There's still a long way to go until the game leaves all forms of discussion.

There's still time for a more ridiculous thread.

How to create a successful game series!

"Make a slightly mediocre FPS on a console that doesn't have any good FPS...check
Make a sequal with no updated graphix, and it's the same shit different game...check
Make ANOTHER game with SLIGHTLY upgraded graphics *With minor effects added on..ohh shiny!* and promote the **** out of it...check"

You = Fail.

You = Fail.

There's no way Cyber can fail! :D

I'm reserving judgement until it actually comes out, THEN i shall lamblast it with all the hatred in hell. Unless it's good. Then i'll save up the hatred for something else.

You can make any game sound horrible if you put it like that.

@Valve-
"LOL THE WHOLE GAME WILL BE YOU SHOOT THAN YOU SOLVE A PUZZLE YOU SHOOT THAN YOU SOLVE A PUZZLE AND SO ON. JUST ADD SOME ALIENS,SOME PHYSICZZZZ, AND WE HAVE OURSELVES A GAME GENTLEMEN!"

I never understand why anyone ever bothers posting halo threads here if all that happens is stupid posts like that :|
I didn't have to use all caps or poor grammar to prove my point :p
Or poor spelling...or misusing LOL...or inventing the word physiczzzz.

The fact is, Halo goes for an 'epic' feel because it has nothing to sell beyond it's story. If it wasn't for my curiosity regarding the end of the Halo universe I would not be buying this travesty of a game. I'm still trying to work out why I forced myself to slog through the indoor levels of Halo 2...

The only redeeming quality I see in Halo is that like Marathon, it is based in a rich universe.

As an FPS Halo never was, and by the looks of things never will be anything more than your average shoot-em-up.

If you could point me in the direction of shooters that do have more involved and challenging combat i'd appreciate it.

You are one of the only people i've met that thinks Halo is a godsend to the First Person Shooter genre. And i know tons of gamers in real-life, and none of them think its the best FPS they've ever played. Some with many people i've spoken to on the internet.

I've actually met more people who think Far Cry is a godsend, over people who think Halo is.

But since there is no way to convince you that there have been other games with more challenging and frantic combat than Halo (Because you're mind was obviously made up when you first finished the game) i suggest nobody bother trying to convince you otherwise.

Not fair - there are loads of people who rate Halo as highly as I do. It often seems otherwsie if you only frequent pc forums, though. Try going to a decent console gaming forum (NTSC-UK). Even on the Edge forum, usually full of hatefully snobby twats, there was a monster thread singing its virtues.

There are FAR more people who love Halo than Far Cry.

I didn't make my mind up when first finishing the game. Infact, I remember giving it a 7/10 and saying how hyped it was (irony?)). Two years later, after playing for 100's of hours in single player, co-op, and multiplayer lans with friends, my opinion had changed considerably. Any game with enough meat to last that long deserves at least some credit.

It's not as though I haven't looked for fps that could better Halo in single player combat either - it'd be wonderful if many games had surpassed it years ago. While many titles are FAR superior in virtually every other area, when it comes to pure fighting and challenge (what I look for a fps), Halo is still king of the castle.

Stop with this "they're alpha shots" BS

Compare the "alpha shots" of H3 with the "Alpha shots" of Crysis. Or the alpha shots of UT2007. Or Far Cry in its current state.

Now if I was developing Halo 3 I wouldn't be releasing alpha screen shots which show just how unfinished the graphical side of things are. Considering how long they've been developing. Unless of course all their efforts are towards new and exciting.... wait wrong company.

As for Halo game play my hide/shoot argument still wins to this day agains't the most seasoned Halo veterans I've talked to in real life. Throw me some challenging, evolving AI any day.

Low-res images = YAY!

Wtf? Yay? This is the 360 those images are an insult to its true graphical potential. If people start neglecting the full potential of the 360 it'll soon end up like the DS; crammed with crappy cartoony puzzlers and sh*tty remakes of sh*tty games.............however i am happy to see the return of the assault rifle from Halo 1

The only thing I can think of is that they've taken Halo 3 gameplay code and stuck it on the Halo 2 engine. That means they're play-testing the gameplay code before they've even remotely finished the renderer? If you know anything about game-development you'd know this is a very strange way of doing things. Usually you'd want your renderer all-but finished before you even think about writing the actual game. For several reasons, including so your artists know exactly what the engine is capable of so they can create assets within its constraints, you really need a stable engine base to start developing your game on. Developing a game without knowing exactly what your final engine will be is like building a house without first putting in the foundations. Well, maybe not quite that bad.

The Crysis engine was nearly finished when we first saw that engine, the Unreal 3 engine was nearly finished, Source was nearly finished too. You've also go to think about how much time Halo 3's got left in development, I'm betting less than a year. They've got less than a year left in development yet they haven't even finished the renderer...what!? We saw a near-finished Unreal 3 engine 2 years before it's release just to put it in perspective. To think that a games company would leave the engine till this late stage in the game, mind the pun, astounds me.

Dude those crappy cartoony puzzlers are some of the most addicting games I've ever played in my entire life :|

Also I think people aren't exactly getting the point of stating its an alpha shot. We all know it looks like shit. The screens do look like just an upgraded Halo 2, but some of you seem to think that now that you've seen these screens than Halo 3 is going to look exactly like that, which is annoying because you should be smart enough to know theres no way in hell thier going to release the final product looking like that.

I also still don't understand how anyone could possibly hate halo as much as you people do. Its ridiculuos. Halo is a fun game, its certainly not the masterpiece that thousands of 10 year olds claim it to be, but its a damn fun game.

SO HOW ABOUT THAT MAN CANNON? LOOKS LIKE FUN.

Yeah, they look cool. I wonder if they're meant to replace teleporters?

I hope so. I'd highly amusing trying to take out the flag carrier while he's being blasted across the map.

The concept art showing the 'Big ass cannon' at the back of the base and then at the front it says 'Mortar blast zone' (or something) sounds cool. The mounted machine guns were pretty pointless except if you caught a tank with it's back to you, then they were stupidly effective. Other than that your just easy prey for a rocket or a sniper.

Hop in the lowrider, as long as it got bitches in the back.

shiny graphics do not a good game make.

I got so bored with halo 2 I never even finished it.

I hope so. I'd highly amusing trying to take out the flag carrier while he's being blasted across the map.
Hmm, I didn't think of that aspect. When you have the flag, do you try a slower, stealthier on-foot escape, or launch yourself halfway across the map in seconds for all to see? Now I'm thinking the mancannons will be better than the teleports :D

Anti: Yeah, after about a month online I never touched the stationary MGs. My hope right now is that they turn into something along the lines of the stationary chainguns in Gears of War, rather than the measly half-a-Warthog-MG that they are currently.

But it isn't repetitive - at least if you're into the combat and playing at a decent setting. The reason I keep rabbiting on about Halo is because the fighting always felt different and offered something new.

Unless theres some kind of ever changing objective and place to be that's a no. The fighting will always feel different no matter what game your playing. Cause? You yourself are playing differently that's you no the game.

In all my Halo debates I have never said there was a better game, not one. I still have to say whatever uber combat HALO has it's pretty sucky from my experiences. Halo 1 was bad enough but 2 was much worse.
