No offence intended, but people are presenting this argument like somehow it hasn't occurred to the rest of us. We know. We're not going to riot in the streets, or cause an altercation outside Activision HQ. It's not that important.Originally posted by Zeus
You don't want to pay FP for subscription? Okay then, you don't get a demo until the exclusive period ends. Simple. Don't like it? Get over it, or just don't play the demo at all.
Actually, most people don't like them much even when they're free. But yes, of course if you offer me something for free, and the same thing for money, I'll have the free one please.Originally posted by Doom3>hl2
You can say whatever you want about FP, but in the end the only reason you dont like them is because they expect compensation for their service.
That makes you a cheap asshole and a whiney bitch for complaining about it. Thats just the truth. If your not a whiney bitch, then dont complain. If your not cheap, then either pay for it or dont complain about it. If you whine then defend yourself by saying that your not whining, or saying that you have the right to whine becaus eyour being cheated, then your not only cheap and a whiney bitch but your stupid aswell.

Doom is right guys. Activision has the right to do whatever they want with their product. EAP did this with C&C Generals as well. However, if they never release the demo free of charge to everyone it basically hurts their sales, which believe me, they don't want to do. So it's just a matter of time before the demo will be available. Patience is a virtue.
On another note, Doom, your obviously here for the sole purpose of creating chaos. Don't be a jackass.
Heh, Cur my name and avatar have nothing to do with why im here. Im here because im interested in hl2 and this is a hl2 forum.

Dont be a bunch of ****ing sissys, its only 25 cents a day to subscribe, and you get acess to exclusive content. Where do people get off these days thinking they dont have to pay for anything? boohoo music should be free, ill just boot up kazaa and steal it. Boohoo i shouldnt have to pay to see a movie, ill just d/l it. Boohoo i shouldnt have to pay fileplanet for their services, ill just go to a forum and ****ing whine, BOOHOO! Cry me a river.
Heres a hint to those who havnt caught on yet, LIFE ISNT FREE! As a man its your responsibilitty to pay your way in this world. You know what a baby does when he doesnt have what he wants? He cries about it. You know what a man does when he doesnt have what he wants? He does what he has to do to pay for it, or he goes on without it.
Grow up.

Part of the problem though Curator is that, from what i read about the issue, Activision refuses to tell the other filehosting websites when the exclusivity deal will end. This probably wouldnt be an issue if Activision said "You other guys can have it next week". As far as i am aware, exclusivity deals used to work in that way. But to refuse to tell other sites; that the exclusivity is indefinite? That's just absurd. As far as i am aware, publishers basically get free advertising from sites like these (I may be wrong on this and someone correct me if that is the case but i dont see publishers paying these sites to host the files for them). So Activision, in this case, gets money from FP for the exclusive, jerks the other sites around, and then expects them to host their game for free?

Well you know, I CARE. I didnt state those things because i thought you had any interest. You blatantly accused people on this forum (thus including myself) of not paying for things or not realizing that life isnt free. I stated those things about myself to prove to you that not everyone behaves the way you think. You made a blanket accusation and i proved you wrong. Simple as that.
You are right, it is their product and they CAN do whatever they want because it is their product. I never disputed that. That doesnt mean i have to like what they do and you know what, I AM allowed to voice my opinions and there is nothing they (or you) can do about it. I have calmly and rationally conveyed my disapproval of this sort of tactic. Nothing more. And right now i am defending my point of view in the same manner. I support the movement to complain about this tactic.
One thing you dont seem to grasp yet though is that Activision is out to make money from people. They dont have to pamper their prospective customers but they cant insult them either. And again, limiting a demo release to a few people limits exposure which will probably hurt sales in the end. It just doesnt make sense.
If you had read my post clearly, you would have seen that i didnt fully blame Activision. I placed more blame on FP for this. I'm sure neither FP or Activision expected this to happen because there have been exclusivity deals before. Exclusivity deals for demo's are just plain dumb. Its almost like buying a newspaper and then having to pay extra for all the advertisements i happened to read in said paper (i know it is not exactly the same but its the best comparison i could come up with so quickly).
I wont even bother replying to most of this last one. You seem bent on tossing around insults. I dont plan on replying to any more posts made by you on this subject because your arguments are just heated insults. I will comment on the last statement though:
They dont have something i want. THEY have something THEY want ME to pay for. That's how it works.
Enough said.

be so offended if its not the way your used to playing, or if its not the way you want to play. Does a batter complain that the pitcher didnt throw it down the middle, and threw a curve instead? Be reasonable.
Haha, I've never heard of that...Originally posted by Banana
This might be irrelevant ... actually it probably is... but Activision is the same company that sued (or planned to or wanted to or whatever) the OWNERS of the Star Trek Franchise because "They didn't exploit it enough."

Come to think of it... I can't recall a single Activision game I've ever liked...
Yahoo is reporting that Activision is sueing Viacom for not properly marketing their Star Trek movies and therefor lowering the profile of Star Trek related games
In a press release Tuesday, Activision it has terminated its agreement with Viacom, and is now seeking damages from Viacom, alleging the media company " significantly diminished the value of Star Trek licensing rights including the rights received by Activision."
An Activision spokeswoman said the initial license agreement included $20 million in advance royalties and warrants, with additional payments to be based on game sales. She wouldn't comment on the amount of damages the company is seeking in the suit.

Well thanks to the support that all of you guys have given our initiative regarding exclusive demos, Activision has re-thought their strategy on the release of the Call of Duty demo, here's the official line:
The recent reaction to the upcoming Call of Duty demo has caught us here at Activision by surprise. We're appreciative and excited about of the high level of enthusiasm the game has received throughout the gaming community. Due to the tremendous demand for the demo we are answering the call by not only making the demo freely available to all gamers at the same time, but early This Friday Night - just in time for the long weekend.
Gamespy has been a great partner - working with us so that we can make our fans happy and give them a taste of a game they're clearly excited about. The demo will be available across the net on fan and gaming coverage sites, including GameSpy's FilePlanet.
We think you'll love Call of Duty, and we can't wait for you to play the demo.Look for it Friday night!
Thanks again to everyone for understanding and supporting our position. All of the webmasters who were involved in setting this up are immensely satisfied with the results and hope that this marks a turning point in the industry.
