Nintendo DS OR PSP?

What? My argument was that I don't think there's anything that justifies the PSP's purcahse. Maybe I'm cheap, but I'm not willing to pay around $200 for a handheld that only has about five games that I'd like to play. The guy asking about which handheld to buy clearly was on a budget (or else he wouldn't ask which one to get), and I think the DS' cheaper price coupled with a larger line-up of desirable games makes me pick it over the PSP.

You missed my point by a mile, it had to do with your personal preference, hence the giant bold "me".

It cost me $400 AUD for my PSP and you'd find more than 5 games you'd enjoy but that's a moot point your a DS user. I don't think money has much to do with it both will end up costing you the same after buying all the other crap such as accessories games/pirated or not, etc.

All console users have their idea of whats great and whats not and that's fine by me. It's when people go around saying a system has nothing worth playing, shocking battery levels, is useless, etc that's when my feathers get ruffled.

Choosing a system based on its ability to pirate games from other systems, while economical, isn't exactly admirable, or even respectable.
Says the man with these interesting numbers (09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88) in his siggie...:O

So is it the pirating or the choosing a system for emulation purposes that isn't respectable? They both have their place imho....

The comment wasn't directed at you. It's just that whenever I get into a debate against a PSP fanboy of any notable hardcore-ness, one of their "pro" points is that the PSP can pirate and emulate all sorts of games from a number of systems. This statement is usually followed by an ignorant jab at the "kiddie" titles that are often found on Nintendo systems, or something about the touch-screen being a gimmick.

And nobody really does legal cartridge dumps and game rips anyway :p

Rethought this. Pirating for the PSP is initially harder than the DS becuase you have to deal with changing your firmware to a non official Sony one. This requires some patience as you need 1.5 eboot, latest OE supported Eboot 3.4? Then need to "combine" those two firmwares into one and install. Then you have your hacky little OE firmware that allows you to run unsigned programs and load isos straight from the XMB.

The following only applies to FF fanboys.

FF7: Crisis Core with real time combat. Theres a reason to buy a PSP right there.

Meanwhile I wonder when Nintendo will run out of new interactive devices to pimp their units, they have the market in the palm of their hands right now.

You can go to any torrent site and get 1 download that'll do everything for you, Kyo..

PSP is 10000 times better, DS games get old quick.

If you like Metal Gear (like me) Portable Ops would be a seller for you, it's so good (for a handheld). PSP just does more, it's better.

DS is a blast with friends.

Even if the PSP can do more, I don't think it's practical or even needed. I'm looking for fun hand-held games, DS provides.

I don't want to sit down with a hand held and play it for hours. It's a pick up and go console. DS wins.

I must say, I saw your desktop and i had a horrible irrational urge to get some sort of portable PC and stick it in my hand. Admittedly the PSP would be pretty gadgety, and I like gadgets, but...

Sucker, handhelds are pickup and play! I totally have a PC for being a PC.

I wuffles my DS. *huggles it*

Needs more games though. Oh, forgot to add Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. It's pretty funky.

/EDIT Need more friends with DSs though. Only people I see with DSs in my school are freaking year 7s. All the people in my year are Tekken Nerds... that and Colin McRally or whatever the car-racing game is (yes, I know shit-all about the PSP!) is all they play.

Did I say that HDDVD is better than Blu-ray because it's easier to pirate movies on it?

The defence rests :p

If you do purchase a DS... I would highly recommend you get yourself an 'R4'

:p

Piracy sucks, I hope all you pirates die and your women get raped by the spanish armada!

lol

lmao, the spanish armada? hahahahah

and, don't you mean spanish inquisition? Lol

I don't know about any armada, but thats funny.

I have zero pirated games BTW. I don't know how to torrent, or I might have 'a few'.

I can just work a couple hours and buy the game fully working

It's tempting, when people talk about "just d/l it". I get jealous cuz I don't like to spend all my money, but mostly these people don't have the money or they wouldn't do it.

I don't have much time to play games. Most of the time I would rather make mods for some of the games I own.

I just like to see how far games have come, and witness all the cool effects they do now. So I generally have a bunch of new games that I haven't got very far in, unless I get hooked on the game.

What part of this, isn't that type of forum and I don't condone piracy do you not understand? You can always PM me either way.

.

I usually pick a game I want to play per day of work. I load it up and put the PSP in standby mode (uses very little power) get to work do whatever and when I've got nothing to do I can turn the unit instantly on to what I loaded earlier.

Very much pickup and play if you go that route. A common error is that yes the DS has faster load times, faster load times for less content.

DS for me. I use it more than my PC and all of the other consoles in my apartment combined. I have a DVD player and MP3 player so there isn't a single reason in the world I'd ever consider a PSP. The DS has gameplay you can't get anywhere else. Emulators are nice, but don't do DS games justice. On top of that the games on the DS interest me while the PSP library makes me LOL.

Well, the DS has a sleep mode too. Just close the thing up and it'll stay like that for days before getting low on batteries.
Oh, and as far as the piracy argument goes... you can do all that on the DS as well. I've seen mp3 player mods with touch screen control and SNES emulation, but I don't know if it does anything like Nintendo 64 just yet.

Well I've had my battery die on me which puts the unit into sleep automatically. Two days later I charge the thing turn it on and everything still there, that scared the crap out of me.

As for mods

Theres a group working a touch screen for the PSP too, it would lay over the current screen.

I should clear that out.

PSP
I have one and it's pretty good thing, you can play super games like Metal Gear, Killzone, Wipeout, racing games like NFS and Ridge Racer, also you can watch movies in awesome graphic quality.
DS Lite is cool too but I can't stand Nintendo games for kids.

I had a dream a few nights ago where I bought a DS, only it was about a quarter the size of a normal one, like the size of Ben Stiller's cellphone from Zoolander. Also, I lived in a japanese apartment with my family, who were also japanese. Then I went down to the beach wearing only boxer shorts, only I didn't realise until I got there and got all embarrased, then woke up.

Ever since then, I've been really wanting to get a DS... *reads through testimonials and strokes beard contemplatively*

Man, I need to shave.

Edit - Heh... anyone else think Kyo may have misread this thread as "DS vs. PSP"? It's a discussion dude, not a debate.

I don't know about you, but I like to play games that aren't already on other platforms. :p

Meh. Besides the fact that I have a DVD/movie player in my Xbox, TV, PC, and Zen Vision, I can count on one hand the times in the past two years that I've ever found the time to watch a movie on-the-go.
DS Lite is cool too but I can't stand Nintendo games for kids.
I absolutely cannot stand when people say this. Yes, Nintendo games are kid-friendly, but that does not mean that they are kiddie games. They're cartoony, they're upbeat, they're lighthearted, and they're always, ALWAYS fun and interesting to play.

DS because (no I am not trying to aggravate the fanboys by saying this but I undoutedly will) the PSP has no games that interest me at all while the DS has lots.

OMG someone said the right thing.

the PSP has no games that interest me

Whilst the DS has no games that interest me. Although from my side and yours there are a few DS games I'd like and you'd find a few PSP games you like.

Your automatically assuming everything on the system is crap and that's not a good way to look at things, hence why I've admitted many times the DS is a better system for most people, the sales stats don't lie.

Generalizing is bad kiddies.

no I am not trying to aggravate the fanboys

I'm probably one of the only pro Sony, not a dumbarse fanboys here.

OMG, even more off topic, but semi-related, I had a nightmare my stepmother came to my house and cleaned my room while I was gone. There are few things that frighten me anymore, but this was terrifying.

I say DS just for the sake of Phoenix Wright, the best game ever created on handheld industry.

That's a cold hard fact right there.

I wasn't aware facts could be cold or hot for that matter.

Didn't you learn something new today?

20041203.jpg

Way too off topic.

Yes all characters are 18 or older

The number of reported incidents of crime against children in Japan, as well as violent crime in general, is well below that of most other developed countries, and indeed there appears to be a strong correlation between the dramatic rise of pornographic material in Japan from the 1970s onwards, and a dramatic decrease in reported sexual violence, especially crimes involving juveniles and non-impulsive rape cases. This supports the theory that widespread availability of sexually explicit material can in fact reduce the rate of sexual crimes.

On topic of the PSP vs. DS............

I don't know why every says PSP has bad battery life, it's only because you're comparing it to the DS, which has long battery life, my PSP lasts 8 hours, and I think thats pretty long, and my PSP is from when they released version 1.5 (still got 1.5 on there, too :) ).

And whats all this talk about "PSP isn't a pick-up and go console"? I pick it up and play all the time, just put it in sleep mode when you're done, and then turn it back on when you want to play it again, most PSP games are made to deal with this anyways.. Coded Arms has short bite-size levels, so you can play a quick level and finish, and so does Metal Gear, you choose a mission, at the most taking you 5 minutes to complete, then you finish and save...

I agree there aren't that much good games for PSP, but the good ones they've got are really fun, and if you're smart you can get Sega Genesis, SNES, NES, NeoGeo, GBA, GBC, PS1, and Atari games on there, not to mention all the good homebrew games people have made..

Basically, you get the PSP to play non-PSP games!

:p

Yup!

Can the DS play non-PSP games without a shit load of un-necessary work? No? Another point for PSP!
