Parkour.

Ive wanted to do it for about a year.

Never have.

I think it's incredible but I doubt I'd ever be good at it.

Aww common, have some faith in yourselves. All it takes is hard work.

IF you've don'e a martial art, it actually really helps (and I'm a living example that it does, I got good at it much faster than anyone I know). My main tip is to constantly practice balance: Walking on rails, handstands. Get to know your body, be aware of the way you move at all times.

Watching that David Belle french documentary thing. Awesome.

I skateboard a LOT, and this actually reminds me of it. I bet I'd be really good at parkour, what with my improved balance, coordination, and leg muscles.

I love PK, I play around some occasionally with a friend. It's winter now so we only play around with rails indoors and stuff.. Just build some muscle and it's not that difficult. I think I'll get into it real seriously once spring is here.

David Belle is ****ing awesome, he's seriously fluid as hell.

This thread may have inspired a new hobby for me. I need to get in shape anyway.

Im going to go outside and try it, I think after a few weeks of trying and falling I would be able to do a few stunts

You probably would, but keep in mind that there are HUGE differences between Parkour and Skateboarding. For one, Parkour isn't about doing specific moves like in skateboard, it's about continuity and flow. It's about improvising and moving with speed. But I think skills you get in skateboarding such as balance, coordination and confidence (yes, confidence in knowing what your body can do is extremely important).

Oh i know how to land, and roll, They tought some of that stuff when I was in Karate for about 8 years.... Anyway I went outside and did some basic stuff like falling from trees then landing in a roll climbing the house and jumping rails. I HIGHLY recommend recomend that if you want to try this extreme activity thst you get the basics down first, as in rolling from a jump, Learning how to land a jump without hurting you'r self then try to do some basics. This is very fun I had a ball out there lol, It would probably be a lot easyer if there was not snow on the ground and trees

I saw this video about a week ago. Very impressing and motivating.

Yeh, I could hardley sit through the video without going outside and trying it

Hehe. I went for an intense run after watching the videos.

I would so break all my limbs when attempting something like this. Looks very coo, tho.

EDIT This David Belle guy must have been a monkey in one of his past lives.

No you would not, just start with the basics like im doing and then just do more and more everyday for about a hour. I can almost guarente that in a month you will be able to do some of it

Haha, due to this thread i finally went out on my own in my town. At first I had no idea what I'd manage or not, I've been pretty overweight but have lost a great deal and gained muscle with dancing and working out etc, in a situation like this you're not exactly sure what you can do in terms of acrobatics. At first I didn't even knew if I'd manage the tiniest wooden plank thingie, it's pretty rainy and slippery out here. But eventually I find myself vaulting and lunging over fences, stones even equal in my length.

Seriously, it ****ING OWNS! The amount of freedom you feel, it's undescribable.. Christ.. I mean it. I've always been one of those who always look up in the sky and daydream of being able to fly freely, this is probably the first time I've felt like that longing is being satisfied.

I was around a school mainly, a kindergarten playground. There were some teenagers in the school area, everyone here is a wannabe-rebel having weird happy hardcore parties or stuff like that and trashing grass with their motorbikes. It was really fun hearing some go "whoa" when I pulled some stuff off. :D

I'm gonna do this for the rest of my life. I mean ever since I saw the first vid it seemed cool, and I've been doing some halfassed stuff together with that aforementioned friend, but honestly nothing goes up to actually getting out there and going wild, just you and the night and the world.

I was pretty careful with the slipperyness, and of course the fact that I don't want to break myself in half.. Got some easy bruises from one vault that I slipped on wet grass right before jumping, but other than that I'm AOK :)

I think when you're out there you are careful with what you can or can't do and really don't attempt things that could cause harm unless, you're completely stupid. It's about babysteps.

Finally someone else helps me discribe how great it feels to do this. It makes you feel like you are on top of the world i got a nice cut on my finger when I tryed to jump this rail and hit a thorn bush when I landed. I will do this for the rest of my life. It is awsome.

I'm 14, Why might you ask this?

Statistical purposes.

And CrazyHarij, I totally see what you mean and I'm glad you've discovered it. In most places winter sucks for this kindof shit, but here it's sunny and warm outside so Imma go do some stuff later on.

I highly suggest balancing practice. I do handstands regularely.

Yeh no kiding winter sucks for this stuff, I slid like 50 feet down my driveway while trying to jump from a tree and roll when I hit the ground. DANG ICE!

I'm not near athletic, or brave enough. I'd kill myself in no time.

i'm not athletic enough, but im gunna try and gain a little muscel mass over the enxt year. I've never even climbed a fence or anything in my life, heh.

Parkour is also a great way of gaining muscel, and staminia. Just start by jumping outside rails and fences. then move on to the hardder stuff. Just a suggestion

yeah i probably should, but no fences, or rails, i live like a few miles from the nearest fence or rail =(.

I seriously doubt that. Unless you live in the middle of the rainforest.

no middle or rural michigan, suburb of grand rapids and it is woods, street houses woods

MAN, I wish it wasn't winter right now. Someone make sure I'm reminded of this when Spring time rolls around...

nah, there is a fence in a house but the people there would be like "ZoMg WTF BITCH !!" but i live in comctock park, and downtown comctock park is like one street.. literally... the HS is the only place i can think of with rails and its a few miles away. But i think we are straying from the point here =\.
and that is a really inspiring video as someone said, and i might just have to try some stuff this spring. i may even do some "working out" this winter who knows. I'm kind of tired of getting hit and made fun of all the time, heh

Yeh working out will only help you when you go to Parkour. Make sure you read and practice these safety precautions just by jumping off a bed or somthing. Here is the link

ty, though i doubt i will do any parkour anytime soon, i have a little ways (understatment lol) to go before i would feel very good about jumping off/jumping anything. and yes even a bed, i'm very scrawny, lol

I love jumping off stuff. Not really sure why though... guess I just have a lot of energy.
