New ipod shuffle is laughable

well lets compare aplles to apples no? when the new sansa clip comes out we can compare it to the new shuffle. the direct competitor is the old shuffle not the new one

Sansa doesn't need to release a new clip. The old one blows all shuffles out of the water.

not neccessarily, the apple customer =/= sansa customer

It would make more sense to look at it from the perspective of a person with no brand preference. The Sansa Clip is a direct competitor to the shuffle. I would say this places it into the same demographic.

it's still twice the size of the shuffle, I can clip a brick to my shirt it doesnt make it the same thing

Except a brick would weigh your shirt down, whereas the 0.9oz clip would not.

the whole idea behind the shuffle is you clip and go. you dont touch the buttons because that's the whole point of it being called the SHUFFLE. hands free because all music is randomly shuffled. It's not a small ipod, it's an ipod made simple for hands free use most of the time

The clip can also do shuffle, and once it's on, all you have to do is press play. You don't even have to turn shuffle feature off if you don't want to. Seems pretty clip and go to me.

which will be out shortly after the shuffle hits the market ..which is my point; accessory makers flock to each iteration of ipod because of it's market share.

Your response makes no sense in the context of the statement you're responding to.

:upstare: you dont get the ****ing point behind the shuffle.

:upstare: you dont get the ****ing point of sarcasm.

look unlike you people I dont give a crap what people buy ..they can buy cynide for all I care (and I often hope some people would). every single time a new ipod comes out thiere's a thread posted with people hgating on the latest ipod. why the **** do you people care? really do you people rail at honda because they make a better product than GM even though GM is cheaper? or fill the internets with discussions on why one bread is better than the other due to price or whole wheat goodness? no, this sort of immature ranting is reserved for companies like apple

Wow, must have struck a nerve somewhere. If you don't give a crap, then why are you so vehemently defending the shuffle like some strategically placed apple viral marketing ploy? It's obvious by this last paragraph that you're either frustrated or angry about said ranting, yet you're calling me immature when I've kept my cool the whole time.

I think the reason Apple gets so much hate is due to it's snot nosed PR campaign that's essentially just asking for it. In general, I don't so much hate Apple products as I hate the apple "attitude" that seems to come attached to them.

nope that cant be it because the hate predates their pc bashing commercials by almost 20 years. in fact it's been around since pretty muich day one. anyways this doesnt explain the hate for ipods. The simplest explanation is that people dont like it when people/things are on top or fanboyism (it's a two way street). ..I mean really what other possible motive could there be? apple doesnt in any way shape or form compete with say Microsoft, they own 5% of the computer market share ..so why all this irrational hate towards apple since pretty much day one? people are never threatened by a company with only 5% of the marketshare ..there has to be something else. it's not the commercials (pc vs mac commercials specifically)

Might I mention that I once owned an ipod nano? Would I have purchased one if I was a fanboy like you assume I am? No, I would not have. The whole point of this thread was to point out how poorly designed and crippled the new shuffle is, yet you still have to pay a premium price for it. But thanks in part to you, it's now been taken out of context.

you've compared the two? please copy paste your research documents with sources

It would make more sense to look at it from the perspective of a person with no brand preference. The Sansa Clip is a direct competitor to the shuffle.

no, it's the answer to the shuffle in the catagory of "also in a subcompact format" or "in answer to the popularity of the shuffle" ..direct competition it is not, cheap alternative it is

I would say this places it into the same demographic.

nope not at all. you yourself have said apple is about style. the consumer apple is going for and sansa is going for is two different demographics ..if they were in the same demographic sansa would market their products differently.

Except a brick would weigh your shirt down, whereas the 0.9oz clip would not.

in comparison to the shuffles 0.38oz it would ...not too mention looking like you have a garage door opener clipped to your shirt

The clip can also do shuffle, and once it's on, all you have to do is press play. You don't even have to turn shuffle feature off if you don't want to. Seems pretty clip and go to me.

it's in the "also has" department

Your response makes no sense in the context of the statement you're responding to.

yes it does, you just dont understand what I'm saying

:upstare: you dont get the ****ing point of sarcasm.

which doesnt change the fact that you dont get the point behind the shuffle

no you havent "struck a nerve" ..I dont even like the shuffle and have no desire to get one. I have a nano and a colour ipod 4G and a shuffle which my wife uses. No I'm just tired of people consistantly chewing out apple at every opportunity whether justified or not ..especially when they do so complete unaware of how hypocritical they are. Also reading comprehension: I didnt call you immature, try reading that sentence again

*shrug* That's where MY dislike for Apple comes from, and I think it is well based. I can't and have never claimed to speak for the rest of the world.

you've compared the two? please copy paste your research documents with sources

I'll ask you do to do the same in support of the shuffle. However, my fiancee owned a G2 shuffle and my sister the clip, so I've had hands on experience with both. How about you?

no, it's the answer to the shuffle in the catagory of "also in a subcompact format" or "in answer to the popularity of the shuffle" ..direct competition it is not, cheap alternative it is
It has a built-in clip, it is highly portable, light weight, and yes, it is cheaper compared to Sandisk's other mp3 offerings. This is quite similar to the shuffle as compared to Apple's other ipods. Sandisk has 3 models of mp3 players: the View, the Fuze, and the Clip. Each one inhabits a separate niche, and within each niche is also an ipod and other comparable mp3 players (the creative zen stone is yet another shuffle competitor). You also seem to be under the impression that the shuffle was designed solely for those who need an mp3 player for working out. Nowhere on the feature page for the new shuffle does it stress this:

http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/features.html

There are people who use the shuffle as their main mp3 player, so wouldn't it make more sense for them to own a cheaper and more feature complete clip?

nope not at all. you yourself have said apple is about style. the consumer apple is going for and sansa is going for is two different demographics ..if they were in the same demographic sansa would market their products differently.

Please point me where I claimed that apple is about style

in comparison to the shuffles 0.38oz it would ...not too mention looking like you have a garage door opener clipped to your shirt

It doesn't though, I've tested it on my shirt collar and it's not heavy enough to weigh your shirt down.

it's in the "also has" department

And can still function just as the shuffle does if the user has a desire for it.

yes it does, you just dont understand what I'm saying

Or perhaps you could have phrased it better. If you're referring to the inevitable adapters that would allow you to use your own headphones later on, that would tack on anywhere from $10-$30 to the final price of the player, considering that it must include apple's 8A83E3 chip for device authentication. Or you could just get the clip and pay one low price and no messing around with adapters.

which doesnt change the fact that you dont get the point behind the shuffle

The point of the shuffle is to be ultra portable and simple to use, and this is also the point behind the clip. However, the clip trades size for features while still maintaining it's portability and ease.

no you havent "struck a nerve" ..I dont even like the shuffle and have no desire to get one.

I've never chewed out an apple product until the new shuffle hit the news. Sure I've chewed out Apple itself for it's Mac ad campaign, which I sincerely hated for the negative light it cast on PC users, but never a product up until now. I should haved chewed out the nano for the amount of times it froze on me, but I just decided to avoid ipods for that reason instead.

I'm off to work, we can continue this lovely discussion later if you please.

surely the only real consideration is whether you use itunes for your music library or purchasing music? if you do then you buy the shuffle as im pretty sure Apple wont let you use anything but their gear... seriously though who cares? buy the product you want or that best suits your needs and live your own life people! :)

people should'nt 'take sides' over trivial issues such as which hardware is best like pcs/macs, xbox/playstation - they're just tools, not your first born. none of the products people behave like this over are genuinely as shit as pretend are they? so why get so worked up over it.

/wants itouch but wont buy it as his current ipod only gets used at gym (oooh! ?200 gadget sitting either on my shelf gathering dust or in my pocket - thus negating the advantage of a touch-screen)

in comparison to the shuffles 0.38oz it would ...not too mention looking like you have a garage door opener clipped to your shirt
And so what, when they release an even smaller 0.1oz iPod, the previous one suddenly becomes way too bulky and heavy? That makes no ****ing sense. Either it weighs your shirt down or it doesn't. There's a certain point you reach in the weight/size where it becomes clippable to your shirt. Both are. End of story.
every single time a new ipod comes out thiere's a thread posted with people hgating on the latest ipod. why the **** do you people care? really do you people rail at honda because they make a better product than GM even though GM is cheaper? or fill the internets with discussions on why one bread is better than the other due to price or whole wheat goodness? no, this sort of immature ranting is reserved for companies like apple
Many people have given valid points as to why this new shuffle would be a stupid buy. Personally, I could not live with being forced to use the shitty headphones that come with the unit. That was a stupid move by Apple. If we can clip it to our shirts for easy access (as opposed to fumbling around in our pockets), why the **** do we need to move the buttons to our headphones. And if you're going to bring in the 'how retarded do you look' argument ("garage door opener") I'd much rather ****ing be seen hitting buttons on my little box that has wires coming out of it to my ears (everyone will know what you are doing) than have my hands up to my ears like I'm trying to be a mindreader.

Why don't we rant about new cars and bread? Wake up, Stern, you're on a forum dedicated to a PC game. We're nerds here. Did you not realize this? Have you wandered outside of the retirement home again?

But you're wrong anyway, people here do not bash every Mac product just for the hell of it. Many people here own iPod Touches or regular iPods, or even iPhones.

If you want to talk about company bashing, look at Sony. Though that has died down a lot.

Needless to say, it's not just blind unjustified fury.

I'll ask you do to do the same in support of the shuffle. However, my fiancee owned a G2 shuffle and my sister the clip, so I've had hands on experience with both. How about you?

not once have I claimed either is superior to the other

It has a built-in clip, it is highly portable, light weight, and yes, it is cheaper compared to Sandisk's other mp3 offerings. This is quite similar to the shuffle as compared to Apple's other ipods. point out where I say it's designed for working out ..I said it's designed to hit the shuffle and forget. stop putting words in my mouth

There are people who use the shuffle as their main mp3 player, so wouldn't it make more sense for them to own a cheaper and more feature complete clip?

cheaper by $5? does Sansa have a itunes and itunes store? that's gotta be worth $5? also why dont you ask them why?

Please point me where I claimed that apple is about style

my mistake I confused you with someone else

It doesn't though, I've tested it on my shirt collar and it's not heavy enough to weigh your shirt down.

it doesnt matter if it does or not, it's the shuffle's main feature, the sansa's main selling feature is price. Remember this commercial:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syTkaSYUYvM

that's the shuffle's selling point ..functionality is meaningless except in it's ability to "shuffle" songs

And can still function just as the shuffle does if the user has a desire for it.

"also has" department. the sansa's selling point is price or else sansa would be the market leader if it were all based on features

Or perhaps you could have phrased it better. If you're referring to the inevitable adapters that would allow you to use your own headphones later on, that would tack on anywhere from $10-$30 to the final price of the player, considering that it must include apple's 8A83E3 chip for device authentication. Or you could just get the clip and pay one low price and no messing around with adapters.

but it looks like a garage door openeer ..you forget this little point because it's the biggest selling feature of the shuffle

The point of the shuffle is to be ultra portable and simple to use, and this is also the point behind the clip.

not applesfault that Sansa hasnt communicated this to the consumer ..or else sansa would be the market leader

However, the clip trades size for features while still maintaining it's portability and ease.

which is a good blurb to put on the back of a box but doesnt sell anywhere near the unit the shuffle does. good advertising works for a reason: it targets exactly what YOUR needs are regardless if it's factual or not

I've never chewed out an apple product until the new shuffle hit the news. Sure I've chewed out Apple itself for it's Mac ad campaign, which I sincerely hated for the negative light it cast on PC users,

who cares? it's an ad from a company that has 5% of the market share ..why does this in any way matter to anyone except people who naturally hate apple? I dont hate either company and I find them well done and humourous. I also think the commercials somewhat backfire because the PC guy is loveable in a way and not unlikeable enough to breed real contempt for microsoft

but never a product up until now. I should haved chewed out the nano for the amount of times it froze on me,

I've had a nano for 2 years, never frozen..obviously neither of our experiences are typical of ipod users ..it's somewhere in between

but I just decided to avoid ipods for that reason instead.

again I dont care what you use or what you dont use
