EA today announced that it will debut the next-generation edition of Madden NFL Football in a 60-second spot this Saturday. The ad will be shown during the first hour of the NFL Draft, which begins 9am Pacific Daylight Time. The ad will only run once during the broadcast.

EA did not mention which next-generation console the footage would be from, but circumstantial evidence points towards the next Xbox, most commonly referred to as the Xbox 360.

Cool, hope somebody records this and accidentally uploads it

Will be nice to see some footage from the next gen consoles, even if it is crappy yank football.

This is really exciting, but not because it's Madden.
We're actually going to see some next-gen console footage and this makes me soooo very happy.

Man, E3 is right around the corner! I can taste the gaming goodness already! :D

I can't get over the name... "Xbox 360". That's just lame.

I'm interested to see how this game will look.

Xbox 360 is a fairly cheesy name.

Xenon is such a cooler name!!! ;)

Can't wait for this.

lePobz I totally agree ;) I hope someone "accidently" uploads this and gives it to us :D I doubt I will remember to watch TV at that time.

By the way, this should be on between 12:00 and 1:00 EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). :)

Meh I was thinking of recording the Draft just to see this... But wow, what a stupid idea wasting DVR space on that of all things!

Gah, I wish I could watch the draft to see who my Niners pick, but I'm working :( .

Watching the ad would be cool too :) .

Cool. I'll have to check it out. They're starting the ad campaign pretty early huh?

The question is what will they show....will it just be cinematic sequences from the game with maybe some pro athletes endorsing the madden franchise for the 60 secs or will we actually see "in game" video, this is what i wanna know....but ill be for sure watching for it come sat cause Im planning on watching the draft regardless course Im a jock but I luv games as well especially madden.

Hmmmm, if you ask me it will just be a pre rendered VMU, I don't think you will see anything ingame. Especially not from EA and to say its on TV as well.

well the 'xbox' was a pretty crap name when it came out too. You guys'll warm to it

as nice as these pre-renderds are, i wanna see in-game shots, unless this is an in-game shot, in which case i shall proceed to punch myself in the dick

OMG ROFL.........and yeah that is what i wanna know also.

I kind of suspect that that first shot is from an in-game shot, or from a nengine-rendered cutscene. If you look at the far-right edge of his helmet, the curve looks like it's only made of about five vertices.

Either that, or EA uses some merely okay CG models.

Look ingame to me. you can see some sharp edges on the model, and the people in the backround are sprites, if you were doing pre-renders, you wouldn't do that.

Remember, the GPU of the next xbox (it's being built by ATI) is 3-5 TIMES the power of the fastest x800 you can buy currently... Just think about that. Then add 3 x 3.0GHz CPU's in this thing.

The thing is a beast, I'm sure it can easily handle that :p

Wow Im starting to think more and more that these are in game.... :bounce: holy hell I tell yeah these next gen systems are just simply amazing I can not wait for e3 and I really cant wait to get my hands on one of these systems I really hope that we at least will get the xbox360 this year.

Thats gonna be so sick, is the Xbox 360 or whatever gonna be up in the thousands of dollars because 3-5 times faster than the x800 and a processor thats 3 times faster than the 3.0 GHz has got to cost some money. I cant wait to play this game, especially sence its football.

That's simply not going to be the case. It'll be like the Xbox - lose money on hardware, make it up on games.

I'll be going to E3 this year. I registered last night! :D Hopefully I can get my hands on one.

C'mon guys...the graphics suck...I mean...look at those pictures... they uh....suck..

Ok they kick ass...and it's gonna be really tempting to purchase Xbox 360 or PS3...

Sometimes I wonder where I keep getting the money from for me to even be able to cosider thinking about buying all the new games and consoles and handhelds.

with the hardware that's being talked about here, i simply don't understand how they can sell these things for under 1000bucks. Im talking US here, id expect a thing like this to be over 1300 NZD.
How do they do it? im thinking mass, mass production, but still, the way its going, these next gen consoles are going to put my A643200+, 1gb, 6800GT to the sword. I just can't get my head around it.

Who says the faster it is, the more expensive? Ever hear of buying in bulk? GREATLY reduces the price (trust me, buying 10,000 glow buttons costs a lot less per item, then buying 500 or something)

Analysts have suggested around 250-300 bucks for the Xbox 360! Probably around 500 dollars for the expensive, top of the line versio of the 360 that is supposedly having WebTV, email, internet, music, etc etc... The true media hub M$ wants.

Want proof that they will possibly sell for that low of a price?

To often, you guys equate prices and hardware into the PC world. Sure the 360 has the same guts, but it has a totally different use. Can you believe the thing only has 256mb of ram? The reason being is that you don't have to waste it on Windows and such. It's 256mb for pure games (well a small portion for the GUI, but that's not a significant hit)

How can 256 be enough? Half-Life 2 takes up around 400-500K on my computer at 1280x1024 resolution. And if this machine supports hi-def (and it better), then how is that going to be enough RAM?

Awesome! Hopefully that price point stays. I thought we were going back to the early days of $600-800 consoles. (Jaguar & 3DO)

Hmm. In game or pre-rendered? Thatd be awesome if it was in game.

That has to be in game. Unless it is the opening sequence of the game, in which all games usually have better graphics there than the game.

256 is enough, because the Xbox doesn't need a resource-hogging, multi-tasking, multi-function OS running along with the game. It just needs to play the game.

256MB system RAM, plus at least 128MB video RAM, better damn well be enough.

[edit] Also, your resolution has zero effect on the amount of memory that a game takes up.

From gamespot "While it was disappointing to find out that the footage to be found during Saturday's commercial won't actually be in the game".... I knew it they werent gonna show any ingame footage which leads me to speculate once again on whether this is even in game shots or what the in game graphics will be like :hmph: GD come on E3!!!

I know I'm in the minority here, but I couldn't care less what the graphics look like. Let's get some innovation in the actual games first. Tell me this. When was the last time you played Madden zoomed in on McNabb's head under center? Who cares if the players who are wearing helmets have realistic looking muscles in their face?

How about we make some improvements to the acutal gameplay. Let's throw in a true physics system so hits look real. Let's make the AI better and the Franchise mode more fun. There are millions of things they could do to take the gameplay to the next level.

Instead, they make sure that face muscles are accurate and the stadiums look photorealistic. I guess graphics sell. Madness I tell ya. And then they aren't even showing in game shots? And people get excited? Oh well, rant over.

Think if there was a football game with an engine like the Source engine. Could you imagine all the crushing hits there would be? I mean think about it. A grenade blows a body up into the air and throws you around. Think about football. You throw the ball to a wide out and they run 20 yards downfield, jumps in the air, and gets creamed by 2 defenders. One infront of him, and the other trailing him after the wideout flipped in the air, the guy in the back just KILLLLLLLLLLLLLs him. That would be amazing. :)
