Half-Life 2 is coming out very soon. I've upgraded my system including the monitor.

I am pretty computer savy... but here is the issue:

I bought a 22" NEC MultiSync FE1250+ BK

http://www.necmitsubishi.com/produc...ct=82&ClassificationFamily=1&Classification=1

What is the recommended Color Temp for Half-life 2?

EX: 5500K or 8500K or 6500K or 9300K...etc

Im sure Valve has a certain Color Temp that they build and test the game on! I just want to see HL2 the way it was supposed to be!

Thx

I'm currently set at 6500k...so...I suggest that.

9300 is most vivid for games in general, but it's more a matter of user preference. My advice is wait until you have the game and see which setting you like the best.

anyone know for sure... cause 9300k looks to "cool" or to much blue perhaps.

but then 6500K is to dim in general!

Wish Valve could give some 2 cents?

thx

I think 6500K is pretty much the standard these days. Most monitors I've used were set at 6500K by default. The good thing about 6500K is that the colours are a bit 'warmer', which is great for most games. If you want more visibility in dark areas you're better off using 9300K though. This worked pretty well for Doom3 as well :p

i love 9300k. 6500 is too...gold looking...idk...dim......err..i should sleep now

I use 9300 for everything. 6550 (yes i know, wierd, ghetto 5 year old monitor) feels...... wierd .. like the colors have all been made brighter and redder

EDIT : OMGWTFBBQ, i thought i knew just about everything about computer hardware, so i go into DC and set the monitor to 6550 to see what happens and WOW everything looked 10 times better! ...... sooo sad.....

Were do I find what my monitor is set to?

Just push one of the setup keys on your monitor.

Yo may have to navigate through some On-Screen Menus to find the "Color Temp" you'll see stuff like "RGB" "SRGB" "9300K" "6500K" ... ETC...Its in Here!

The monitor most likely has about 4 or 5 different modes, most do.

I'm using an Iiyama Vision Master, it has 4 or 5 different settings which can be set depending on what you're watching (DVD, Text etc). I've never messed about with the color temps, so I'm not sure what difference they would make to your HL2 playing experience.

am i the only one who likes 5500 the best?
looks more realistic since yellow is the color of the sun.

I can not find any settings to change this. I check under my on-screen menu and there is nothing.

The color temperature setting on your minitor is meant to adjust it for ambient light. Sunlight is 5600K, flourscent lighting is around 4000K, and incandescent bulbs are around 3000K.

So what you want to do is set your monitor close to whatever color temperature predominently illuminates your location. Best thing to do is fill the screen with white then adjust your settings for the cleanest looking white (just eyeball it. Try to eliminate as much color "shading" as possible.).

Alternatively, just pick whichever setting you find the most aesthetically pleasing. I prefer my colors slightly on the side of red which makes them appear richer and warmer.

Edit: The reason for the different color temperature measurents between your monitor and ambient ligth is due to the difference between reflected light and projected light.

Now I'm REALLY confused.

Dude, 5600K?... It's so dim you can barely see anything.
6500K, same thing.

Now ... I still got the options 7500K, 8200K, 9300K.

9300K is the Most Vibrant, but seems like it pushes blue a little, like Cool Ice , just a hair.

7500K ... Whites look like cream cheese. but no more cool blue push!
8200K seems ok, but Im not convinced.

Im so confused! WHICH ONE DID VALVE USE TO TEST WITH?

infact i will be getting a new monitor (most likely a CRT) in December and need to start doing some research on which are better brands and models out there these days.

I'll tell ya! I'm a system builder www.3dgoblin.com

#1: Mitsubishi Diamond Pro
#2: Lacie w\DiamondTron tube
#3: NEC w\DiamondTron tube
#4: A TOSS UP: Sony & IIayama
#5 Samsung

These are the top 5 CRTs in the Industry, price is out the door here as this is based purely on IQ!

Hope it helps! General Rule! Get a CRT with a DiamondTron tube!!!

And if money is no object the best CRT IQ ever seen is on this model! http://www.necmitsubishi.com/produc...t=347&ClassificationFamily=1&Classification=1

If your thread is about Hardware, it doesnt belong in the General Half-Life 2 discussion, this is why we have other categories on the forum.

Moved.

9300 is what I have been using. I used a custom combination of Red and Blue before that.

Never checked this before now, I'm using 9300. The other options are 6500 and 5000, way too dark/yellow/red. I can also adjust it manually, but I find 9300 is really the best, the whites look pure white to me.

I use 9300 but i just set my tft to 6500 and it all went orangry red lol... rubbish.
