They're all in-game shots, of course. I don't see why they'd show 12 or so in-game, then a few of real photographs...pretty stupid.

There are photos mixed in there. The point of the presentation was to show their inspirations and references used, and compare them to the in-game GFX.

Those graphics are hot-hot. The only thing missing is multiple-sourced dynamic shadows.

These look really amazing. Let's hope my rig can hack it!
You really think they're all in game? They show a real photo next to a HL2 in game shot to demonstrate how similar the architecture and lightning is the real world shots.

If you actually think all the shots are ingame i would very much like to subsribe to the drug you are taking.

Some people can be easier to please than you are, obviously its a mix, but i like to think this proves (at least to me) u dont need dynamic shaddows to create amazing graphics right now, and me wants to explore this game soon before my head explodes.

I love the texture detail/creativity in these pictures, but I still want to see more geometry detail in them.

If you notice, there are no NPC's or anything that is not fixed geometry in these screenshots. Noticing shadow inconsistenices would be impossible with these screenshots.

Sorry somtimes when browsing forums i suddenly feel the need to argue my opinion by moaning at others for forcing theres onto people, which is exactly the same thing, which is all pointless cause everyones gonna have there own opinions about the game, and game engines in general, its not worth the hassle, IMO, great art direction, want game now, thats me done :D

Great, so we both agree that we need HL2 now. :D

Those shots are f*ckin' impressive. I've been known to deride the Source engine in the past, but if the HL2 actually looks like that nothing can stand in its way.

Wow, i thought HL2's graphics couldn't impress me anymore. I was wrong

We're gettin's closer and closer to matrix-like realism. It's fake, but it looks real.
If only virtual reality had graphics this good...

I've cut myself off from all new or old HL2 media until its release.
But I like what I'm hearing:)

P.S. Shame one you all for doubting Source;)

There are no new areas, just different shots mixed in with some old screens.

Ya but I cut off all HL2 media period.
( Excluding CSS of course:) )

Man the term "graphics" is really becoming blurred

Doom3 has VERY NICE graphics... but not "photorealistic" graphics

I think HL-2 is much closer to a photorealistic realism that other games... but i think that is largely in part due to the enviroment of the game (real-world like settings... lots of "in the field" pictures and stuff to get the real world feel down)

i'm impressed :)

It looks like HDR technology is doing an amazing job!! :D

It looks like the HL2 hype engine is starting to rev up again.

Ya but Gandhi was fighting for something, what could a HL2 fan be fighting for? :p
To enjoy HL2 in all its goodness by non-violent protest.

I think thats an in-game pic. Look at the windows on the closest building they look too flat like just a flat texture plus look at the walls doesnt look real-life but more like a render!

Real, no way Source can do it like that. The shadows are way to soft, not even Unreal 3 can do shadows that good.

Heh, I'm not sure. When you look at the stuff in the foreground it looks like a render because of the shadows and the fact that it looks like textures but when you look at the background it seems far too detailed and too much like a photo to be from a render (plus the shadows don't look like something I thought HL2 could do).

Its hard to tell with that one.

EDIT: Its like they took a render and placed it in front of a photo. Of course I could be very wrong.

%100 sure it's a photo.

Although it does look like it's a render put in front of a photo like Mully said...

Nahh.. looking at it.. Definatly %100 photo.

I think its a transition with the left side being a in-game render and the right side a real photo.

yup ... therye just comparing teh uber real render and teh real building

http://www.planethalflife.com/screenshot.asp?src=/features/articles/sigg04/phl_c17_Slide02_hi.jpg .... holy shit. this is what video games are all about. or should be. pics like this should quiet all of those who keep bringing up all of those shadow bug problems and what not. scenes like this one which depict such a lifelike city are amazing. i feel the hype growing again, and i think this game will have a huge impact on the gaming scene. nothing, whether it be stalker, fear, doom 3 or whatever can touch the art direction of valve. because at the end of the day, thats what makes me feel like a game is "real." not the cold, mechanical graphics engine behind it.

Most of them are old.

However, the new ones are good.

I could barely tell which ones were photographs and which weren't. Amazing.

Me too ^^

I think some of them were real photo comparison shots, but you could hardly tell between them anyway...

gooooooooood i told you some of you people half lifes graphics were gonna blow you away but nooooooo :-D :farmer:
