No offence intended, but people are presenting this argument like somehow it hasn't occurred to the rest of us. We know. We're not going to riot in the streets, or cause an altercation outside Activision HQ. It's not that important.

It's just a really dumb idea ; it doesn't do the website owners any favours, and it doesn't do us any favours. Most of the hyperventilating I'm seeing around here is from the people who don't have a problem with it. It's just not a big deal to me.

You can say whatever you want about FP, but in the end the only reason you dont like them is because they expect compensation for their service. That makes you a cheap asshole and a whiney bitch for complaining about it. Thats just the truth. If your not a whiney bitch, then dont complain. If your not cheap, then either pay for it or dont complain about it. If you whine then defend yourself by saying that your not whining, or saying that you have the right to whine becaus eyour being cheated, then your not only cheap and a whiney bitch but your stupid aswell.

Doom is right guys. Activision has the right to do whatever they want with their product. EAP did this with C&C Generals as well. However, if they never release the demo free of charge to everyone it basically hurts their sales, which believe me, they don't want to do. So it's just a matter of time before the demo will be available. Patience is a virtue.

On another note, Doom, your obviously here for the sole purpose of creating chaos. Don't be a jackass.

^I think he likes having to pay for things that people with a little more decency would offer for free. Either that or he a Gamespy employee.

Edit: I mean Mr. Doom btw.

Heh, Cur my name and avatar have nothing to do with why im here. Im here because im interested in hl2 and this is a hl2 forum.

Im not trying to create chaos. I may be a bit blunt and outspoken about my opinions, but thats just my nature. I dont play games or dance around the issue, i confront it. The way i see it, i was preventing chaos in this thread by introducing some reason.

i havent read all the posts cause there are to many but demo's are supposed to be free so you can decide if your going to buy the game or not. Its not the money that bothers me, just the principle. You pay money to decide whether or not a title is worth your money or not. thats bullshit. i wonder if they are charging pc gamer for the copy of the game they'll reveiw it with

Actually, most people don't like them much even when they're free. But yes, of course if you offer me something for free, and the same thing for money, I'll have the free one please.

That's possibly the least cogent sentence I've seen in these forums. I don't think you knew what you meant when you wrote it, and I sure don't know what you meant reading it back. Maybe it's just too late at night.

You've shown you can put intelligent responses together. Why don't you stick to that? Over and out.

Path, your not paying for the demo, your paying for the FP subscription. The demo being exclusive to subscribers is just a perk for being a subscriber, and wont be exclusive for long. No different than magazines sending demos along with the magazine to their subscribers.

Part of the problem though Curator is that, from what i read about the issue, Activision refuses to tell the other filehosting websites when the exclusivity deal will end. This probably wouldnt be an issue if Activision said "You other guys can have it next week". As far as i am aware, exclusivity deals used to work in that way. But to refuse to tell other sites; that the exclusivity is indefinite? That's just absurd. As far as i am aware, publishers basically get free advertising from sites like these (I may be wrong on this and someone correct me if that is the case but i dont see publishers paying these sites to host the files for them). So Activision, in this case, gets money from FP for the exclusive, jerks the other sites around, and then expects them to host their game for free?

I didnt post this news in the first place to cause any sort of riot. Personally this issue doesnt affect me too much because i do not have a FP account and i never planned to d/l the demo or get the game. The point is to let those in charge know that consumers dont necesarrily like these things.

Yeah well that's not what your name and avatar implies. Doom3>HL2 clearly represents you think D]|[ is better and flaunting that around a HL2 forum is asking for it.

Where do people get off these days thinking they dont have to pay for anything? boohoo music should be free, ill just boot up kazaa and steal it. Boohoo i shouldnt have to pay to see a movie, ill just d/l it. Boohoo i shouldnt have to pay fileplanet for their services, ill just go to a forum and ****ing whine, BOOHOO! Cry me a river.

Heres a hint to those who havnt caught on yet, LIFE ISNT FREE! As a man its your responsibilitty to pay your way in this world. You know what a baby does when he doesnt have what he wants? He cries about it. You know what a man does when he doesnt have what he wants? He does what he has to do to pay for it, or he goes on without it.

Grow up.

am i the only on who thinks that that post and its creator's name is very very good flamebait?

Those are all valid arguments banana. I don't know all the details so I won't be involved in this any further.

Yea, my personal opinion is that doom3 will be a better game than hl2. That doesnt mean im not interested in hl2 or that i htink hl2 will be a bad game. It is not meant to imply anything other than i think Doom3 will be a better game than hl2.

Doom3s world, design, genra(horror), and atmosphere just appeal to me more than what ive seen of hl2. If any of you guys are offended by my name, your a pussy and i wont apologize for it. Dont be so sensitive. They are only games.

i have a fileplanet account....its like 3-4 bucks a month. Im not saying everyone should get an account but if you cant pay 3-4 bucks a month than your pretty pathetic.

Yeah, but it's just little expenses like that... they're just... annoying! Gah!

Well you know, I CARE. I didnt state those things because i thought you had any interest. You blatantly accused people on this forum (thus including myself) of not paying for things or not realizing that life isnt free. I stated those things about myself to prove to you that not everyone behaves the way you think. You made a blanket accusation and i proved you wrong. Simple as that.

You are right, it is their product and they CAN do whatever they want because it is their product. I never disputed that. That doesnt mean i have to like what they do and you know what, I AM allowed to voice my opinions and there is nothing they (or you) can do about it. I have calmly and rationally conveyed my disapproval of this sort of tactic. Nothing more. And right now i am defending my point of view in the same manner. I support the movement to complain about this tactic.

One thing you dont seem to grasp yet though is that Activision is out to make money from people. They dont have to pamper their prospective customers but they cant insult them either. And again, limiting a demo release to a few people limits exposure which will probably hurt sales in the end. It just doesnt make sense.

If you had read my post clearly, you would have seen that i didnt fully blame Activision. I placed more blame on FP for this. I'm sure neither FP or Activision expected this to happen because there have been exclusivity deals before. Exclusivity deals for demo's are just plain dumb. Its almost like buying a newspaper and then having to pay extra for all the advertisements i happened to read in said paper (i know it is not exactly the same but its the best comparison i could come up with so quickly).

I wont even bother replying to most of this last one. You seem bent on tossing around insults. I dont plan on replying to any more posts made by you on this subject because your arguments are just heated insults. I will comment on the last statement though:

They dont have something i want. THEY have something THEY want ME to pay for. That's how it works.

Enough said.

haha, owned.

This might be irrelevant ... actually it probably is... but Activision is the same company that sued (or planned to or wanted to or whatever) the OWNERS of the Star Trek Franchise because "They didn't exploit it enough."

I respect your opinion but you don't seem to be getting the point. Either that or your just acting stupid. It's pretty much common sense to figure out what your doing can cause problems.

BTW, some of your posts were unnecessary and just reflects back badly upon you.

Haha, I've never heard of that...

Come to think of it... I can't recall a single Activision game I've ever liked...

From Fragland.net:

Yahoo is reporting that Activision is sueing Viacom for not properly marketing their Star Trek movies and therefor lowering the profile of Star Trek related games

In a press release Tuesday, Activision it has terminated its agreement with Viacom, and is now seeking damages from Viacom, alleging the media company " significantly diminished the value of Star Trek licensing rights including the rights received by Activision."

An Activision spokeswoman said the initial license agreement included $20 million in advance royalties and warrants, with additional payments to be based on game sales. She wouldn't comment on the amount of damages the company is seeking in the suit.

I dont know all the details...but it is dumb anyway. I dont think its Viacom's fault necessarily that people are losing interest in Star Trek. Recent movies havent been that good, and from what i hear, Enterprise isnt that good either.

Viacom is crapifying Star Trek to try to appeal to the dimwitted masses by putting less intellectual plots into the show. They dumbed it down enough for it to be boring for some of it's long lasting fans, yet not enough for the brainless reality show crowd. So they screw up both sides. So here comes stupid old Activison, to make the mess even bigger. They're trying to drop the contract and sice they're the sole owner of the Trek license, ST games will cease to exist until some other money grubbers get it, which probably won't happen soon because of the crap handling of Enterprise. Hopefully Viacom will win, even though both companies are jerks. If Activison wins the Star Trek gaming community will take a serious hit, and it's doubtful that Viacom sees enough profit in trying to save Star Trek. Looking pretty grim. Capitalism sucks, but hey, it's the best we've come up with so far. :borg:

Hey, README

Call of Duty Friday Night [12:59 am]
37 Comments - Steve Gibson
Well thanks to the support that all of you guys have given our initiative regarding exclusive demos, Activision has re-thought their strategy on the release of the Call of Duty demo, here's the official line:

The recent reaction to the upcoming Call of Duty demo has caught us here at Activision by surprise. We're appreciative and excited about of the high level of enthusiasm the game has received throughout the gaming community. Due to the tremendous demand for the demo we are answering the call by not only making the demo freely available to all gamers at the same time, but early This Friday Night - just in time for the long weekend.

Gamespy has been a great partner - working with us so that we can make our fans happy and give them a taste of a game they're clearly excited about. The demo will be available across the net on fan and gaming coverage sites, including GameSpy's FilePlanet.

We think you'll love Call of Duty, and we can't wait for you to play the demo.Look for it Friday night!

Thanks again to everyone for understanding and supporting our position. All of the webmasters who were involved in setting this up are immensely satisfied with the results and hope that this marks a turning point in the industry.

can i get HELL YES?!?!?!?!?!?

NICE! Friday night, eh? Good stuff. That way I won't have to wait until Sunday, at which time I'll be on my university connection which could either be really good, really average, or slower than dialup. It's like tossing a 3-sided coin. Except those don't exist. So we'll just toss a 2-sided coin and remove the possibility of it being fast because that is just impossible anyway.

In other news...anyone notice that the first 500 new FilePlanet subscribers will get a subscription to Maxim? Now THAT is funny. FilePlanet is giving away PORN to sell subscriptions. How horrible is that? LOL...

You know there's no point to posting such crap, anyone with half a brain could've figured out that you were pro-Doom.
