyways, enjoy it!

You think it is ugly because of the windows?

Let me introduce you to the car's designer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italdesign

While I can respect your opinion on it's looks as Subaru has something of a history with quirky-looking vehicles, I can do nothing but laugh at your assertation as to the size of window split and it's effect on the car's overall visibility.

Ok, you pick a car, any car you like, and I'll pick mine. Post a pic and we'll determine which one has better visibility, aerodynamics, and structural rigidity so you don't go picking a convertable just to win the first category. ;)

Just FYI, the car sits low and that "huge pole" sits above eye level, unless you are some 7 foot tall basketball player. The windows are hardly "mini". I can crawl through them. Now the DeLorean, THOSE are mini. You can barely fit a cheeseburger through them.

I meant the posts that support the roof of the car. From the image posted it looked like they were about a foot wide. I know the one in my car annoys the hell out of me, even though it is only about 4 inches wide.

Thanks to the second image you posted, I see that it is tinting to help with the glare from the sun?

Are you saying you thought the tinted glass was opaque sheet metal?
:LOL::LOL::LOL:

Yeah I guess it can be a little fooly.
But yeah, no, the car is like a friggin greenhouse. :|

Ah, ok. But seriously, threads like these are why we need a motors forum. just a general spot to talk about things with wheels, wings, or engines.

yeah your welcome for driving your ass to tulsa :O

Aweh, <3 Richard. You gotta go in another ride in it with me sometime :p

*edit*

anyways, enjoy it!

You can easily avoid the whole flooding situation by reving it pretty high when you turn it off, to burn any access fuel up in the rotor housing. I've not had a single flooding issue yet. the guy at the dealer was hilarious..."I assume you've read up on this car?" "Yeah, I've owned an RX-7 as well." "Oh...you know more about it than me, then." I lol'd.

haha make that like 2ish..

OK, got done cleaning it, though could have been better, not bad for $3. Anyway, lets have some of the pics that actually turned out! :D

Really wish the others weren't so blurry, and I wish I coulda had my rim cleaner today...

I saw a dude with a silver rx8 driving on the highway on friday. He was an idiot, he tried to pass every single car during that rushhour, and barely got any distance, we caught up to him and passed him in a minute just staying in our lane.

It blends in perfectly with the streets.

How does it feel when you drive it? Hope it isn't too silent.

The 8's ride like a dream....it's handling more than makes up for its torque. However, they are unreal at high RPM's...

For such a small engine they pack quite the surprising punch.

But yeah, id have one, awesome cars. Best of both worlds, a sporty saloon, aswell as a weirdly usable 'family' car.

the mazda logo is both an M and an owls face right? that's what it looks like to me

As a matter of fact, it's too silent for me at idle right now. I'm used to a car with a 3" pipe back from the turbo...

I hope to put a Racing Beat exhaust on there in the coming months, so I can hear the true sound of the Rotary once again ;)

Yeah, I really miss the rotor shaped emblem, sadly. A few people have found it and put it on their 8's, but I don't feel like spending time and money to find it... :(

I didn't even have to open this thread to know what it'd be...Pitz's wankel boner.

Congrats :).

That last image is so striking, do you see the car in the reflection?

That's cool though. When I drive I like to be one with the car. It's the most confident way to drive, I think. And being aware of the surroundings, of course.

I guess I'm confused....the last image? The Rim?

And yeah, this car just binds you to it. It's such a great feeling, I don't think a car could top it, at this moment in time.

god damnit, now i want an rx8 or 7 so freaking bad...thanks a lot pitz, i was having fun with my golf but no you had to come here and wow us with the rx8....

<3

Just spreadin' the love! Debating about going outside, and trying to somehow grab a picture of the lightning + car...too bad it would be near impossible :(

I drove an rx8 at carmax one time, a lot of people talk about them like they make no power so if you want to pass somebody on the highway you have to shift to first. I really had no problems with the power, it felt fine to me.

I drove right after a storm, it was still lightly raining, and part of the carmax 'test course' involves an on-ramp that's a nice sweeping on-camber affair. So I downshift coming into it, turn in, I'm anticipating the back in step out just a hair, and right when I feel like it's going to go, I start to un-wide the steering wheel then BAM! the dashboard lights up, my power falls off, the car straightens up, and I suddenly remember that fancy new cars have all sorts of fancy electronics...like traction and stability control. I guess i need to get with the times. My youngest car is 13 years old :(

but I really liked the rx8, more so than I thought I would. I still think I'd like something smaller though :)

Yeah, the main reason people complain is the torque numbers. They over exaggerate that the car is just so slow because of it, but I do enjoy the 230hp *180 on the dyno*. You can weave your way in and out of traffic as needed well, as the car just hugs the road so well, and doesn't let go.

I do enjoy going back to my RX-7, as it's smaller and is lower to the ground. Great feeling with them both. <3

I'm happy that you bought the car you like.

But seriously...

... an RX-8?

Come on man... :frown:

You coulda just bought a Corvette for that.

To each his own. :) Still a cool ride.

i'd way rather have an rx8 than a corvette. I think an rx8 is more well rounded than a corvette, you have decent trunk space and can actually have passengers in it.

I'd buy a corvette only if i was rich, and i'd buy the Z06.

Not really a fan of the Z06 personally.

I'd much rather take the 430 horsepower base model LS3 and put in a $300 smog-legal cam and have 480 horsepower.

An interesting fact about the C6 Corvettes is that many people who track them actually start out with a base model and use it as opposed to the Z06 model with the LS7. Reasing being that the aluminum frame in the Z06 model can't take the punishment that the traditional frame can in the non-Z06 cars. I believe the C6's used for the Lemans series also doesn't use the Aluminum frame version.

/gag at corvettes. Why would I want a car everybody and their mothers own? *Along with Mustangs, Civics, etc*

That, and I belong to the Rotary.

But enough chit chat, let's add more pictures.

And this was going to be my favorite picture, except the lack of being able to select my "FSET" or whatever it's called. Stupid grain.
