Official Bad Company 2 thread - no beta talk here!

I'm really starting to get tired of this game, after dozens of other problems, now I can't join any server anymore without getting kicked by punkbuster after a few minutes. Already tried uninstalling the beta.

I got ya beat, Hool.

First time the game stopped stuttering for me I hit 14 knifes. :p

I'm really enjoying recon; getting points for spotting and kills within your motion detector are awesome. Some of these vehicle drivers are pretty dumb too, I've had multiple tanks stand around long enough for me to mortar them; which is like +30 for damage, +50 for destroying, then +50 for a kill. And I just learned if I stand far enough back, I get like 110pts a kill. Apparently you get an extra 50 for "marksman" shots, as well as the regular 60 for a headshot.

I unlocked this assault rifle... though I forgot the name... but it shoots two round bursts and it's probably the best thing Assault has to offer. I can pick off snipers if I aim carefully (using red dot) and still take people out from 10 feet away with no problem.

Also in a round last night I scored 17,000 points because I got the 10k award for getting 5 gold stars and the gold star is 5k as well.

Marksman shots increase your score based on how far away you are when you get a headshot. My highest is only +93 or something.

Also, recon + shotgun = awesome defensive.

I'm bottom left corner of British Columbia to Britland (other side of the world) and I played hitchless. It waas gloriousss.
We need a teamspeak / vent server for this server, because I have a feeling I'll spend most of my playtime there.

Does anyone know if the ventrilo server DaBomb got is still up and running?

i've noticed more and more glitches with the PS3 version. I'll try stabbing someone like 5, 6 times and nothing happens. or simple things like shooting someone up close i'll waste half a clip hitting them and they'll shoot me once and i die. the game just has too many little problems to list. its very frustrating sometimes. also these lvl 2 and 3 guys are like invincible, i can't kill them. one day this game is fun the next its annoying as hell. and not to mention the really loud buzzer near the end of the match on Conquest mode makes me go nuts

sounds like lag.

its not lag, its hit detection. if i had lag people would be talking and i'd respond while they were in mid sentence. like i said though, many small problems, the game can be fun but sometimes very frustrating

er, lag on comms and lag in game aren't usually - or at all, as far as i know? - related. i can natter on a whole conversation and hear people do the same on any game and still have jumpy gameplay.

Yup, this is true. VOIP and the game aren't tied together exclusively. One can be worse than the other.

I will agree though that the knife hit detection is terrible.

They need to change it when you swipe and miss it's a clear animation and it doesn't have a long cool down to use again. If you hit someone, then play that animation and have it take longer to kill.

I've had so many cases where it seemed like I hit them, it did the stab animation and all, but I died because the freaking animation and cool down is too long.

knife hit detection was a bit of an issue in BC1, too, but can usually be boiled down to latency between players in different countries... or something. that and sometimes the distance to knife someone was seriously wtf, and i mean real ''WHAT THE **** HOW'' moments.

its easier to stab someone while running thats for sure. try standing still and stabbing someone and you'll end up looking like an idiot swiping at the air for like 10 seconds until sheath you knife and pull it out again

I'd prefer it the way it is now, otherwise we'd just end up like many COD maps where people just sprint around meleeing like mad and dominating everyone. I think the cool down is just right, but a different animation for hits and misses would welcome.

Ding ding ding

Had a really good time in the hl2 server just now. Played under another Tag tho so im not sure if anyone recognized me (QUALITy!). Even tho the server is in New York i didnt lag too much. Im going to play in a few hours again.

There really needs to be an autobalancing command for BC2 servers. Tired of seeing teams outrageously stacked, earlier today the server was stacked 21 to 6 in terms of players.

Been playing on the hl2.net server all night and had a blast :D The gameplay there seems more hectic than other servers for some reason, but damn it was fun!

Played with Xevrex, and Hool10 briefly, saw some of you others on there too :) gg!

just played for awhile tonight

I was going to play on the hl2.net server but it was full

I don't know how some of you guys are already level 8+, I've been playing quite a bit and just hit 4

the ball starts rolling once you get the repair tool/ammo bag/health kit.

I have all of those, I should use them more though I suppose, they are easy points. I need to get the defib pads for the medic

The way you get points the most is just by doing what your class is made for. That way you can rack up thousands of points per round, and be cruising through the levels like there's no tomorrow!

It annoys me when I see players be Medic or whatever, and never put down health kits / defibs but instead just use the gun that the class has. It's useful to have less enemies, sure, but you get way more use if they are doing the other special abilities they have.

there is nothing - NOTHING - worse than someone who doesn't drop med kits. i'm talking from my exp. in BC1 here, i'm going to presume some people are the same in BC2, but man the amount of times i've had to follow someone around a map, shooting at their feet like some cowboy movie or letting them watch me jump up in down in front of them is crazy.

i drop medpacks at our own bases even when people aren't injured, just on the off chance that someone might run by.

the best way to earn XP is to be unselfish and work with the rest of your team
ie. heal, resupply., repair, spot, mark objectives etc etc etc
TEAM PLAY earns you the most xp

the majority of my fun in BC1 came from all of the above. killin' mother****ers like it's cool is great n' all, but give me repair tool or medkit and i'd rather resupply. one of my favourite rolls to play was to go recon and basically just use the scope to spot enemies. i use to love calling in mortar strikes just to level buildings to deny the enemy cover and i'm SO glad that the BC2 strike comes with binoculars. cannot wait to use them.

kept on getting bsod due to some creative sound card issue, install new drivers new version of Alchemy-NO SOUND. **** reinstalling right now hope it works.

I love the Engineer class. got in a good group tonight and we were mowing people down in Squad Deathmatch. also i dislike the UAV in this game, its too small to hit, plus when using it, very slow firing. also someone did shoot me out of a helo which was impressive considering how far away we were from him. that and today had a 21,000 point match, not combat score but just from pins and award medals

I gave up trying to get into a game yesterday evening. Firstly i need to manually update PB because evidently it can't cope with updating itself.

And then i just plain couldn't even login to the EA server :(

Fingers crossed for a game tonight !

how does the spotting work? Pressing the spot button (q) doesn't seem to do anything for me.

Get the enemy in your crosshairs, and fully in sight, and hit q. They'll be marked for a short period of time. If someone kills them in that period, you get extra points. If you can't seem to mark them, just hit q a whole lot until it works.

And yeah, playing as your class was made for is really the most fun way to play. When I do use recon I'm always on the front line, backing up the assault and medics with motion detectors, finishing off enemies with bodyshots, or flanking and knifing by using the shrubbery to my advantage, and above all SPOTTING.

Hate people who just snipe. Waste of a squad member.

If the enemies are distant, you need to aim at them(or nearby them). This is to prevent it from being a way to find enemies' locations for yourself when you haven't discovered them yourself yet. If enemies are closer you don't need to aim very precise.

EDIT: damn, too late again :/

Also following on from what Ace said about motion detectors. My god people need to use them more, especially on Rush. Throwing one down around the M-Com after you set a charge is like having a UAV in BF2. I don't see people use them enough.

Also you get assists for every motion mine detection resulting in a kill and it gives you loadddddddds of points. Do eet.

Screw this, I'm getting it for the PC and hope it's playable.

Do you guys use Steam to communicate? Will it be a problem if I download the game off EA Downloader (buying a key for EAD will cost me 50% ridiculous Euro Steam price) and use Steam voice chat or whatever you might be using while in-game, or is it only restricted to use with Steam games?

Or do you just use the in-game voip?

Also aggravating is assaults who don't drop ammo. Especially when you're an engineer marking targets with the tracer dart until you run out of darts and noone will resupply you.

It's very fickle. Sometimes you have to line it up perfectly on the target in order to spot. Sometimes it seems like you have to find a "sweet spot" on a tank to target it. I think it may have some kind of cooldown or something? I really don't know, but it's tough to get it to just go sometimes.

I have the most trouble with it when I've just spotted a tank and I see another vehicle and try to spot it as well. I'm hoping they releast a patch soon to work out some of the more pressing issues.

We use steam voice chat usually. I dont see any issues with you getting the game through EA Downloader.

at the risk of sounding like an ignorant twat, how do you use steam voice chat?

In a chat box / chat room there is a button at the top saying 'start voice chat' quite simply. Make sure you tweak your settings so you 'push to talk'.

It isn't great, however 'mumble' is freaking awesome. Used it today for the first time and it puts a slightly faded name list on the screen in the corner and the individuals name is highlighted when they are speaking. It's excellent.

http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

edit: I'm looking at possibly buying a mumble server for HL2.net, would anyone be interested in using it for our games? It's much faster than ventrilo or TS - but a bit more basic in functionality. Thoughts?

But what about when they fix VOIP? I like yelling at my squad...
