Are you fasting HL2 screens??
LoL.....LoL

and yes my hype meter just went thru the roof cause I wasnt sure If I should upgrade BiG now for the best looking HL2 or wait longer, after seeing these Im glad I made a big purchasenow....simply amazing valve!

When we have trouble spotting the difference between photographs and in-game shots.... that's HL2.

If HL2 ACTUALLY looks that good, I will personally have to stop playing to leap around the room and yell 'HALF LIFE TWO IS AWESOME!!' at the top of my voice.

I hope it looks that good outside of X800XT hardware...

I suspect this to be more of that techdemo they have and that it will run like 5fps on an x800XT.
I strongly suggest people NOT to expect this quality when playing the game.
Itll only hype the game into impossible levels.
It DOES look awesome tho :)

Um, no.

They are ingame screenshots. Why wouldn't they be? The HL2 engine can handle it.

It's hard to tell the photos and game shots apart sometimes. :D

25 hours of gameplay and 50 hours of Ooogling (with a capital O )

True.

Dare I say HL2 is closest to being photorealistic.

I really like the east-european environments :) cant wait to see and walk thru them in HL2

You could say Both HL2 & Stalker have similar photorealistic details build in

I agree! :bounce:

Stalker and HL2 are the most realistic games I've seen in ages!...

I think he means the way the sun is blooming over the branches of the tree...

wow, some of those images made my jaw drop. so much variation in design,, 'drool'

koolies

:) its even got some of us confused with the real photo comparison's  .

although I can tell the difference :farmer:

I think he means the way the sun is blooming over the branches of the tree...

I think he actually means that thick blade grass in the forground on the left, that does look like a light refraction.

Wow, that's increadible! This is going to be one hell of a game! I CAN'T WAIT for it to be released.

And clarky... Wanna try to recreate one of those screens? ;)

The HL 2 engine might handle it, but the PC's that are out now wont. :frog:

A: Half-Life 2 will not have any Terrain Deformation, but it can be enabled or used in mods. On a side note, Team Fortress 2 will have Terrain Deformation.

YAY for Teamfortress 2!

*dances*
decades of starvation and TF-Clones may end soon

PEOPLE! STOP OVERHYPING YOURSELF! The screenshots in this thread (not the photographs) are all taken from a perfect angle on a perfect machine with perfect circumstances. And even then all windows look the same and stuff like that (it's extremely obvious what is ingame and what is not, just try looking at them in an objective manner (as opposed to "WOAHPHOTOREALISMOHMYGODOMGOMG")).
I'm not trying to be negative, and HL² WILL look good, but you guys are setting yourself up for dissapointment if you think the whole game is gonna be like those perfect shots.
Just try look at them objectively.
Overhyping like this is generally a bad idea, don't overdo it. It's a lose - lose situation.

Dude, almost all screenshots that developers put out are from the best angles. We're used to it, and it doesn't matter because those still look damn cool.

nah.. I doubt it'll be photorealistic. Someway to that, but close.
Ok, HL2 has better gfx than doom 3. But the biggest difference is that Doom3s gfx look arteficial, to many round edges kindo'w. HL2 looks more like the real world.

While they look impressive, ok, drop-dead awesome, you have to keep in mind these have their sizes slashed, so what you see is not necessarily what you get when you play at resolutions 1024+. I can already see some blurring on textures close up in the smaller shots, imagine it being enlarged 1.6+ times.

Yes but the point is that these screenshots look better than anything I have seen released for any game coming including DOOM 3 and Stalker whose developers used the same technique when publishing screenshots. Also if you have seen the latest bink video everything looks awesome and that is a video of actual game play.

Yup the "hazy effect" on that tree is HDR in all it's glory. Dunno what people are on about refractions, reflections and whatnot. Sure HDR works with all that stuff, but it's principally about very bright light "bleeding" into surrounding objects. The tree is a perfect example. Look at the bottom right hand branch and how it's almost completely faded.

:)
