do you think nvidia new that they messed up on there fx series prior to mass marketing it as a dx9 card?? because its quite obvious that the majorly screwed themselves.... somebody please tell me they knew before and just stayed quite... haha i have an ati w000t

Nvidia may return to the top soon. I own an ATI Radeon 9800.

nvidia fuxt up so bad its almost laughable :frog: :dozey:    :naughty:

haha nvidia fan boys in denial! take that.

I have a geforce2 GTS ultra 64MB right now. never had a single issue with it. But now, it's time for ATI 9800 PRO!

The game will still run, just not super great.

that sucks man. luckily i was able to resist the temptation to buy a card until a game really worth it came out. I'm still gonna hold off on the new video card until hl2 hits the stores or I know for sure the release date.

with all the advice going around about how ATI cards seem to score better, why would u still get an Nvidia card? hmm.. must be the crack u been smokin :farmer:

hehe j/k :)

I have a ti4800 8x, which I think is the best nvidia card out for hl2 right now, I don't get dx9, but the specifications of the card pass the 5200 and 5600 fx series. The only reason they made the fx was basically for dx9. Techinically the 5200 could be called the geforce3 ti500, except with dx9 support. And it's crappy support at that. Who knows maybe if they just got their Sh*t together, nvidia could make a comeback.

I have a 1.3 GHZ and a Radeon 8500..I am teh dead...:x

The games I play usually LOOK very good with the card...but they run like a (insert word here).:x

alb1221: hmm, 2 threads 1 content. u didn't like nvidia, eh? i'll buy a fx5900 anyway. cuz i know from other games which run goodlike on a 5900. hl2 is just one of x good games coming out soon. think bout doom 3, stalker, far cry etc.

Actually I remember reading about Carmack complaining about Nvidia.

yes and that's exactly why Carmack has made the "special" run path for nvidia cards, becuase there not up to what he wants done, and nvidia wants them to run "fast" so they had him make its own path so it could have it done, (at whatever cost nvidia felt it should)

I have a GeForce Ti4400.

See, I can't really afford to keep buying a new graphics card every 6 months! Damn it, I want a 9800pro ??

Actually most of those games (not sure bout from Stalker) are all DX9 (PS 2.0).

Other than Doom3, which ran faster on the 5900ultra in PREVIEW benchmarks, I'd say that ATI will reign as the top end until Nvidia next GPU comes out.

Correct. http://www.bluesnews.com/plans/1/

Note: Carmack's talking about the 5800ultra and 9700pro (R300) not 9800pro.

am i supposed to be upset by this thread cuz i have an nvidia card?

hehe no point being a fanboy, because theres always something thats better. thats just life. I think i might buy the 9800 if the price comes down a little, £300 + is taking the piss

not as much as asking £400 for the 5900 which is a worse card.

This is actually a much more recent Carmack comment:

http://www.gamersdepot.com/hardware/video_cards/ati_vs_nvidia/dx9_desktop/001.htm

"Update 09/05: We emailed id Software guru, John Carmack about his experience with NV3x hardware on Pixel Shading performance, and this was his reply:

GD: John, we've found that NVIDIA hardware seems to come to a crawl whenever Pixel Shader's are involved, namely PS 2.0..

Have you witnessed any of this while testing under the Doom3 environment?

"Yes. NV30 class hardware can run the ARB2 path that uses ARB_fragment_program, but it is very slow, which is why I have a separate NV30 back end that uses NV_fragment_program to specify most of the operations as 12 or 16 bit instead of 32 bit."

John Carmack"

hmmm i wonder what card im gonna buy...
hmm hmmmm

The Ti4200 is a solid card and will do just fine. It's only the FX5900 that is apparently having problems.

Yeah...i would call paying 500$ for a paperweight problems to :p

is the only difference between the pro and non-pro the core/memory speeds??

ok peeps, I'm thinking about gettin a new gcard (most likely a 9800pro 128mb/256mb) but not sure I should for definate because I already have a oem 9700pro which i got with my pc...
what performance gains would I see and are 9800's worth the money vs performance over rival cards and the 9700pro?....
