“I said, ‘What’s the problem, officer?’ and he said ‘Get your hands up,’” wrote Lawton in a prepared statement. “He repeated, pulled out his gun and pointed into the passenger side of the window where my youngest daughter was trying to get her seatbelt off. So, I put my hands up.”

I don't even know what that cop was thinking? But then again, I smell a lawsuit for mental anguish in the air.. \=

MEh. Guy prolly couldn't see inside.

So, shes entiltled to a law suit. That officer should go to jail for endangering the life of that little girl like that.
Article doesn't mention officer having finger on trigger, or safety off for that.

You don't point a loaded gun at anyone, ever, unless you want to shoot them.
Gun saftey rule number one.

what are you trying to say 15357? A police wouldnt do that to even a criminal, so it was wrong to do that to a normal civilized citizen that was willing to comply and work with the officer about whatever the problem was. Also threatening to kill under-aged kids because of movement that HE causes is also not what a police is entitled to do. And what you mean "he probably couldnt see inside" ? He even said that he would shot the kids if they or she moved...
I dont understand what your trying to say...why does it seem like your always on the "bad guys" side?

He loaded the chamber.

Ok, well, then that's like saying you can let your kids play with a loaded gun as long as the safety is on, no danger!

Bad guys? Police = Good guy.

Anyway, must have read that wrongly. I skimmed through it and it's 3 am. I'm gonna agree with Jnightshade over threre.

What he's saying is that people who do bad things are bad guys. Which I believe is a gross oversimplification, but going by this story, I'm inclined to agree with him. This cop was WAY out of line.

EDIT: also, needless to say, not all cops are good guys. Here in Boston, a couple cops just got busted for running a massive cocaine and heroin ring. Talk about corruption.

Yeah, police these days suck more than they don't. :( It's a sad truth in this country.

I want to know the officer's reasoning (if any) as to why he felt he needed to pull his gun out. If an officer pulled a gun out on me and I was unarmed, I would absolutely freak out.

That's what I'm thinking. I mean, I can understand if they had info that the car was involved in a shooting/drug deal/something bad, but just for shits and giggles? Hmm.

If I saw an officer carrying a gun (not military police), I'd cry with joy. They don't even carry batons, just handcuffs here.

Well there's always that chance that he could've been making the "bust of the year". :upstare: I think that is the problem these days, too many people wanting to be heroes instead of just doing what they're supposed to.

Well, the world needs heroes.

Its interesting to see how many people are prepared to judge a person based upon one person's testimony.

Well, I didn't judge a person upon one person's testimony, but got somewhat... less-than-flamed for it.

The fact that he was "unable to comment" just means he didn't have much of a different view of what happened. I know if there was something wrong with the persons testimony, I'd tell them how it really was. "No Comment" means they are either trying to hide from it, or have nothing different to say....or they really WERENT around for comment..but how often is that?

There's got to be more to this story. A cop just pulled over some car, walked up to the window and aimed a gun at a 7 year old and threatened to kill her? I doubt it. Something tells me the mom provoked him or did not comply, and he probably wasn't aiming at the kid. As far as I can tell from the article it was written entirely from the moms point of view, so it's a bit too soon to judge.

As much as I **** the police, I've got to agree with this. Either the guy was just totally insane, or there was something that felt off with him. I can empathise wi th cops: you are put in a dangerous situation everyday. You've got to be on edge. If not, you're probably a dead cop.

I do not doubt that. But I think there's a big difference between someone finding themselves in a situation and one where someone is looking for a situation. Unfortunately too many people fall in the second group.

Maybe she was doing drive bys!

I mean, look at what she was driving, total Drive By type of car.

No dude this is a real case of a dumb**** officer who needs to be fired. Read the article the other officers came and had to tell him to drop his weapon and leave in another patrol car.

Other times like this where I agree the cops were just doing normal procedure (Tasering the resistant fat woman, etc etc) that others cried 'abuse!' aren't like this one. This one is actual abuse of power. **** that guy.

Maybe she kidnapped his kid! D:

Serious dumbass attack and/or serious abuse of power.

Either way, that guy's got no business being a cop.

Yea.

Too true. My cousin is 7 and I couldn't hate him more.

My neighbor is 7 and I couldn't hate the Uber Nerd Starwars Freaksho more.

Yes... yes you do...

+saftey +finger off trigger ... I dont think its such a crime :/

Are you actually trying to tell me that pointing a loaded weapon at a seven year old girl ain't that bad a thing so long as your handling it a certain way? **** the safety mechanism. There are numerous ways in which this oh-so-safe scenario that you think it is could have turned extremely ugly. Possibly with a child having bullets in her.

Even if the cop in question was "safely" handling explosive-propelled, lead death while pointing it at a passenger child, that doesn't mean that the rest of his entire approach wasn't batshit insane.

Maybe I'm being too harsh without seeing the other side of the story, but I can't fathom any kind of reasonable explanation. He needs to lose his job, at the very least. He either has sanity issues, some kind of ****ing macho ego, or he's so incompetent at his occupation that he can't even handle pulling over a god damn soccer mom without spazzing out into a nervous wreck. No matter which of those it may be, he's not fit to serve and protect anybody.

Numbers, seriously. You are so illusioned. You never want to see anybody with a loaded weapon, safety on or off, approaching you with the weapon in hand. It's not a good thing. Ever.

I bet those children were actually disguised midgets running a cocaine run, and the lady was really a drug lord and the cop knew, so she started faking help! help!. I saw it on TV. And hey man, I am a senior member of the Uber Nerd Starwars Freaksho!
