I have to say it sounds like it's shaping up to be a good or atleast decent game.:cheese:

Edit: New preview at IGN too! http://pc.ign.com/articles/712/712884p1.html

It's only too bad eating(and sleeping) no longer are necessary, I'd really like it if they were, just collecting a bunch of food and bunkering up in one of the highrises apartments with a balcony, barricading the door, and going out there to eat, sniping a few monsters perhaps :p

Im still getting this game on release no matter what.

Same, I've waited too long to not get this game!
I just hope someday, some company gets to do a game that's a survival simulator like STALKER was supposed to be, it's kinda too bad imo that they sent in Dean Sharpe to make the game 'fun' but I can understand that they need to sell sell sell, so I guess my best hope for a game in STALKERs similiar vein will probably be an indie game delivered through Steam or something like that, where the big dev can't go in and say "I want you to remove xxx put in xxx and bake me some pie."

ditto.

anyway, i'm dying for them to release it, boiling point was such a let down. :(

any word on if they'll be providing editors and other tools for people to make mods ? i'd sure love to see some community mods (see: enhancements) after it's released.

good to see its alive and breeding! I really want this game to get finished now!

Gargantou, are you referring to the rumor that they removed eating and drinking? It was confirmed to be just that: a rumor. Eating is still in.

Not getting it until I see some positive reviews.

I never said they removed eating and drinking, HOWEVER, it is NOT necessarily to do regulary in any form, all eating does is restore health, all drinking does is cure radiation poisoning, i.e. you don't have to eat/drink something every day to survive..
Please read the previews that I linked to!!>_<

I quote IGN.

"Originally, players were going to have to eat and sleep to stay alive, but those features have been eliminated altogether. While eating is still possible to regain some health, it's not something that will interfere with the core elements of play."

Honestly, I couldn't give a rats ass about eating and drinking if it's not survival-based, i.e. you have to eat regulary or your skills deteroiate and you can finally die..

"changes that have been made to make sure players are focusing on the fun of the gameplay rather than micromanagement of little things."

This was one of the things I was looking FORWARD too, having to keep in mind how much food and water I have left, having to scoure for these supplies, barter for'em etc, to always make sure I have enough to make it through the day.

I read the biggest English STALKER fansite, Oblivion-Lost.com so I'm always up to date on the news mate.:)

awsome, added it to my feb 2007 shopping list. :D

It would have been an awesome feature indeed, I can imagine it being added as a mod though or who knows, in a future patch.

Starting to feel like Duke Nukem here. It was all big news then suddenly dissapears for like a year.

Looks good though, shame about the deletion of the whole staying alive thing. It WAS original and WOULD work. What other game has a selling point like it does/did?

Anyway, ill be getting it. Also, cant wait for Dark Messiah of Might and Magic..stupid name but looks just as good.

I hope that fly-by feature doesn't make it into the game. That sounds incredibly lame. I think the most important thing is that the open-endedness stays intact, it seems they still have that faction stuff, which is good. Did anyone notice the "similar games" part on the GameSpot preview? The first one is DNF:laugh:

:D

Imo even though the engine is quite old it still has that nice crisp look to it, similar to HL2's style, and the detail on the power plant is just wonderful.

Mainly looking forward to having a wonder around chernobyl, you know.. see the sights, and perhaps having a laugh at some mutant freaks along the way.

I still hope NPCs can do the RANDOM QUESTS that have you search for artifacts etc, those're randomly generated and having NPCs competing on some of'em would be sweet.. Anyway, one of the first things I'm gonna do is go into a full flyby spectator mode(With the console, invisibility, noclip) and just fly around and watch the A-Life interact, it's gonna be awsome to just take one STALKER and follow him around for a day or so.:)

If you want a survival simulator, you should try out Wilderness. It's the most realistic game I've played, for sure. It's from 1984, though, and text/parser-based with very primitive graphics, but if you don't mind that, it's a real treat. Among other things, it asks for the size of your body frame, your weight, height and heart rate. Those things in turn affect loads of factors such as stamina, speed, and how well you cope with certain diseases. You have to make sure to wear thick socks when it's cold out to prevent frostbite, you can only carry a certain weight in supplies before you fatigue yourself, you can make various tools to aid your survival, you have to boil water to make sure that it's safe to drink, and so on.

It's ironic how much you can learn about survival from a computer game. I'm not saying that it beats real experience, but it can be very helpful all the same.

Sorry for the OT.

I've played Wilderness, thanks for the recommendation though, I enjoyed it greatly, someone should do a fanremake of that game that had an UI or such so you didn't have to use text-based commands :)

Looks realy nice. First I thought it was a mod for HL2.
