nvidia's pixel shaders 2.0 = broken

Apparently, some shaders 2.0 simply do not work making Nvidia's claim that this card is DirectX 9 hardware puzzling, as Pixel Shader 2.0 is one of the essences of DX 9.

Subsequently, Nvidia staff at the conference agreed the shaders are not feeling very well, and that the recent drivers are quite buggy. But hey! They run Quake, UT and 3Dmark just fine.

just another reason not to waste your money on a 5900 ultra.
as if bad IQ, cheating in games and benchmarks wasn't enough of a reason.

nivida is really gettings its arse kicked by ATI right now

Well, that is particularly disappointing on Nvidia's part. Sounds like a driver issue though... which can possibly be fixed.

ehehehe...fixed!
Well, without cheats all the PS2.0 tests on nVidia cards are too slow compared to ATi, and I mean SLOW (e.g.) ATi 9700 30FPS, GFFX5900 14).
Just check with DX9 demos out there with Unwinder's anti cheat program.

maybe in lala-land-dreamworld...but not in reality...

maybe one day ATI will be able to make a stable card. until then they are just nvidia wannabes that make trash that wont even run many games without a special patch just for the ATI.

BTW does anyone know how to make the 9800 pro run codecreatures in 1600x1200? for some reason it does not work...

john carmack says doom 3 will run best on a 5900. his opinion carries more with with me than billyjoejimbob's "hardware review" site...

you really need to look at a few more benchmarks and reviews

dude, i think you're living in la-la land dreamworld, i own a 9800 Pro 128mb, and it whoops the SHIT out of my 4600, and from what i've heard from other 5900 users, them too.

i run any game no problem without any special patch

read up before making yourself sound like an assmuncher

actually i don't, since i have a job that allows i have seen the peformance difference first hand, the 9800 gets it butt handed to it by the 5900...even in a slightly slower computer. and in the same machine.

as far as reviews go i have seen many from reputable sites such as andandtech and toms that show the 5900 spank any card ATI has to offer, especially in doom3 and by reputable i do not mean the inquirer!! ROFL!!!

i do a very radical thing, i actually see for myself instead of letting some website or the TV do my thinking for me. and i have seen the 5900 kick the crap out of the 9800pro firsthand in various diff settings, so i do not really care if you have a link to "cletus t judd's hardware emporium" saying different. :D i know better.

and i work at a computer store and have ran the 9800pro and the 5900 ultra in the same computer, and the 9800 pro got it's ass kicked...end of story. the 5900 even kicked butt in a slightly slower comp side by side with the comp with the 9800 in it.

as far as what i "sound like", you should try thinking for yourself instead of letting the internet do your thinking for you, and follow your own advice while your at it :D

just a little addition, i am sure the 9800 pro is faster than a 4600..DUH that is as meaningless as saying the 4600 is faster than a radeon 7500!!! ROFL!!! no one mentioned the 4600 except you and again i remind you to follow your own advice! :D

Anyone saying Geforce FX 5900 Ultra doesn't beat the Radoen 9800 PRO in terms of performance is a real fanboy.

i think you hit the nail on the head with that one. where i work(a custom computer store specializing in performance) our discount is not much over cost, the 256meg 9800 pro our cost is roughly the same(within $20) as the 5900U. there is no choice for me after directly comparing the 2 cards myself.

if ATI could build a card that did not have all the stability/driver problems i would buy it in a hearbeat if the price was right and feal freakin great about it. :)

if there truly is an issue with the pixelshader2 due to a driver issue as the inquirer says(and i take anything the inquirer says with a grain of salt) nvidia will fix it in short order. so far in dx9 apps i have run our 5900U in there have not been any problems though and you can bet before i plunk down hundreds of dollars on ANY video card i will check it out thouroughly!

before i actually get mine i will take my comp to work and test it out real good beforehand! :D

My feeling; ATi has come through for the first time in thier history with a good consumer video card. nVidia, however, has consitantly beat ATi in card perforance, driver stabalily, and support. I'm waiting to see if ATi's goodness is a fluke or a sign of things turniing around for them. Until I see that, i'm a nVidia fan.

OH NOES!!!!! MY THREAD HAS BEEN HIJACKED.

thanks. to the two or three people who replied with anything concerning the topic.

Agreed, if what you want to say has nothing to do with the topic of the thread does not belong in the thread, especially if what you are going to say is based on personal opinions, thats just asking for it

i'm not a fanboy, i've been an nvidia fanboy for the longest time though

you guys need to read up though, nvidia doesn't use the most honest ways to achieve those 10 extra frames per second
