Official Bad Company 2 thread - no beta talk here!

In a chat box / chat room there is a button at the top saying 'start voice chat' quite simply. Make sure you tweak your settings so you 'push to talk'.

It isn't great, however 'mumble' is freaking awesome. Used it today for the first time and it puts a slightly faded name list on the screen in the corner and the individuals name is highlighted when they are speaking. It's excellent.

edit: I'm looking at possibly buying a mumble server for HL2.net, would anyone be interested in using it for our games? It's much faster than ventrilo or TS - but a bit more basic in functionality. Thoughts?

Mumble servers are fairly cheap through Gameservers (35 slots for $5/month.) What you might be able to do if you want is donate $5 through ClanPay and I can add it to my account.

You could just host one yourself? I wouldn't think you'd have many people on at once.

Played the conquest maps for the first time tonight. Funny how the pacing and the gameplay differs from rush. There is less focus and more running around. Still a lot of fun though. Some pretty maps too. I quite like the one with the hydro dam.

I very much prefer Conquest to Rush simply because Rush gets too much where if you can't capture the M-COMs, it ends up being pointless zerg from the attacking team or the defending team keeps getting boned, especially if the teams are unbalanced. At least in Conquest there's more circulation between bases, meaning a higher chance that people will be at base A rather than base B so base B can actually be captured. In Rush, it can be very tough to capture a base, as you're all probably aware.

I like rush better. You get a much better sense of teamwork. Of course, if that teamwork is non-existent, you run into the situation you described, but usually i just join a different server if my team is a bunch of idiots.

I'm up for anything, really.

Rush tends to suffer from mass sniper orgy the most, and it affects either team a lot more than it does in conquest. It's still fun though. Can't wait till the useless K/D obsessed snipers start learning how to play the class in a way that actually benefits the team, or changes classes entirely.

Snipers generally get really bad score/xp as well. I'm rank 24 right now and I never play recon. A friend of mine who snipes ONLY and has the same time played as me is rank 16. I just couldn't stand going a whole game and getting only 800-1500 score while not really helping the team one bit.

No offense to those that play recon, it's just they help out the least of all the classes. They are OK when they spam mortar strike tho.

What cracks me up sometimes is on that one Rush map with the blackhawk and the little island in the beginning, the attacking team will have 500000 snipers lined up on that mountain trying to kill a team that has INFINITE respawns. Slowly they get picked off and gradually drained of their tickets.

GTFO!!!! :imu:

Anyway, how the hell do I join the HL2.net server with this shoddy ass server browser?

Just spent a glorious 30+ minutes on Arica Harbor. Finished with 75 kills, 33 deaths, and 25,170 points with a shitload of stars and pins. The XM8 and AKS74 are godly.

Sort by browser name.

Played a few hours with Krynn, Tyguy and hool. Great teamwork guys. I got bored on the last map and quit. The constant M60 spawn killing annoyed the shit out of me. They need to nerf that thing.

I've been using the M1911 and while it is very nice, it is incredibly overpowered. I've been able to snipe with it.

Anybody here use a 5770? I've been itching to find a decently priced card with good performance, and from what Newegg reviews seem to say, it fits that mark quite well.

Damn, I might just upgrade just to play this game. It's so tempting.

How many browsers does BC2 have?

One for every player!

Yeah, the 1911 is pretty damn powerful. I wouldnt mind a slight decrease in its strength, but I dont think its that big an issue really. In fact, I think its kinda fun to have a pistol equalize the playing field when you're up against someone with a fully automatic rifle.

A 5770 will blow the socks off this game. Go for it if you've got the cash.

this game can be very cheap sometimes. i think just like MW2, if a team is getting crushed the autobalance will kick in and make the time for a set charge to go off decrease half the normal time till the explosive detonates. we were crushing these guys the entire time, then after 45 mins, at the last spot the box had 50% health then all of a sudden it said 'your team lost' we were all pissed, but then again it still is just a game and it was a fun time. also i did whipe out their entire team without dying which was fun

Are you sure the building didn't come crashing down? I don't think you can bring the buildings down in the last portion of the map though...

no there was no building around it. its the last part of the outdoor fall map.

That pistol has hit me from waaaaaaaaaay too far away... no clue why that is possible. The only people that I've had use it on me are Recon and... honestly... do they need more ways to kill me? I actually played as Recon today for a little bit. It was... pretty easy to say the least. Once I got the hang of the trajectory and velocity of the bullet I was pulling off kills left and right... the only thing that could stop me was another recon. If something gets close you can still knock them out with your rifle... or a pistol...

I think it's just way too easy for a sniper to pull off a shot and reload/rescope. Also maybe tone down the mortar strikes. Not like there's any shortage of explosions...

Also, 5770 will leave plenty of socks on if your processor isn't fast enough :/

something has been annoying the piss out of me and i'm wondering if it's happening to anyone else...typically the first time i try to mousewheel up from my grenade launcher to get my primary gun back, it goes right to the ammo box, as if i mousewheeled down. this sounds crazy but it happens the first time I try this on every map. i've done it as slow s possible just to make sure i'm not actually mousing down...

id love it if someone else noticed this.

I've noticed something similar. Whenever I am sprinting and try to change weapons it will act like my mousewheel is inverted. Even if I sprint, and then run normal, for the first 2-3 seconds after sprinting it will still be inverted.

This singleplayer is one of the worst games I've ever played so far. Do you really just follow BC around all day and shoot enemies when they pop up, or does it switch to the MP-style conquest mode anytime soon?

Isla Innocentes?

That map is Snipercon 2010.

I don't like that map at all. Not just because of the Sniping. It's not balanced at all.
The attackers always have the upper hand and win everytime i play that map.
They need to reduce the amount of vehicles they have or give some to the defenders too.

Which one is that again? Rush map right?

Yeah. It starts off with a small island with two crates overshadowed by the attackers hill that spawns Helicopters and allows Snipers to pick you off like fish in a bucket.

Yeah that first section is basically a freebie for the attackers. 40 snipers sit on the hill and one guy runs up and takes out the mcoms. The second one is much better for the defenders since you have the hill and the cover, but if you lose that you're basically screwed because the last point is just a matter of the attackers getting on the hill and killing everyone as they spawn. The thing that would make the first part better is some more cover that is worthwhile on that island. The final section needs a tank.

How far have you gotten? There are a few good missions, like one part where you have to snipe some guys in a village while using thunder as a cover for your shots.

in terms of single player, I thought this:

cod modern warfare > bad company 2 > cod modern warfare 2

In mp I certainly am racking up points faster now using the classes special item and spotting people like crazy. My main problem right now is I tend to be pretty gun ho running at the points which gets me killed a lot.

Me too, but it seems so rare for anyone to move toward the points aggressively that I feel I have to. It seems like people would rather lose than potentially have a poor kill/death ratio. I can't even get mine over 1.0 as it stands...

Yeah, same here. In most pub games I have a shitty k:d ratio, but by far the most points, because I actually play my role (usually as medic) and take points/set charges. Its not until I get a good squad that my k:d ratio improves while still getting points.

If the attackers get the blackhawk to the second set of crates they can literally tear the building one of them is in to the ground in 10 seconds flat with the minigun. I agree on the defenders needing vehicles.

As a soldier I love the M1911 in combination with either shotgun. The shotgun allows me strong close range combat, while the M1911 allows for slightly longer range combat. Also, using a shotgun also allows me to use C4 to blow up tanks. I love it. Plus I can still provide ammo to squad mates.

I also really like the medic now that I've got the medpacks, but I wish my defibs would unlock.

Edit: Is there a quick key for setting off C4?

When you play Recon out on the frontlines the M1911 is an indispensable weapon. Thing will save your life when you're out and about.

I hate 95% of all Recons. There is only one thing I like them for, and that is if you have them on your squad, and you are a soldier, you can be sure they will use a lot of your ammo packs (giving you points) because they never go anywhere.

I admit, I've had a few good team players as Recon who help me capture points etc, but it still annoys me because they could me something useful like a medic.

Yeah, most of the games I've played were the opposing force using nothing but Recon and not even worrying about the fact that we were steamrolling them and destroying all their stations. I was playing on hardcore with Pesmerga a few nights ago and we both ended up killing our entire Recon using pussy ass hiding in the back clumping together in a group cluster*ck team out of annoyance. Most of them ended up switching to another class. Felt good mang.

If you're gonna go Recon be useful and throw out detectors, assist in capping points, snipe on the frontline and support your squad ffs.

Recon can be a great support class if you put its strengths to use. Most people though just stay back and snipe. Something which is really starting to annoy the crap out of me. I hate it when i end up on a Squad filled with nothing but Snipers.
Servers should have the option to restrict this class to certain number. Having the majority of your team play as a Sniper is no fun at all.

I like playing frontline recon quite a bit. I use the 6 shot auto shotgun who's name I cant remember which can tear though people pretty quick at close range plus throwing the sensors into big fights gets you a ton of points quickly
