;( wow...

I could barely tell which ones were photographs and which weren't. Amazing.

if these are in game.. then these are THE BEST graphics ever made in a game.

After going through all of them, this is ridiculous. Which ones are concept art and which aren't?? Some of these are impossible...

what a great surprise, i love the ones with the bridge and lighthouse, thats awsome.

I don't believe these images will be in-game, just like the DX9 Demo Movie and the G-Man movie, there are just too damn good to be able to run at any resonable framerate with an abundance of characters around.

I'm drooling nevertheless.

Are those detailed textures in this screenshot (the crack in the road), since so many people have been complaining that there are no detailed textures in HL2 and CS:S

These are in game, except the obvious concept art pieces and photographs.

As much as I would like the first "Infrastructure" pic to be in-game, that's a photo.

Same for the brown freight train pic.

It would be cool to get the PowerPoint slides for the presentation, or even its video recording.

some of them have aliasing, and thats how you know they are from the game i think.

15, 16, 17, and 24 are my favorites rofl, all ingame, i hate it when this happens, now i want the game now, not in 5 mins, NOW!""$L{$

Looks like normal mapping to me.

Picture ? No.
Render No.
Obviously its...A SNEAK-PEEK OF HL3!!!!!

You have to give Valve credit. When people are fooled into thinking photographs are in-game, you know the graphics are amazing.

People would never confuse Doom III with photo-realism.

It's pretty obvious what is in the game, and what is not. And there is nothing really new there... maybe different angleb, but all pictures look familiar.

And there's nothing extra special about the graphics either. (well, it's cool and all, but nothing we haven't seen from previous shots.)
The in-game-shots all are taken from a perfect angle on ultra settings (including HDR). But even then you still see all those same rows of windows over and over again. No details there.

Summary: I'm not bashing HL2 here, but I just don't really see what the big deal is and why people are once again shouting it's ultra-amazing?

well obviously.. lots of these are ingame.. and the engine *is* capable of this... so there will be a setting that allows the game to look that good.. as long as you have the hardware.

I wonder why some parts of the bink videos don't look as solid as this stuff..

Its all in the art direction, Stalker has similar comitment to its overall feeling of reality, some games focus to hard on trying to be the most powerfull engine rather than acctully making somthing good with it.

Out of FarCry, Doom 3, and HL2, I think HL2 screens try to be most realistic, for what it's worth.

I dont see how people say the gfx for HL2 look bad. I'm overly impressed with them. The levels dont have extremely high poly counts all the time, but the execution of those polies, textures, and special maps make it gorgeous, and the most realisitc gfx I've seen to date.

Well, it's getting mighty close to looking real, anyways...

the generation of games AFTER the current generation (HL2, D3) will look so awesome :)

Theese pictures look like theyve blurred a bit or something their just amazing

They're all in-game shots, of course. I don't see why they'd show 12 or so in-game, then a few of real photographs...pretty stupid.

These look really amazing. Let's hope my rig can hack it!
