New Doom 3 Screenshot from Doom3.com

Hey Raziaar if Doom has no original monsters can you please tell me what is un-original about this monster (and I dun wanna hear it looks like plastic, I belive the marine shot from that scan has put an end to that grype)

Whoa guys stop crying.
All he did was express his opinion, believe it or not some people don't think Doom3 looks that good. So what! Constantly calling him a fan boy won't change that. If Domm3 is in fact as good as we all hope it is then he will probably buy it and see that. Until then(raizar included) could we stop finding miniscule reasons to put down what will be two great games.

I know - both shall be great games. HL2 and Doom 3, and in the end that's what matters. I know all of us will eventually buy both these games.

OMG, the poor dude has to wear an iron thong to protect his...."privates"

I've seen that screenshot before and to me it looks like the ruins on Mars that the UAC are excavating. The lighting looks great in that shot as well as the little bit of fog at the back.
In defence of Raziaar (since he seems to be getting beaten to a pulp here), I think he is getting at how the monsters seem to be the traditional attacking monsters. They all *seem* to be made for the same few purposes (aside from the bosses) which are: scare and cause damage/pose a challenge by running at the player (the only differences in the monsters being generic things like speed, range, hp, etc and their looks).
In comparison, HL had monsters such as the barnacles (keep players alert of the environment), marines (more tactical gunfights), assassins, icthyosaurs, headcrabs, etc. (in addition to the more generic zombies and vortigaunts) which offered lots of variety in gameplay.
That said it isn't fair to compare a game that we haven't played to one that is already yadda yadda blah blah blah.

Oh, I've never seen "The Thing" actually.

Does it have upside-down spider babies?
nope.. neither does DOOM³. But DOOM³ does have wasplike babies, with great looking insect wings, 2 claws, no leggs and white eyes called "Cherub's"

For a webpage containing some doom3 monsters and disciptions then go here:

I don't think that is what he was getting at, but if he was he knows very little about Doom3. There is a ton of variety. Atleast as much(if not more) as hl2. The only reason people are giving him a hard time is because he isn't explaining his point of view.

I saw that like 10 minutes ago. The poster of the image wouldn't say what magazine it is from so I think it is fake.

yay! :D it's not fake because I saw the same ad in a magazine too, don't remember which one because I was in a store and I went through many PC mags. Will have a check later today, though.

Something tells me D3 is so near - that I can almost feel it!

It doesn't matter, Doom3 is basically done and will be out in August.

Probably the most im looking forward to see, there are no pictures of this guy in any of the screenshots, cant wait to see what hes going to look like in the new doom3 engine.

Sorry Raziaar. I wasnt intentionally singling you out pal ;)

That monster does look pretty fecking scary....especially in the setting that picture is in...Oh this game will be a joy for my heart

This dude isnt so much scary but he can make you jump for sure... http://d3c.ngz-network.de/contentimages/screenshots/imp.jpg. When i got the doom3 alpha like a 1.5 years ago i ran into one of them and it jumped at me so fast i didnt have time to shoot...i really did shit myself. That picture is from the 1.5 year old alpha, trust me so it looks kinda crap :p

Most doom3 screenies look turd and plastic < enter a knock here > because they are all old ...the newer screenshots look much better.

To bad the image quality is the suck.

The only real thing that bothers me about doom 3 is that they have slashed the polys for the monsters and the enviroments.

http://www.planetdoom.com/images/image.asp?screenshots/official/10l.jpg

You look at that, look at both of his hands, the legs have a sqaure looking property to them, you look at the pipes what is the face count on that? 6?

Let me know if you can get that close to an enemy in Doom 3 to count their poly's. Hehe.

The model looks so rigid and square because of the hard shadowing. It looks fifty times better moving. The majority of Doom 3's good looks stem from the lighting system. If you watch the same model from any number of the Doom 3 presentations lurking on the 'net (including the very first at a Geforce 3 presentation), you'd agree with me. :)

On a humorous sidenote, is it just me or are the nipples on that guy way too close to the center of his chest? Freak of nature, indeed! hehe

I think i heard them say a while back that they will have a low poly version and a high poly version for faster computers, or am i wrong ?

Hey, sorry Raziaar. I did not mean to dog pile on you there, it just gets under my skin when someone criticises a game using a subjective variable without explaining themselfs.

Lower poly = Better frame rate = A good thing

I would rather have a few polygons showing and get 30-45 fps than to have a very pretty image and get 15-20 fps.

If when the game ships we all are getting like 70-80fps then I would see reason to bash the low polygon limit ... but I would have to highly doubt that would happen!

I have to agree. The alpha (some of the screenies I've seen of it) looked like Far cry - shiny and plasticky. The new Doom 3 screenshots seem to have had a makeover - Cramack and co. finally seems to fix the unatural shinyness problems. :D

Yea, you only notice the poly edges in screenshots. When it's in motion and with the normal maps, it really looks like a very high resolution model and has all the detail of a 200,000 to 1,000,000 poly model. They have higher res models they will use for in-game cutscenes and stuff like that, where you would be getting in really close and getting a good look at the model.

I never remember reading that and I try to keep up on all Doom 3 info so I would not have my hopes up on that. However it IS possible to do so maybe they did do it ... or a MOD team allways could try to tackle it.

I remember only one article where they talked about putting that feature in and from the wording of the article it seemed it was still up in the air at the time. ... it would rock so much if it is in the game

Speaking of rock, has anyone heard anything more on the rumor that the band TOOL was doing something wiht Doom 3?

Yeah, making the D3 sound track. But rock isn't exactly the thing I'd like to hear when I'm being ripped apart by a 10 foot hell knight, though. :p

I think this shows quite a good improvement to just this one monster (Pinky)

If you look at this (very old screenshot)
http://d3c.ngz-network.de/contentimages/screenshots/pinkydemon.jpg

Then look at it again in this picture in the background (quite a new screenshot : Xbox one though), even from the distance you can see quite an improvement on the monster itself (look around the mouth area)
http://d3c.ngz-network.de/contentimages/screenshots/revenant.jpg

That pic of the Revenant with the Pinky in the background isn't an XBox shot. That's been around for months and is from the PC version.

Tool is supposedly doing a track or two for it. Doom3 won't have a traditional soundtrack like Quake3 did. You won't have random techno loops playing in the background like Quake3 and HL2. Doom3 will have ambient atmospheric sound. There might be some music during something like a boss fight, but other than that maybe a theme song and thats about it. Quake3/hl2 style music looping in the background would screw up the horror/survival atmosphere they are trying to create.

Speaking of rock, did anyone hear that The Rock is supposedly considering doing the DooM movie?

Let's hope that doesn't happen.

The Rock would be such a great choice and he even kind of looks like the Doom Marine. The Rock might not be a great actor but he is a great action star, there is a difference. And no I am not just a fan of The Rock, I outright HATE pro wrestling

Well I think he looks like the doomguy. I don't think it would be a bad thing at all if The Rock played the doomguy.

Personally I think Christian Bale could pull it off much better, as well as Michael Biehn and Tom Berringer although those two are a little old for the role now.

You know, this is the exact same thing Gabe said HL2 has. I see no reason how or why you should judge a soundtrack for a game that hasn't been released..

It's perfectly forgiveable, though, seeing as how you used the "you only notice that stuff in screenshots, in motion, it's way better" for Doom 3, when, the last time someone used that defense for HL2, you blasted them and said they were a blind fanboy, etc.

Tool are NOT doing tracks for Doom 3, it is purely Chris Vrenna. That is just a rumour thanks to Trent Reznor (NIN dude who was doing Doom 3 soundtrack) being bestest buddies with Maynard James Keenan (vocalist from Tool).

umm...for the record:
heads with legs + babys with wing + Skeletons with rocket launchers = piss poor monster design = no way on earth I'm buying the game, and even less of me playing it.
ever.

cryengion looks just as good, if not better, and farcry actually has OK looking monsters.

Erm. There are like, 3 different monsters in FC.. all of which have a very Doom 3ish look (infact, the huge Trigens look like direct ripoffs of Doom 3)

Besides, if you judge a game purely by the monsters in it.. I feel bad for you. You'll miss out on a piece of gaming history by being a blind fanboy and not buying a hit as great as D³

Yeh Shuzer i noticed that :p

If its doom 3 the screenshot dosent do it justice and you wont be able to notice it ingame.

If it's HL2 OMG!!! LOOK AT TEH LITE!!!

Yeah, because people who assume a game will be good without playing it aren't blind fanboys. Oh the irony. :p

I;'m not saying Doom 3 won't be good, I just find it just funny. :)
